  • Here, Kevin Goat shows us how to use a traditional move in Wing Chun called the Bong Sao for self-defense. Wing Chun, in particular, the wooden dummy or Mook Jong, is considered a traditional martial art. However, if you are training purposefully, there are tons of applications of the wooden dummy into practical self-defense methods. Here, Kevin Goat shows us how to use a traditional move in Wing Chun called the Bong Sao for self-defense.

    Your lack of footwork in stepping to the blind side as you execute the bong sau means you rely on size as you fight head-on. Stepping to the blind side simultaneously will give you a huge advantage, especially if your opponent is bigger

    Extremely well dissected and rationally explained! I've truly enjoyed the video. This man is a treasure trove of martial knowledge! Does he have an online course teaching Wing Chun, as he does about Self Defence?

      I see. I understand you, "The 8th Immortal." Thanks for your message. I'm really clueless on Wing Chun.

    3:20 felt a lot like a regular block. I use this (resort to this) a lot when I get caught with my hands low. Practicing the elbow roll along with the bong sao, like you're doing, is also a very good thing to practice and we incorporate that into our hubud. Great video. Thanks.

    Some boxers like myself have very fast hands!!Might be effective against slower boxers.Amazing how many people forget all these combative systems an styles are Only!Combat effective!When used with combinations.Thats why any decent boxer can be hard to deal with.Only idiot boxers an the unskilled throw single punches!!A good boxer can throw hard an fast 4-6 punch combo's an switch a few combo's while punching!No style or system should be used with isolation techniques.As former great MMA fighter Ken Smamrock used to say in his prime"It's like a chessboard and I am always focused 4 or 5 moves ahead.The scary ones are people who know boxing an wrestling!But a open mind is essential to progress an yes I have narrow minded 3rd an 4th degree blackbelts with very unrealistic ideas on real time streetfighting!Funny when your honest!Dumb idiots want to believe their B.S!Always plenty people who are in love with their own 💩!Kung fu thai boxing silat wrestling an judo background an filipino 🔪 Arts I can fight!LOW tolerance for IGNORANCE!

    So we should take hits from the bong?

    • @The8thImmortal
      @The8thImmortal 29 днів тому

      No. Bong Sao is an "emergency" hand. It's a block. He says it isn't, but it is. Remember this Wing Chun idiom...Bong Sao never stays. Tan Sao never stays. This basically means don't leave either one out there for too long as they can/should transition from one to the other. It's what he's trying to demonstrate but his form is terrible.

  • @JimmyWest186
    @JimmyWest186 18 днів тому

    So I'm starting to think that wing Chun may not be effective when not doing demonstrations or on the dummy. In that both the dummy and the "opponent" are stationary and the fight is not dynamic and changing. It looks good but I'm not sure of it's real fight application.
    The reason for my argument is that BKB has been around for almost a decade. Why have there not been any wing Chun practioners entering these bouts to showcase its superiority as a fighting system? It would seem like this would be the environment they would clean up in. No takedowns, no kicking, strictly hands.
    Tell me I'm wrong!

    does it actually work against an Aggressive trained boxer trying to hit you, because that's not what has been demonstrated here

    • @texastoast5202
      @texastoast5202 27 днів тому

      Or, a non-stationary object, ie- an actual opponent moving around because anything is easy to use on something that stands still. Just go look at a fight on UA-cam. If an aggressor comes at you and you punch him or do some of this you’re teaching, after that punch, you’re gonna get intermingled and the speed is gonna be 20 times faster than you have demonstrated! All I’m saying!

    Bong Sao IS A BLOCK. It is not just a "transitional" move. The 3 seeds of Wing Chun = Bong, Fook and Tan. They can easily "transition" from one to another in any order. Also, your Bong is done wrong. @0:16 The angle of the Bong is incorrect and there is no "forward energy" detected at all. That would be the reason he starts "crushing this". I understand it's a hypothetical, therefore you "allowed" your Bong to collapse. But a proper Bong did not exist in the first place. In addition, when you're playing the dummy and you demonstrate a Bong to Tan transition, you're doing it wrong. @ 1:24 - @1:28 When transitioning from Bong to Tan you should not loose contact with the dummy. @ 1:27 Notice, as you are transitioning from the Bong your arm looses contact with the Jung. Then when going into the Tan you resume contact with the Jung @1:28. That is not good technique. The whole idea of the Jung is to practice forward energy, maintaining contact, distance awareness, technique, Fan Sao, etc. Take the elements of Dan Chi Sao and Chi Sao and apply them to the Jung. Your "opponent" isn't as tall as you.@0:34 Your Bong does not need to be so high. Bad practice. Actually, your opponents Bong would need to be that high against an opponent of your height. Your Tan's angle is off as well @0:30, @0:43, @2:42 - @3:03. Throughout that whole section your elbow is all over the place. What happened to the IMMOVABLE ELBOW principle? That is taught in the first form. Notice when your opponent throws a punch and you use Tan Sao to defend, when you turn to "deflect" it, you can see your elbow is damn near pressed up against the side of your body (I gave examples already). That's a NO NO. Your jamming yourself up for what? If you practiced forward energy when doing your techniques and remembered the immovable elbow rule you would not jam yourself up. You want to do the exact opposite! Jam your opponent up!! I'm pointing these things out not to bash you, but to highlight areas that will improve your "Wing Chun" as well as the other guy in the video. Your demonstration is "working" with that guy because he's cooperating. Instead of throwing him around it would have been nice to have him demonstrate certain elements you highlighted that would work on a bigger guy, as you're a "bigger guy". I believe against a person properly trained for 6 mos in Wing Chun, you'll have an issue on your hands. Because you will have aided your opponent in defeating you through your structure alone. I'm a straight forward person so don't be offended. Hopefully you will review the video and recognize the flaws as well as see the truth in my words. Quick edit...When demonstrating the Bong Sao to Tan Sao and the other "techniques", I can not find your Wu Sao. This is basic stuff. I realize everyone has "their way" of teaching "Wing Chun", but the bare bones basics across all lineages is the same. The Wu Sao is there in case an attack gets past your Tan, Fook or Bong. But you don't have a Wu Sao at all. Pls explain that.

    Taan only works if it is going forward. Otherwise, you are actually doing Tun Sau, which a swallowing energy.

    Remember, guys, everything is always in slow motion, so you don't need safety gear!!! Also, don't forget in a real world situating your opponent will move much slower gining you the opportunity to apply these not so effective techniques!!!🤣🤣🤣

    Wing Chun has too many fatal flaws. Head and neck not protected by the guard. Chin not tucked in, aka floating face. Lack of proper foot work. I don't see side stepping and pivoting.
