I once opened an emergency exit at a drugstore at age 6. Since I couldn’t read yet, I thought it was just a regular door. I was horrified when the alarm went off. It sounded just like the third alarm in this video. My ears were very sensitive to the loud noise due to my autism. Never made that mistake again by opening an emergency door.
is it really not to code if the alarm doesn't sound? i would expect that it's fine as long as the door opens since i think the alarms are to prevent theft
it is, the door alarms are supposed to sound off if they're meant to be used as an emergency exit so the in-store staff know which door has been tampered with and/or exited through... therefore they can review the footage to see what happened prior to it sounding off.
@@aidenlui1 I’m still not convinced it’s a code issue though. It makes sense that a shopkeeper wants to prevent misuse etc, but that isn’t something that needs to be required by code. Rather, it’s something that the shopkeeper can choose to use. And I think the fact that it guides others to an exit is just a side effect, else they would be installed on all emergency exits.
System Fire 2.0 Door alarms that are tied to a fire alarm system will sound when there is an alarm in the building. Those Detex alarms are designed to go off by themselves.
Also emergency exit alarms are there to alert guide evacuees to the nearest exit in case of visual impairment or dense smoke not just deter shoplifters, dine and dashers, or snipe and sprinters.
I love the last 2 doors. Those tiny mechanical horns emit such a unique sound.
The last 2 doors that you tested, sounded sick!
All battery-operated smoke alarms from the 1970s and most battery smoke alarms from the early 1980s make that type of noise too. It's a cool sound.
One time I accidentally opened the emergency door at McDonald’s, and it was so loud, and the workers had to reset it with a key
That happened when I was at a McDonald’s once but I wasn’t the one that did it
Oof maybe you guys weee both there
@@seandowd5268 I doubt it
For some reason at the locations near me they always put it in the kids playground area. Which most kids would go through
That high pitch wee u wee u siren is so obnoxious and hurts my ears.
1:37 did those have mechanical horns in them?
fire security alert I not sure
Probably just dying batteries from sitting unused for a while.
They did, brass squealer horns
Radiotronics natgard
Very cool! I would love to see more of that!
SATX Railfanning Productions yes
Nice job, keep up the great work! 👍
I actually once opened an emergency exit at Blockbuster’s in Minneapolis, Minnesota once. Since I was young, I thought it was just an ordinary door.
@TBB747 Well at least you showed it didn’t go off

I knew that door worked!
I feel like the last ones had the Kobishi Squealer type horns!
love the sound of loud DC buzzers.
Aren't those kinds of exit alarms connected to the fire alarm system?
Loyalmoonie We do not know yet
No
No. In fact, they basically work the same way as smoke alarms.
They’re usually self contained, occasionally they set off a security system
No
Nice! Those things are LOUD!
I've opened an emergency exit before, and that 110 dB high-pitched we-u-we-u siren really hurts my ears. OUCH!
1:31
Sounds like a 70s smoke alarm made from GE.
I always knew that emergency exits are for emergency use only and not to open them unless there was an emergency.
This is hella unrelated, but what is the name of the alarm sound in 0:50 ? :D Anyways, cool vid!
It’s a telephone
is it really not to code if the alarm doesn't sound? i would expect that it's fine as long as the door opens since i think the alarms are to prevent theft
Nathan Adam it’s also used so others can find a useable exit
it is, the door alarms are supposed to sound off if they're meant to be used as an emergency exit so the in-store staff know which door has been tampered with and/or exited through... therefore they can review the footage to see what happened prior to it sounding off.
Actually I think the alarm is supposed to be turned on for emergency exits or fire exits to prevent non emergency use
The alarm is to discourage misuse, to prevent shoplifting and to lead the people trying to escape in a fire to the exit.

1:57 sounds like broken mechanical horn
Shouldn’t these set the fire alarm system off? Or is that only for some of them.
only some of them do
These will not set off the fire alarm system, however, they can be wired to give the panel indication.

Fire Alert It did happen to me when I pushed one as a little kid. They had an shg horn in it. The outside GMS also went off.
yeah I remember when I pushed one as a little kid the alarm went off I was so scared

Is there a point to exit alarms besides asset protection?
At 132 it sounds like a tornado siren, while at 146 it sounds like a fire alarm

That's weird how some of them have mechanical horns in them.
RSS Alarms that’s because they are connected to the fire alarm.

Well leaving the door alarms disarmed is not up to code and could allow customers to escape paying for merchandise.(if these were in a supermarket)
Also emergency exit alarms are there to alert guide evacuees to the nearest exit in case of visual impairment or dense smoke not just deter shoplifters, dine and dashers, or snipe and sprinters.

Nice!!!!
I saw one of them in public and someone open the door and everyone was going nuts
The alarms on the second set remind me of the old smoke detector horns
Fun fact, the first gen Pull station stopper cover had the same horn shown on the second set. It is a brass squealer horn.
I saw it
Cool!
why do doors have horns in theme
1:31 That doesn't sound right...
