Hi Huw... Great review and fix... I have the same chuck and jaws... Never had a problem with them to be honest ... I love mine and I'm sure that you will love yours too... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
Thanks Andy, You were the first person I saw use them and they spiked my interest then. I have seen a few others since and they all had the problem of slipping. If it hadn't slipped for me I wouldn't have drill the jaws. Take care my friend and speak soon. Cheers, Huw
Thanks Rod, I am impressed for such a small chuck but the dome jaws really need to be sold with the adjustment so they can grip properly and securely. Thanks for the B-day wishes, I had a great day. Happy New Year my friend and Semper Fi. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Lorrie. Happy New Year to you, Take care mate. Cheers, Huw

Hello Huw, A great tool for lathe work. Best wishes. A good choice. Thank you for the introduction and details. I always appreciate your ideas. I wish 2023 to bring health and happiness to you and your family. All the best. Cheers Huw
Nice looking chuck Huw. I liked the looks of it when I saw Andy using one and now I really like it. I bet it will come in real handy for you. Take care, Gary
Hi Gary, They will make one projedt I have much easier I'm hoping. Andy likes his as well. Take care my friend and Happy New Year. Speak soon, cheers, Huw
Thanks Steve, Hahaha I got socks for Christmas. Jane is much better but still signed of for another 2 weeks to make sure. HNY to you as well mate. Take care Steve. Cheers, Huw
Glad I found your video: you saved me quite a bit of money since now I'm not buying the SC2 nor the dome jaws. See, Teknatool listened to the complaints and milled their own dome jaws with a groove for better grip right at the factory. No modding needed. I'll buy the Nova Dome Jaws instead. Thanks!
Hello, Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I wouldn’t normally have bought this chuck but it was ideal for the job I wanted. Having to modify the jaws was disappointing but not difficult. Take care and thanks again. Cheers, Huw
Thanks Luie, Mike from MPart suggested the Old Timers and I couldn't remember it but found it. It is a great little chuck and will be great for what I want to use it for. Watch this space. Take care my friend and HNY to you and your family as well. Cheers, Huw
Hi Stuart, Thanks very much. This was a first time use as you saw but I believe they will serve me well in producing my entry level pens and also allow me to start turning finials. Take care my friend and a Happy New Year. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Alan, I had help in choosing this one and doing the adaptation so I try to pass on what I have learned from others. A very Happy New Year you as well Alan. Take care. Cheers, Huw
Thanks Williams, It is a really nice small chuck with some accessories as standard. Now the jaws have been drilled they work really well. Take care William and HNY. Cheers, Huw
Thanks Mark. I bought it for one specific reason which I hope will make a particular project a lot easier and quicker. I will stick with Axminster chucks for my normal turning and pens. Take care mate. Cheers, Huw
Good demo, Huw! Looks like that was an easy fix to otherwise great jaws. I hope you enjoy using it for many years to come! Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 😊 Phil
Thank you Phil. It was an easy fix for a problem that shouldn't exist in my mind. I'm hoping these will be perfect for what I intend to use them for. Thanks for the birthday wishes and others as well. Take care my friend and Happy New Year to you as well. Cheers, Huw
The chuck and jaws look great. Should be very handy and make some turning situations much easier. I never got a response from the pen company about wholesale numbers and pricing. I am going to order up a few though since they’ll be cheap enough at retail. Thanks for your thoughts on this little chuck.
Thanks Doug, It is a really nice chuck and will be perfect for the entry level pens I think. Pete mentioned Alibaba to me for bulk buying the pens. HNY Doug and take care. Cheers, Huw
Great tip Huw, thanks for sharing. Looks like a nice little chuck, may need to get one, or at least some dome jaws. Wonder if they fit on a Super Nova 2.... Wes @ Piedra Designs
Ive just got a sc2 chuck but I think I will be getting a set of those dome jaws I think Record should do ones for the sc3 and sc4 chucks too great tip too
They seem really good so far Colin. If you do get them you may want to consider drilling down the middle as it does improve the grip on the workpiece. Happy New Year mate. Take care Colin. Cheers, Huw
Yeah, it's an interesting little chuck. I've only used the dome jaws to hold metal mandrels so not experienced the grip issues. In fairness though I've used it far less than I thought I would. The chuck key is fine if you started with an SC3 and compared to the Nova chuck key, far more comfortable (in my opinion). All the best, Dave
Thanks Dave. I might use it to make a mandrel for the pen kits we bought using my carbide tools. I have no experience of RP Chucks or Nova Chucks before this one so I have no idea how other chuck keys feel as I normally use Axminster Chucks. Take care Dave. Cheers, Huw
Hello Huw, Gaak ! Now I've moved the dome+SC2 much higher on my Must Have list. Well, what did I expect ? I hope I will remember the drill trick ! BTW, tightening the scroll and then cinching down the jaws is in the Nova chuck manual. I don't remember if it's in the RP instructions. I guess you've been doing 4-jaws so long it has become a habit whose roots were lost in time eh ? Fun Fact, Nova also says to tighten the scroll after mounting the piece on the worm screw which pulls the screw (and piece) tightly onto the chuck. Thanks for sharing. Take care. -Mike
Hi Mike, More new toys??? I have to admit I didn't read the instructions for the assembly of the jaws onto the chuck. I just did the way I was taught more years ago than I care to remember. I prefer to mount the piece onto the worm screw before putting in the chuck but with the Axminster one I use it is the only way you can do it. This chuck is so small I don't think I will ever use the worm screw on it as it is quite long and I wouldn't put a big piece on such a small chuck. I really hope you and your family had a great Christmas and a very Happy New Year my friend. Take care Mike. Cheers, Huw
@@WoodenItBeNice We boys need our toys eh ? Lol ! worm screw? Friend Lisa tightened before putting on and wondered why it kept coming loose - gotta draw it up to the backside of the jaw. Sorta why using the tailstock to press tightly to the chuck when mounting to a mortise or tenon. Holidays? For sure ! 'Twere happy days !!
Sorry I'm late but I was turning a little bowl and forgot it was Thursday! Do these jaws give you more room for manoeuvre than pen jaws or is there another reason for using them? Hope Jane is feeling better now.
Hi Myk, No problem being late. These jaws allow to to get very close to them without ant concern on my part. Jane feeling a lot better thanks mate. Take care Myk and HNY. Cheers, Huw
Nice informative video Huw. Enjoyed watching this morning. Glad you’re feeling somewhat better and prayers that you and your wife make a full recovery soon. Have a great day and weekend my friend!
Thanks Randy, I do feel better but still feel and sound like I have a cold but coughing a lot less. This has been going on for nearly 3 months now and I getting bored with it. LOL. Jane is feeling a lot better but has been signed off work for another 2 weeks. I really like this small chuck and it will feature in future videos. Take care my friend and have a great weekend as well. Happy New year and Cheers, Huw
Good Day, You may like to have a look at Stuart Batty Videos on all tools I lurnt a lot from him & his farther, they maybe still on youtube, happy turning & make lots of shavings. Richard
Thanks Richard. I used carbides as it was just a test run. I have to admit I use carbides on spindle work, other than a SRG, because I need a lot more practice with my spindle gouges. Take care Richard and a Happy New Year. Cheers, Huw
Thanks Mick, I normally turn at 2000+ and can't remember why I was only turning at that speed. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers, Huw
