The fastest way to plant bulbs is to use a trowel. Push blade into the soil to the correct depth, tilt to a 45 degree angle, plant the bulb, remove trowel, then push soil down with the other hand. Once upon a time, I planted many 1000's of bulbs for a landscaper. Takes longer to use a bulb planter.

@@ColeSpolaric - probably one of the "light" ones that no one uses, lol! Otherwise, those things are damn expensive! You would NOT use a tampon for anything so trivial! Btw..I highly recommend using silicone menstrual cups. I've used one for a few years now, and let me tell you, they're WAY better than tampons! While initially expensive, they last about 5-10 years, and don't dry you out like a tampon will. There's also almost no risk of toxic shock syndrome, and I find them so much cleaner too! They will also tend to hold a hell of a lot more, so unless you have a REALLY gusher of a day, lol..you can wear one all day, and just change it in the shower. Oh yeah...and you can wear a cup for twice as long as a tampon, no probs...(like up to 12hrs) unless you have the above issue of a heavy day or two, in which case, you just back it up with a pad or something. Please consider trying a cup out, whatever brand you go with. (there's lots!) I promise it'll change your life! Pair it up with some period underwear (like Modi Bodi) and your period will almost become a non-event! I've also found that since using these products and steering COMPLETELY away from synthetic throw-aways, that my cycle has become VERY short, like easily less than a week, (like 4-5 days) and cramping and such has been an absolute minimum! Maybe with this in mind, that "hack" IS a good use for tampons, lol! They're honestly terrible things!
@@TheMurlocKeeper love this advice! I’ve been using a cup for years, but have been using them with pantyliners/pads as a “just in case” measure - I have adhd and can sometimes get caught out if I forget my cup 🤦🏽♀️ Never thought to use them with period underwear instead! Way friendlier to the environment AND the bank balance!
I just like how the replies go to feminine hygiene products. Totally reminds me the conversation with friends ends up with "what were we talking at the beginning?"
@@mollusc3125 sounds like you need some of those panties that have built-in soaking abilities. I've always wanted to try them for light days, but then I've not had period for several years now (thank you, iud!)
lol lemons and roses would never take bloody hell who would make a video like that. The moss pole one didn't even have nodes n the ends of those leaves, that plant would be dead in a day or two. I have grown apples from seed but came nothing to what the parent was. grafting is the only way for most stone fruit. This video deserved a roast. and you did an excellent job. Great video guys
The concept of using stuff around your home for hacks would be interesting, if it weren't done by a content farm that cares only for how much money they can make (not even if what they're suggesting is fake), even to the extent of putting people in danger.
*I only discovered your channel this year, my dear friend KEVIN from EPIC GARDENING, but it is by far one of the best gardening channels out there! You have definitely rekindled the flames many people for a return to the ground, please don't stop gardening, keep up the content, bravooo, GO GO GOOOO*
As someone with a plant and soil sciences degree, there are so many things that SOUND like a good idea when you ignore all the other facts of biology lol
I know that soil science is lacking in most garden conversations. There is a woman who was a gardener at Callaway Gardens who gave in depth info about a tea from decaying roots and many benefits of rotting plants on SIDE STEP ADVENTURES of the Old Byrd Farm vlog.
if you have money to waste tampons you can also use the money can also be used to feed starving kids or cancer research. There's no limited supply of tampons.
@based memer - You are dead right! I did a lot of research on this a few years ago, and it was an eye opener! Cancer cures have been a thing for literally DECADES...but even though there's a few ways to go about it, they're all dirt cheap, very effective, with ingredients that anyone can afford...and there's no side effects to contend with. Of COURSE it's going to be covered up, lol! Cancer is a VERY profitable business! This is why I NEVER EVER give to any sort of "cancer charity". It's one of the biggest scams on the planet...and I will not be part of it.
