From your opposing stance on using magnesium in gardening I would like to see you challenge or even discuss with other professional gardeners, not just hackers, this topic. There are several videos supporting it's use and some of us with decades of experience have discovered, combined with consistent hydration, phenomenal results reversing or preventing blossom end rot..An experiment with that random pear shaped tomato that doesn't taste good? Supplement with some Epsom salts to the side of the container it's in...it's not randomly spreading it to your whole landscape grounds when in a container. You might reconsider and add some to your in ground tomato row to result in less yellowing of the leaves.
Some people add salt to raw fresh sliced tomatoes when they eat them. If the tomato grown has enough nutrients in the soil it's flavour doesn't need enhancing. Dehydrated powdered egg shells and banana peels, a teaspoon of each mixed together added to the planting hole then once a month as a top dressing on the soil mulch...this is my favorite one homegrown hack you could try. When pruning suckers of tomatoes, root them easily in water or in moist soil, either way, most will take, so you have exact clones of the parent plant to try this comparison on.

Great video! I've started apples from seed. I rinse the seeds, place them on a damp paper towel, put that in a zipper bag, and leave it in the fridge for a month or until I see growth. No, you might not get true to type or even edible apples, but what I got was a great pollinator for my nursery-purchased apple trees as well as a wonderful draw for all types of Bees. The blooms are amazing and they started when the tree was 4 years old. The bitter, little apples shrivel on the tree and then the cardinals and other wild birds eat them. I've planted several other apple seedlings around my yard to draw pollinators and feed wildlife.

I think more people should plant apples from seed, especially with known parentage. Skillcult is a great channel to watch for apple breeding/grafting/training/etc., and he sells seeds and scions as well. And if you end up with apples that aren't good you can always graft other varieties onto that tree.

Cool video. .. Can't believe Cultivated apple trees are better than home grown apple trees! Should be the same if thesameapple!.....Seen where the barks scraped off a branch exposing bare damp wood [right word?].., next a ball with soils wrapped around the exposed bare branch area soon roots are growing in the soil in a ball. Some ad showed a plastic ball which clips shut on a skinned branch. Perhaps a tennis ball or a ziploc bag with soil or any recepticle staying in the scraped area will suffice. like juice box nice size, or plastic recycling of many different kinds , perhaps search and see what 's the ad selling, Could be worth purchasing.

That bulb planter seems really useful if you have some sort of disabilty that would making digging the hole and filling it by hand difficult, or if you work in a garden centre and need to plant 2000 bulbs in a day so would benefit hugely from saving a few seconds per bulb.

    • @fredsilva7274
      @fredsilva7274 Рік тому +2

The fastest way to plant bulbs is to use a trowel. Push blade into the soil to the correct depth, tilt to a 45 degree angle, plant the bulb, remove trowel, then push soil down with the other hand. Once upon a time, I planted many 1000's of bulbs for a landscaper. Takes longer to use a bulb planter.

The plant protection hack is pretty close to a good way of transporting houseplants when moving house etc. If you wrap the plant and pot in a cone of fairly stiff paper you can pack a whole load of them in an open top box and they should be fine in the back of a moving van.

@@ColeSpolaric - probably one of the "light" ones that no one uses, lol!
Otherwise, those things are damn expensive! You would NOT use a tampon for anything so trivial!
Btw..I highly recommend using silicone menstrual cups. I've used one for a few years now, and let me tell you, they're WAY better than tampons!
While initially expensive, they last about 5-10 years, and don't dry you out like a tampon will.
There's also almost no risk of toxic shock syndrome, and I find them so much cleaner too!
They will also tend to hold a hell of a lot more, so unless you have a REALLY gusher of a day, lol..you can wear one all day, and just change it in the shower. Oh yeah...and you can wear a cup for twice as long as a tampon, no probs...(like up to 12hrs) unless you have the above issue of a heavy day or two, in which case, you just back it up with a pad or something.
Please consider trying a cup out, whatever brand you go with. (there's lots!)
I promise it'll change your life!
Pair it up with some period underwear (like Modi Bodi) and your period will almost become a non-event!
I've also found that since using these products and steering COMPLETELY away from synthetic throw-aways, that my cycle has become VERY short, like easily less than a week, (like 4-5 days) and cramping and such has been an absolute minimum!
Maybe with this in mind, that "hack" IS a good use for tampons, lol! They're honestly terrible things!

If the cactus is hairy then it's a pain to get the extra dirt off from it, so wrapping it with paper to keep its body clean while repotting is a good thing. Removing of the bud makes suckers grow from the base, which are many times more vigorous. often you will also get multiple shoots which you can separate and replant.

