  • This is an Uta Hagen Acting Exercise from Step 1 on THE ACTOR’S WAY, a 10-lesson online acting course from Neuro Acting. The entire course is yours at www.neuroactin...
    IN THIS VIDEO:
You’ll learn a way to act truthfully, using a simple but profound Uta Hagen exercise.
    THE COURSE IS FREE
The entire course is free as a gift to new actors, but the 70-page course book (price: GBP£30/USD$33) needs to be purchased from www.neuroactin.... This will also put you on the course platform so that you can access all the course modules and audio downloads and other educational material.
    WHAT IS THE ACTOR’S WAY?
A progressive holistic pathway to greater acting packed with training along the way. Like hanging out in the office of your high school drama teacher, you’ll get both my graduate acting training knowledge, my forty years’ industry experience and the latest tricks from neuroscience that I teach my students to help you do your auditions, your work and your life better.
The Actor’s Way is not a quick fix. It is a pathway to help you become the artist you’ve always wanted to be. You’ll act better and you’ll live better. You’ll be more confident, more creative, more expressive, and above all, more at peace and more comfortable in your own skin, living as an artist in a chaotic (and often unappreciative) world.
I know what it’s like so I hope you find it useful - and break a leg!

I'd suggest practicing it for half an hour repeatedly, and then if possible present it for a partner, and they should watch you and follow along in the workbook, making mental notes about whether you were anticipating certain actions, performing certain actions or just 'doing' them, truthfully, without any need to perform or be applauded as interesting. The more you practice this, the more you get into the habit of allowing the mind to think of all acting as spontaneous, that you have no idea what's going to happen next, you're just going with the flow. It's a very simple but very useful exercise in your future work.