Thanks for an insanely funny video and the link for Jacques. I'm celebrating that the Texas electrical grid did not collapse this week after our freezing rain. Some of us have PTSD from last February. This year even my lettuce (covered) survived. Mostly I'm focusing on a cutting garden this year, but my priority always is improving the soil. Jacques, as a geologist, will know the term caliche. I'm doing no dig and adding lots of compost to existing caliche. I follow you because you are soil guys at heart.
Omg these two look and talk almost exactly like my eldest brother and his hubby… they’re such a fun dynamic duo and I could easily watch hours of them roasting “plant hack” videos together!🤣💗👍
Just found your channel today! Love how this "debunking" series is still going - Ann Reardon for cooking and you two (Kevin & Jacques) for gardening 💪 Keep it up! The internet needs wisdom from people like you to stop misinformation and wasted energy 🙇
I use the hairpin tip on filling out my pothos. I wind a vine in the top of the pot, secure it with a hairpin, and when the roots are established, cut it away from the main plant. I then have a new plant to fill in the top without disturbing the soil.
There's always the old shoe box and grow lights in your closet... I won't say WHAT grows really well in those conditions, but I'm sure it applies to a variety of plants. As far as the friend thing goes, depending on WHAT you grow, the first solution could also be the second solution.
Aww...I'll talk to you about plants if you want? I'm nowhere near a teenager anymore, lol, but I have LOTS of plants! Most of them are in pots, because the soil is so poor where I am, but I'll happily share my knowledge with anyone who is willing to give things a go. :) UA-cam doesn't seem to have "discussions" page anymore for regular people. Don't know when THAT disappeared! Makes it hard to connect with people outside these sort of comments. If you actually get to seeing this and are interested, maybe I'll set up a Discord channel to use, or something. You use, Discord, right? It's wonderful! We have the technology, we just have to figure out how to use it. :P In the meantime, I'll have to keep an eye out for replies and hope I see it. :P Apologies for any delays that might occur. I'll do my best. :)
It’s really not a bad idea to find an older person that can show you, or you can hang out to those people that have the same passion with you or things your inclination. Connect with someone you trust 🙂
OMG! I've done the straw splint thing, only not with a straw. In high school, one of my mother's pencil cactus fractured a large branch. It was leaking the white sap like it was bleeding, so I treated it like a wound. I found two pencils, secured them above and below the break with tape, and covered it to keep insects out. I had no clue if it would work, but surprisingly it did. Apparently enough veins? (i forget the term for plant transportation systems) left intact at the break site that the branch mended.
I laughed until I cried! Between the witty banter between the 2 of you, the big head filters and the actual video you are 'reviewing' I was hysterical. My husband actually checked on me to see what was going on. I love when you do these videos. Keep up the good work guys!
The plant with the sponge rubber thing you said looked fake and shiny might be a type grape ivy 😄 The newest leaves are shinier and as they age it gets pretty normal looking. Very fast growing and beautiful!
I love epic gardening. I am making bagels right now they are all in the oven😊. So I am listening to you and making my seed list from Gurney's and Baker Creek catalogs. It's a beautiful day you guys🌻🤗
The tampon tip to prevent over-watering is hilarious. I do use the wrap the paper around the plant for repotting tip, but only when I'm repotting cacti. If the cactus is hairy then it's a pain to get the extra dirt off from it, so wrapping it with paper to keep its body clean while repotting is a good thing. It's also good a tip when adding plants into a terrarium that has a narrow opening.
Omg, the commentary here is amazing. I had just an awful day today, and this really did the trick to put a smile on my face and get me giggling and feeling better again. Thanks guys. 💚
So the pineapple thing gives a much faster crop if you cut the crown down the middle and remove the bud, then plant each half lying flat. Removing of the bud makes suckers grow from the base, which are many times more vigorous. often you will also get multiple shoots which you can separate and replant.
You don’t need to leave spider babies on the runner to grow them. They can be cut off & just planted in cell packs in soilless mix , mist them occasionally. But they’ll root just fine on their own
I want straight to the hairpin one- I use that trick with my pothos. You can coil the long runners and pin them so they're touching the potting soil and they will keep rooting. Fun!