Sunflowers typically do not like being transplanted. I have done this successfully several times by watering them daily until they stopped drooping in the heat of the day. Another thing I have done successfully is after the wind broke the main stem, I saved them by wrapping a stint around them. The plants were not cut in half, but in each case were still connected by some pulp. Again, watering them daily until they no longer drooped in the heat of the day was how I knew they made it.

Well for pineapples, i bypass the jar of water, and just take it straight outdoors and pop it down almost anywhere, even temporarily in an existing pot plant. They are always happy to get along without much attention until im ready to give it some real ground to grow in.

I've done that type of graft before, but with two types of citrus, that were not successfully bud grafting. It worked well, but I had to cut a square off of each, not a whole rounded section, and the bud area was a lot harder to get off.

The plant you cept calling a peace lily I'm pretty sure is a "lucky bamboo" dracaena, there leaves look just like that, thin smooth shiny leaves coming directly of the long woody stem. Peace lily leaves aren't quite that shiny and each grow on their own long stems that reach out from a center point just above the soil level. Their leaves also have quite the valleying along there veins! It gets really dramatic as they get bigger! 😊

If you buy an apple from the store, it probably has already been chilled. Just plant the seed. However, if the apple is from an orchard or farmers market, it does need to be chilled for a month or more.

I have actually tried some of these before, like the pineapple one except I didnt do it quite how she did (I now have 9 pineapple plants, some from babies a storebought plant made, and some from actual pineapple crowns, one plant from a crown is almost 2 years old and still thriving through my unpredictable growing seasons here in Alabama). And I have tried the straw thing to repair a broken stem, but I taped around the straw to hold it close enough to the break to keep it sturdy, those two methods actually do work. I have learned a few ideas, such as "planting" a runner to make a new plant, didnt know you could do that.

To get the trunk to bend like that naturally, just make it uneven. Prop up one side to tilt the tree, after a year tilt it the other way. The trunk will always correct itself and grow directly upwards, causing the bend trunk.

Budding is like a pre preped seed gooes into an another plants steam. Graphting is with wedges or shaving and farmers tape it will become more like a parasite there are some cases of it becoming a diffrent item such as (orange and grapefruit). I know several graphers who get potatos and tomato plants together to have one crop that grows both.

When I went away for a unknown time I fill my kitchen sink up and put the plants in up under the pot lip. I knee this was a risk but they’ll would’ve died anyway February in Vermont. The Christmas cactus lived and the Ginger died. But after returning 3 months later and started watering the cactus the ginger quickly came up in the pot close to the cactus. I was shocked overall!

I'm glad to see that there were at least a few "legit" hacks, but the rest were just cringe worthy! However, watching you 2 react to these is the BEST part of these videos! :D DEFINITELY put a smile on my face this morning. :) When I first saw the "tampon" hack, I was expecting them to use it to RELEASE water into the soil, not absorb it! But, even if you used it to "water" with, there are WAY better solutions. I'm with you for that one. Waste of time and money for that "hack." However, using the hairpin for the spider plant works REALLY well. I used to use them all the time as mini "landscape staple" subs for my houseplant propagations. Although, now I'm missing my houseplants. :( Maybe someday I'll be able to get some again. At least I have an outdoor garden now! :D

What do you think about starting your seeds in sand? Ever try it. Watched a video and am trying it. Some seeds have sprouted already in a couple of days with heat mats but I am noticing the onion seeds and broccoli seem to very odorous in the wet sand. Still have them under a dome until they are a bit more completely sprouted but they are in my living room (small house) so hoping the smell isn’t going to be too bad till I transplant into pots with soil.

    For the tampon one:
If you feel you've overwatered, just put your plant on a towel for like 5 minutes and the excess will drain out onto something meant to clean up water. Tampons are disgustingly expensive and we shouldn't be wasting them on plant "hacks"

For everyone wondering why they wouldn't say "tampon", they're not being prudes. The problem is UA-cam. They've been on eveyones' asses for poo poo naughty words that might possibly upset "the children" or more specifically their idiot parents who left them alone with UA-cam, because apparently we're all supposed to be raising their kids for them while they make posts on Instagram about being the cool "wine/weed mom". Anyways, great video guys. I know I'm a year late, but better late than never.

Dang… gadgets and gizmos! When I grew up all we did was chose an area in the backyard for the garden, dug it up, pulled the weeds. Watered it, created rows, planted seeds and they grew. No soil amendments gadgets and accessories. Dig a hole, pop the seed in the ground. Wait for it, wait for it! 🥕 veggies!! Yay! But that doesn’t sell product at the big box store or get likes and views on social media. 🤪
