      To be honest I think he looked good in high school due to the competition he faced. NC high school football is not really good to be honest compared to FL,CA, GA, or TX. On top of going to a weaker ACC may have made him look better. Not hating at all just what I think may have happened.

    Lot of different stories about what really happened. Think the one that makes the most sense is he was frustrated that Daniels was brought in. Saw how good Daniels could be and went to Smart and asked for a Guarantee he would start. Smart said he wouldn't do that, and he was advised by his QB coach to sit out. Irony is he probably would've had a good year, potentially great, but we'll never know.

Maybe he didn’t wanna be the next Justin Fields type situation at Georgia but who knows but Newman. I agree he should of definitely played because we all know when it comes to quarterbacks nothing is certain far as the draft status unless you a undisputed elite such as Lawrence,Fields,Jones etc. But he truly possibly killed his career when he left UGA because it open the door for other played to step in and take his possible draft spot

    I think Jamie Newman had a bad showing in the Senior Bowl that hurt him in the scouting evaluation. Sitting out during Covid 19 didn't hurt Jamarr Chase, Penei Sewell, or Micah Parson. All were top 12 picks and still wind up being first players selected in their positional groups. Because he didn't played at Georgia, Jamie Newman could only go to Wake Forest's pro day. it's a lot of things, but not being in tip top shape during pro days and showing a ton of rust by overthrowing wobbly passes at senior bowl hurt him so much in his draft evaluation. I'm not saying he probably needed to spend money on private qb guru to keep him in shape, but it would have helped. Instead he looked so unprepared in the draft process. I honestly don't blamed teams in passing him up because spending a draft pick on his so-so 2019 is not assuring for teams in that he can be a backup qb in NFL.

    • @brotherLee340
      @brotherLee340 3 роки тому

      The Above guys you named didn't have Huge Question marks tho. They were legit first rounders anyway. Jamie was different. The senior bowl hurt but I think he basically was out of sight and out of mind for most teams.

    • @ultrustic
      @ultrustic 3 роки тому

      @@brotherLee340 Not true. Newman was still in first round mock by season's end for some others. It's the post season evaluations that hurt him. He started slipping after Senior bowl.
      Heck, he was even ranked higher than Ian Book and Sam Ehlinger by Mel Kiper jr at his final QB ranking for the 2021 draft that was published the day before the draft. Those two guys still got drafted.
      Newman was definitely not forgotten. If he was forgotten, the dude would never get asked to be invited to Senior bowl. There were a lot of guys who played well in 2020 that should have been invited over opt out players like Newman. So being opt out didn't ruined Jamie's chances.

    He was never the same all the way back to that shoulder injury in 2019. I don't think the injury lingered. As a long time season ticket holder at wake forest I saw him lose his intensity and it was if he was playing to not get hurt. He began calling out his team mates on the side lines anytime something didn't go his way. Nothing was any longer his fault. I was honestly not surprised when he dropped out last season for Georgia, the competition was too much for him.

    I bought into the hype, expected him to be the missing link at UGA. Then there emerged from the UGA preseason stories that something wasn't fitting right, that his play was not meeting expectations, style fit wasn't there, whatever, in summary the pieces were not melding well with him at QB. I believe there was even scuttlebutt that he might be 3rd on the depth chart. In retrospect, he may have chosen poorly in his transfer choice of location. In the end, these rumors tainted his opt out choice, and you can bet the NFL was able to get to the bottom of the rumors - too many eyeballs in that camp. That said - Philly might work well for him, as Hurts is by no means a sure thing

    if your heart is in it... if you love the game, you will play regardless of circumstances, regardless of the situation. Opting out is not an option, its not even fathomable.
    What if the franchise needs one more win to make the playoffs. You need a scoring drive. You hit a few receivers and got near field goal... the next snap... Chase Young blind sides you, its a miracle you held on to the ball. But your shoulder popped outta place. A trainer needs to pop it back, you're feeling some excruciating pain starting up... your eyes water up, coach has an intense look, you're the man, the fans and teammates are trying to encourage you... one more good throw, thats all... you just going to opt out? Chase Young is unblockable, he's definitely going to mess your shit all up... you gonna leave everyone hanging? A billionaire invested in you...
    opt out?? huh?!?!?

    He just followed the wave of other athletes like Micah Parsons and Jamar Chase who opted out to protect their draft stock.
    I think a shady agent or handler got in his ear and told him he would be a first-round pick regardless of if he played or not and Jamie believed him.
    All of those mock drafts that had him going early were based on projections of him having a big season at Georgia, not because of anything he accomplished at Wake.
    Regardless, sad story all around.

    My take: Newman never was seen as a first rounder or top QB by actual NFL people. Analysts talk for views and try to make predictions, but look at all the star players that opted out this past season and still were at least picked, even some in the first round. If he was actually viewed as a first round talent he would have at least been picked. He still had a lot to prove this past season and avoided competition instead. Not a good look.