Sunflowers typically do not like being transplanted. I have done this successfully several times by watering them daily until they stopped drooping in the heat of the day. Another thing I have done successfully is after the wind broke the main stem, I saved them by wrapping a stint around them. The plants were not cut in half, but in each case were still connected by some pulp. Again, watering them daily until they no longer drooped in the heat of the day was how I knew they made it.
I love your videos! I will say that the bulb planter could be useful for people who don’t have much stamina and strength in their hands, or much reach to the garden, for them to be able to dig holes for seedlings and replace the dirt. 😊
The process that the apple went through is stratification not veneralization. Veneralization signals a plant to flower and stratification signals a seed to germinate.
Well for pineapples, i bypass the jar of water, and just take it straight outdoors and pop it down almost anywhere, even temporarily in an existing pot plant. They are always happy to get along without much attention until im ready to give it some real ground to grow in.
I've done that type of graft before, but with two types of citrus, that were not successfully bud grafting. It worked well, but I had to cut a square off of each, not a whole rounded section, and the bud area was a lot harder to get off.
The plant you cept calling a peace lily I'm pretty sure is a "lucky bamboo" dracaena, there leaves look just like that, thin smooth shiny leaves coming directly of the long woody stem. Peace lily leaves aren't quite that shiny and each grow on their own long stems that reach out from a center point just above the soil level. Their leaves also have quite the valleying along there veins! It gets really dramatic as they get bigger! 😊
I did like the newspaper to keep the plant clean bc I don't have a lot of room to work with esp once I move, or in the winter, and it's just easier to prevent a mess than to clean it up
If you buy an apple from the store, it probably has already been chilled. Just plant the seed. However, if the apple is from an orchard or farmers market, it does need to be chilled for a month or more.
I have actually tried some of these before, like the pineapple one except I didnt do it quite how she did (I now have 9 pineapple plants, some from babies a storebought plant made, and some from actual pineapple crowns, one plant from a crown is almost 2 years old and still thriving through my unpredictable growing seasons here in Alabama). And I have tried the straw thing to repair a broken stem, but I taped around the straw to hold it close enough to the break to keep it sturdy, those two methods actually do work. I have learned a few ideas, such as "planting" a runner to make a new plant, didnt know you could do that.
To get the trunk to bend like that naturally, just make it uneven. Prop up one side to tilt the tree, after a year tilt it the other way. The trunk will always correct itself and grow directly upwards, causing the bend trunk.
This was so great! I’m sick and can’t be in my garden so here I am watching UA-cam in bed in August and not only did I get a gardening fix but a good laugh with a bonus of the roast of a channel that my 8 year old daughter forces me to watch on occasion but thoroughly annoys me. Thank you so much! I needed this! 😂. Please roast them again 🙏🏻!
Cold stratification works really well with fruit tree seeds from what I can tell I started my own peach sapling thanks to a video on UA-cam on how to speed up the process had a sprout in 2 weeks rather than months. (I'm still rather new to gardening it's been a really fun side hobby) 🌱
Budding is like a pre preped seed gooes into an another plants steam. Graphting is with wedges or shaving and farmers tape it will become more like a parasite there are some cases of it becoming a diffrent item such as (orange and grapefruit). I know several graphers who get potatos and tomato plants together to have one crop that grows both.
For the hack with the foam rubber and ivy thing, you weren't sure what she was putting it in...I believe it's a mold for cheese making, that you'd use for like a ricotta for example. Definitely still not a common house hold item.
Though you may not get what you expect from grocery stores when it comes to apples it feels so good to grow a tree from seed especially one that can produce food. They don't have to look good they just gotta be edible for me. I currently have 3 apple trees
Great comedy reel! And great tips. When I went away for a unknown time I fill my kitchen sink up and put the plants in up under the pot lip. I knee this was a risk but they’ll would’ve died anyway February in Vermont. The Christmas cactus lived and the Ginger died. But after returning 3 months later and started watering the cactus the ginger quickly came up in the pot close to the cactus. I was shocked overall!
