Killer playing as usual! Never get tired of hearing you play, and you seem to be loving that new Tyler lots! Great stuff!
Thanks so much! Yes that Tyler is a fabulous guitar!
Ah...the irony, a thirteen (13) knob amp by One Control. Beautiful playing again Mr Tubbs.
The first jam was lit!
It sounds really good for a solid state amp to my ears.
Love the opening jam! Great tones from this thing.
Great demo , Mr. Tubbs killin it . Great sounding backup amp
I love this little amp! It sounds amazing in your hands!
Beautiful playing
Every time I watch Shawn play I know I’m watching one of the greats. So much to learn. Man! Love it
Thanks so much, Jacob! That means a lot to me.
Lovely as always Shawn, thank you.
:38 I love doing that!
SHAWN YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY KILLING ME!!!! Soon I'm going to fly over to the States (from England) knock on your front door, get on my knees and beg you to do Demolition 2 and I will not leave until you start. By the way, that tone and song were exceptional it needs to be on there, track 3!
Haha, Thanks so much, Gary!
Nice tune ST, love that Collins tone always epic !!
Class D 100w in my experience equates to about 20 to 25w in a valve amp power output. Plenty loud enough in most home situations.
Thank you Shawn very nice demo but you can make a matches box sound Ace ;-) This box however sound really good!
Hi Shawn. I love this killer sounding track. Your tone, feel, groove and melodic phrasing are all so spot on. Watching your videos, for me at least, is a spiritual escape from this madness of a pandemic. Take care and thank you for incredible work and insight to the guitar world. Cheers from Canada.
Wow!! Thanks so much, Sam!
It sounds amazing Shawn!!!!!!
Awesome guitar player and fantastastic intro song! the best man showing guitars toys
Thanks so much!! You're very kind indeed.
Mr. Tubs could plug a piece of construction wood into a trash can and still sound awesome.
Le suena hasta un palo de fregona con cuerdas de tripa... siempre suena perfecto el animalazo !!!
Nice run through, Shawn. I picked one of these up a year or so ago. Won’t replace a good tube amp, but great to have in case that tube amp dies. And, it can get some decent tones in a band context if not a loud band. I love Bjorn’s One Control pedals, so figured this would be decent. He recommends pairing with an Eminence GA SC64. $.02😉
Agreed. It doesn't replace a tube amp in my book but it does sound a feel really good.
How cool is this Finally a feature laden SS (well enough features for me) Too bad no seperate gain controls Very cool for a stereo set up w tube amp cause the mids just don't think like tubes Running a tube od pedal I bet would make a difference Good stuff Thanks Shawn ☺️
Nice tones! Pretty sweet for a $500 amp.
$525 US street. Is it just me or is it missing midi control? 🎶🎸🤷♂️
Hey Shawn great demo But wanted to ask you why you chose the DS40 over the Small box Thanks man I'm trying to decide on which of these two to go with
I wanted more of a pedal platform amp and the D40 sounds really fat. If you want the best of both worlds, maybe take a look at the twin sister. It's really to each his or her own. The Small Box and the DS amps are killer!
Sounds great as a blues amp or pedal platform, but I'd love to see/hear more gain out of that sucker.
Yeah, it's definitely not a high gain amp. Seems like they were going for more of a "pushed blackface Fender" thing.
What is the perceived loudness of this amp at full volume? Is it gig worthy?
I was running it at 8 ohms, 66 watts and it seemed to have plenty of headroom for most gig situations.
@@ShawnTubbs Thanks for your time Shawn.
I really liked this amp.. until i had an issue with it. I contacted them, I was forwarded to 3 separate people. There is no where in the USA to get these serviced. Id have to pay to ship this to another country. Im all set, if id known their warranty/service was this bad i would not have bought it.
The problem im having is the you lose headroom and volume after about 30mins and by an hour in your on 10 on the volume. The problem resolves itself if i use the preamp out into a SS power amp. But i bought this because it was easy to move/portable/transport. But now if i want to use it i need a power amp with me that defeats the purpose of of what this amp was suppose to be. Sorry to rain on the parade but not one person whos done a video talks about this. Might be a good idea to give people the overall scope of this amp (Warranty).
Also i had this happen to my amp about 5 months after owning it and i bought it brand new. So I was calling them while in warranty.
Thanks for the video tho ;-)
Cool little amp! I'd be curious to hear how the amp's gain reacts to a boost pedal or TS-type pedal. Great intro piece and playing; what was that weird rhythm track that started at about 0:34, was that you scratching the strings with a wah pedal on?
Thanks so much for watching! That thing that started in the solo section was an old Spectrasonics loop. ;)
I’m curious your thoughts on this compared to a Quilter ToneBlock 202 or OD202 ? I like the Quilter SS stuff a lot.
Thanks for the question Bill! The Quilter stuff sounds a bit fatter to me but has a different top end harmonic than the S66. The S66 feels a bit more vintage and has more of a "Fender Deluxe" sound to it. They're both really good sounding.
Kool Jam
i love the idea of this amp, the controls and look are perfect... i've just never heard anything killer come out of it. it's trying to do a fender impression, but the frequency range just feels unnatural, there's not enough edge to the attack. and i've enjoyed quilter and roland SS amps. maybe i'll try one of these in-person and change my mind, but for now i'm not impressed. (great playing though!)
Thanks so much for watching and for chiming in!
Shawn, would you gig with this amp ?
It doesn't replace a tube amp IMHO but it does sound really great and has plenty of headroom for gigging.
Killer playing man! I could jam to that track for hours. If you don't mind me asking, what was the sound you were using when your solo started? Sort of a "wah" thing but I can't pinpoint it. Cheers!
Thanks so much! That sound is actually an old Spectrasonics Loop that I tweaked in.
@@ShawnTubbs Much appreciated! Thanks!
Would it be loud enough for gigging with a 1×12 16ohm cabinet ???
Would speaker sensitivity rating also play a role in how loud one could go???
I believe the amp with a 16ohm cab is rated at 30 watts. At 8ohm it's 66 watts.
@@ShawnTubbs
Thank you very much!!!
Another question I've had.
If 30 watt (eg) TUBE head is way louder than a 30 watt SOLID STATE head, why don't speaker ratings mention this point. Like, a speaker COULD be rated at "30 TUBE watts", or, "30 SOLID STATE watts".
But speaker ratings do not mention this.
In general, tube output ratings will present louder than solid-state. There is a technical explanation but I'm the wrong guy to ask as I'm not a tech.
@@ShawnTubbs
Thanks.
It seems weird to me that speaker power ratings don't stipulate "tube" or "solid state", since tube amps are much louder than solid state amps of the same wattage.
I also don't understand why amp head power rating, (in watts) varies so dramatically as the ohm rating of the speaker varies.
Am I to believe that the total volume my rig can produce will decrease by 3x if I'm using a 16 ohm speaker vs a 4 ohm speaker?
And, on top of this variance, vary by another (up to) 8x depending upon my speaker's sensitivity rating ?
I know you said you're not a tech, but I'm just putting my questions out. Maybe somebody else will be able to explain.
S.S. Amps have come a long way. I'd love to hear this, side-by-side vs. the Quilter 101 Reverb. Both sound great, from the Demo's I've heard. Always enjoy your playing Shawn.
wow NO headphone jack OR aux jack????? too bad!
Well minority opinion, but subtracmore
