  • Although the astronauts had the lunar surface closeup stereoscopic camera (“Kodak”) it was used only to take close-up stereo images of the lunar soil and rocks from distance about 20 sm, the camera was equipped with an integral flash. So to take 3D images of objects or landscape without a special 3D camera they had to use their regular 2D 70mm “Hasselblad” to shoot two images sequentially, moving the camera horizontally, a short distance (usually one step) between shots (a sequential method). And of course there are many occasional stereo pairs made not intentionally, just shots taken with a shift.
Although there are still a lot of misalignments in the images we got a great opportunity to see what the Apollo crew members had seen on the Moon,
thanks to the experts who created these stunning anaglyph pictures:
Yuri Krasilnikov, Erwin D’Hoore, John Kaufmann, Eric van Meijgaarden, Eric Nelson, Patrick Vantuyn, Jim Scotty, Eric Jones.
The photos are available on the ALSJ photo archive

Music theme - “Interstellar” Soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.