I'm glad to see that there were at least a few "legit" hacks, but the rest were just cringe worthy! However, watching you 2 react to these is the BEST part of these videos! :D DEFINITELY put a smile on my face this morning. :) When I first saw the "tampon" hack, I was expecting them to use it to RELEASE water into the soil, not absorb it! But, even if you used it to "water" with, there are WAY better solutions. I'm with you for that one. Waste of time and money for that "hack." However, using the hairpin for the spider plant works REALLY well. I used to use them all the time as mini "landscape staple" subs for my houseplant propagations. Although, now I'm missing my houseplants. :( Maybe someday I'll be able to get some again. At least I have an outdoor garden now! :D
Yes, I purchased a pack of hair pins from the Dollar Tree and love using them for plants than I'm propagating. They are especially great for string of hearts.
I didn't see her punch a breather hole in the bottle at 9:19 so the vacuum in the bottle will keep it from continuously flowing. I haven't tried it but seems to me that it will drip too slow. Perhaps if the Qtip was touching the soil, it will work.
What do you think about starting your seeds in sand? Ever try it. Watched a video and am trying it. Some seeds have sprouted already in a couple of days with heat mats but I am noticing the onion seeds and broccoli seem to very odorous in the wet sand. Still have them under a dome until they are a bit more completely sprouted but they are in my living room (small house) so hoping the smell isn’t going to be too bad till I transplant into pots with soil.
Sooo the plant she is propagating around 6:25 is an actual plant, even though it looks a bit fake. It's a Cissus alata, same as in the background of the melon hack 🙂
I love when you roast these things. I had a Mango seed drying out on the window sill when you mentioned in a podcast episode that you had debunked "that fast motion guy" with all the tips and how the Mango thing isn't true. Womp-a-dee womp womp. So what should I do with the Mango seed now? Zone 6a/b (right on the border). Love your vids and podcast, so incredibly helpful and I'm happy that gardening and sharing the wealth of knowledge and experience in gardening has become such a plentiful part of your life!
For the tampon one: If you feel you've overwatered, just put your plant on a towel for like 5 minutes and the excess will drain out onto something meant to clean up water. Tampons are disgustingly expensive and we shouldn't be wasting them on plant "hacks"
This was actually a good idea. So many people making videos showcasing "hacks" that are actually unhealthy alternatives. Ya might be able to make a career out of correcting those hacks for a more healthier solution
For everyone wondering why they wouldn't say "tampon", they're not being prudes. The problem is UA-cam. They've been on eveyones' asses for poo poo naughty words that might possibly upset "the children" or more specifically their idiot parents who left them alone with UA-cam, because apparently we're all supposed to be raising their kids for them while they make posts on Instagram about being the cool "wine/weed mom". Anyways, great video guys. I know I'm a year late, but better late than never.
I actually just take two sticks/twigs and use that as a splint and wrap it with a piece of twine a few times.... works great. saved a lot of broken plant stems that way in my veggie garden. could probably use popcicle sticks but honestly i literally just pick up twigs off the ground ha ha
This was hilarious. The added effects were great, and you 2 handling the "personal hygiene hack definitely got me laughing, almost as much as the ridiculousness of the hack.
Dang… gadgets and gizmos! When I grew up all we did was chose an area in the backyard for the garden, dug it up, pulled the weeds. Watered it, created rows, planted seeds and they grew. No soil amendments gadgets and accessories. Dig a hole, pop the seed in the ground. Wait for it, wait for it! 🥕 veggies!! Yay! But that doesn’t sell product at the big box store or get likes and views on social media. 🤪
That idea of wrapping paper around a plant, is only really useful if your dealing with succulents and cacti, or something that has a lot of fine thorns.
I tried growing trees from seeds. I had a clementin tree which lived for more than 2 years, and reachd almost 2 inches in height, my apple trees died in the second summer, and while I always see strong pine tree seedlings in the forest when I tried it those also died in the second year, but I have a three year old maple tree from seed.

Oh yeah...and you can wear a cup for twice as long as a tampon, no probs...(like up to 12hrs) unless you have the above issue of a heavy day or two, in which case, you just back it up with a pad or something.
Please consider trying a cup out, whatever brand you go with. (there's lots!)
I promise it'll change your life!
Hahaha the Simplify Gardening ROAST!
The concept of using stuff around your home for hacks would be interesting, if it weren't done by a content farm that cares only for how much money they can make (not even if what they're suggesting is fake), even to the extent of putting people in danger.
I know! I saw the lemon and rose and thought "WRONG ROOTSTOCK!" I mean you can combine quince and pear, but citrus and roses? BUWAHAHA!

You have definitely rekindled the flames many people for a return to the ground, please don't stop gardening, keep up the content, bravooo, GO GO GOOOO*
Means so much to hear this!
@@epicgardeningit’s Eric gardening ugh 😒
As someone with a plant and soil sciences degree, there are so many things that SOUND like a good idea when you ignore all the other facts of biology lol
I know that soil science is lacking in most garden conversations. There is a woman who was a gardener at Callaway Gardens who gave in depth info about a tea from decaying roots and many benefits of rotting plants on SIDE STEP ADVENTURES of the Old Byrd Farm vlog.
The tampon thing. Gurl, if you have the $ to waste tampons, then buy and donate them to women's shelters and food banks.
No kidding right
if you have money to waste tampons you can also use the money can also be used to feed starving kids or cancer research. There's no limited supply of tampons.
@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme many people don’t have access to them/can’t afford them and you can prevent some cancers by eating healthier
It's one of the biggest scams on the planet...and I will not be part of it.
are tampons really that expensive? i use pads but even the tampons here are not so expensive that I would worry about wasting it.
You two are hilarious! Love the way you debunk these ridiculous ‘hacks’.
Omg these two look and talk almost exactly like my eldest brother and his hubby… they’re such a fun dynamic duo and I could easily watch hours of them roasting “plant hack” videos together!🤣💗👍
Just found your channel today!
Love how this "debunking" series is still going - Ann Reardon for cooking and you two (Kevin & Jacques) for gardening 💪
Keep it up!
I love this duo, AS A YOUNG TEEN IM INTERNALLY SCREAMING, i wish I had friends who liked gardening or even a garden lol
Find some!!!
UA-cam doesn't seem to have "discussions" page anymore for regular people.
In the meantime, I'll have to keep an eye out for replies and hope I see it. :P
Apologies for any delays that might occur. I'll do my best. :)
lol sameeee
It’s really not a bad idea to find an older person that can show you, or you can hang out to those people that have the same passion with you or things your inclination. Connect with someone you trust 🙂
Jacques dying laughing for half of the video is a vibe 🌱 one of my fav videos!
Thanks for the chuckles. I love these "hack" debunking/roasting videos. After a crappy week of heartbreak and going sober, I really needed this.
at 6:35 I think thats an Orchid Pot, I have Vanilla growing in one and it looks very similar
The only thing I have to say is.. the little shovel is good for working with succulents and small potting
I laughed until I cried! Between the witty banter between the 2 of you, the big head filters and the actual video you are 'reviewing' I was hysterical. My husband actually checked on me to see what was going on. I love when you do these videos. Keep up the good work guys!
Always down to earth and reasonable - even when doing a roast. I appreciate this guy!
Send me one!
But they’ll root just fine on their own
Mesh around the Mosh! Sounds like a metal music festival version of ring around the rosie hahaha
Well you both made my day. 😂. Now don’t you wonder how many people will try some of these?
The process that the apple went through is stratification not veneralization. Veneralization signals a plant to flower and stratification signals a seed to germinate.
These guys are super cute and fun to watch separately. When you put them together, it's like perfection!
That’s the best thing about gardening! There’s so many creative ways to do something that seem absurd to others 😂
ahaha loved this. I’m heading out to my local garden centre, hoping to source some tampons to help with that pesky issue of over watering 😂
I did like the newspaper to keep the plant clean bc I don't have a lot of room to work with esp once I move, or in the winter, and it's just easier to prevent a mess than to clean it up
But I'm also rickety and sickly and lazy lmao
If you buy an apple from the store, it probably has already been chilled. Just plant the seed. However, if the apple is from an orchard or farmers market, it does need to be chilled for a month or more.
I was eating an apple a few weeks ago, and there were 2 seeds sprouted inside the apple. I put them in soil, and a tree started growing.
The mini-grate is used for planting in hydroponics in Australia.
I liked the last hack as well with the eegg cartom. great for soqcing seeds.
8:47 this plant asked for help to get away from 5 minute crafts.
I don't know anything about planting, but this was entertaining none the less
Cold stratification works really well with fruit tree seeds from what I can tell I started my own peach sapling thanks to a video on UA-cam on how to speed up the process had a sprout in 2 weeks rather than months.
(I'm still rather new to gardening it's been a really fun side hobby) 🌱
I love how you guys react, make more videos like this!
5 Minute Crafts is why I even know about Epic Gardening! Back to roots!
These are just hilarious. I don't even know how people think of this crap!
As someone who has grown apples from seeds, you do need cold stratification in most cases, but Ive gotton seeds to sprout without it.
I’ve been the newspaper trick around the plant before - but for cacti. Works well for that!
Wotally what we thought too!
Yes, I purchased a pack of hair pins from the Dollar Tree and love using them for plants than I'm propagating. They are especially great for string of hearts.
I'm so early! I love these vids, I'm happy you got Jacques in on it!
He had a blast!
I didn't see her punch a breather hole in the bottle at 9:19 so the vacuum in the bottle will keep it from continuously flowing. I haven't tried it but seems to me that it will drip too slow. Perhaps if the Qtip was touching the soil, it will work.
I’ve done the bobby-pin thing. It works well but don’t push too hard or you might snap it.
Yeah...I'll keep both my Dracaena's straight, thanks 😋 Winding it around something can look nice, but I guess I prefer a more natural look
I love your channel. I just found you last week as I'm starting my first vegetable garden. I've learned so much already.
That plant you thought was fake (around 6:30) is an oak leaf ivy. I have one and it's very glossy and does kind of look fake.
OMG! This made my Saturday morning ☺️
So glad!
For the tampon one:
If you feel you've overwatered, just put your plant on a towel for like 5 minutes and the excess will drain out onto something meant to clean up water. Tampons are disgustingly expensive and we shouldn't be wasting them on plant "hacks"
"-mesh, around the mosh-" 😂😂😂
Why were you scared to say tampon? 😂 le sponge 🧽
This was hilarious. The added effects were great, and you 2 handling the "personal hygiene hack definitely got me laughing, almost as much as the ridiculousness of the hack.
Your faces were priceless 😂😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yeah to many of those videos out there.
If the soil enter between the leave it might for. So the come bottle is good
some SAY that the shaped fruits are for refrigerator space but who knows really
Dang… gadgets and gizmos! When I grew up all we did was chose an area in the backyard for the garden, dug it up, pulled the weeds. Watered it, created rows, planted seeds and they grew. No soil amendments gadgets and accessories. Dig a hole, pop the seed in the ground. Wait for it, wait for it! 🥕 veggies!! Yay! But that doesn’t sell product at the big box store or get likes and views on social media. 🤪
When this guy uploads with the garden hermit it make me happy he should upload more on his Chanel
He's back in the garden more lately so he will be!
I love how I was watching this and a tampon commercial came up in the middle of your video 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the laugh gentlemen ☺️
I’m actually immediately applying the straw fix right now.
They’ll use mesh around the mosh to keep it in place
Ok, that was hilarious! The two of you make a great roast team!
Got to be the funniest thing I’ve watched in awhile! 😂 thank you Kevin and Jaque! 💚🪴
The water in the bottle will create a vacuum and slow the dropping action. This is usually done under the soil tho.
