Vettori would have blocked that kick with his head and been completely unphased
Vettori would have absorbed the entire leg into his cranium biomass
Him and Romero ate those on purpose to see if their chins are still good.
Yup!
Vettori would have been like: "I heard bone on bone clashing somewhere. Did you guys here that too?"
Vettori's skull would have left a dent in Justin's leg
Gaethje : "Did you see that head kick ?"
Usman : "I felt it" 🗿

tbh i think gaethjie got kinda lucky. He was getting pieced up by Dustin lets be real. if they run it a 3rd time i will still put my money on Poirier

It's crazy how they both had similar plans to win. Both were hunting for a head kick. But Justin got it first. Respect for Dustin to be so graceful after such a devastating loss and congrats to the new BMF

Dustin is a better boxer clearly, but Justin has shown how much he's grown as a overall fighter in his creativity and game plan
He should get another shot at the title. He's far from finished
The whole fight I was rooting for Gaethje. As soon as he KOed him I was so sad for Dustin. Damn they both are legend of the sport hate to see one of them falling down
i was rooting for dustin but when justin won i was happy for
him haha
Sad for Dustin but was cheering for Justin either way. This way, no matter what happens next we could always have a trilogy fight to close out their careers of they chose
My bet was on Dustin but Justin had such a beautiful performance and such an amazing feint kick KO I was happy for him!
Same
Justin is so durable, and now he doesn't get hit. He's got amazing cardio and no longer wastes movement. He has scary power and is much more accurate than before. He really is a world class striker these days.
We all knew Justin deserved the BMF belt win or lose. He's a savage

JrRanks ... And thereby deserving it. Don't be silly
@@g8lehe means only the winner is deserving. which is a fact in combat sports
Nah
It’s crazy that gaethje threw that high kick in punching range. Straight masterpiece
Hes the same guy that throws leg kicks in clinch distance haha
Hes a special fighter man
Almost like he learned that from the coach who trained TJ dillashaw, who also threw punching range kicks with the feint, it's a completely different kick from the Leon KO, it's mirrored perfectly with TJ high kicks.
@@shanemccarthy1562to be fair even if this is trained off of the kick that Leon hit Usman, Leon has trained head kicks like that his whole life. His form is gonna be so much better by comparison
I'm so glad for Justin for how improved his career efforts are today. From the car wreck fight style to a cerebral practioner. Congrats!😊
Dustin called it perfectly. Justin still does head on collisions, but just wears his seat belt now.
Wonderboy has been doing that combo for over 10 years in MMA. Most MMA fighters still don't train right leg right hand combos
It’s the base most fighters come from. It’s not a common boxing or wrestling combo, but WB is karate based for his striking so he throws a lot of linear attacks and chains same side combos. Most fighters create a parallelogram with their legs and shoulders, or a trapezoid if it’s opposite stances for the pocket. WB will create more of a triangular pocket where he stands at the point because he puts his shoulders in a straight line, Machida did it too, and Anderson to a degree.
@@stealthyturtles 100% correct. Young Conor did that a lot (left straight into left high kick), Ciryl Gane does it quite a bit from both sides and so do Adesanya and Yair Rodriguez. I'm surprised that only these elite strikers have these combos in their arsenal considering how easy they are to do if you get a little bit of leg dexterity
Herb Dean finishing Poirier with a signature Elbow Drop WWE style was the real highlight of the fight!
Justin said in his press conference interview after the fight that he hadn't drilled the head kick, it was purely instinct and the game plan was all about defence. Whatever he's drilling has improved his setup work alot.
He might of not of planned for it. But he definitely trained that head kick or it would of been way sloppier.
Who would have ever fought of seeing Justin win by a head kick a ufc belt? It’s crazy

Herb’s stoppage was on point.
So was his elbow. Heard there was bonus talks for Herb too.
I do hope people’s opinions on Fiziev improves after this fight. Like Weasle said Justin is probably the third best LW in the world and Fiziev had a very close fight with him.
Fisiev a future champion for sure. Justin is just a different cat.
Fiziev over Gamrot 🤔
@@jmz2144Gamrot in a bum.
Fiziev is a beast. Guy's one of the youngest in the top 15 and his career only started in 2015. Justin is a seasoned vet who's been in the game since 08 and has over 2x as many fights as Fiz. Fiz will be a force in the division for a while. Dunno why anyone's opinion would need changing. Not like he lost to a chump, Justin is a one of a kind beast who's been at the top for a long time.
Fiziev is good. I think he becomes champ first from the new lot, then arman next
I called this fight. Justin had a higher potential skill ceiling considering Dustin has always been a technically sound striker. In other words, they both will have improved, but Justin had more room for improvement. What really sold it for me is that Justin’s previous brawling style was enough to compete with Dustin years ago.
I covered my mouth in shock for a good minute or two after the headkick landed. That was unexpected and so clean!
The side by side of Edwards kick & this one was crazy.
I not a regular MMA spectator, but I love your commentary. You're break down. Very nuance, strategic and informative. Thank you.
Love the breakdown man. Well FOOKIN done. You’re literally the only person I’ve heard (in mma) talk about Same side combos and how devastating they can be. Back in the day it was my go to. No one trains for them anymore.
Same. I learned the technique watching Ernesto Hoost in the mid 90s. Been setting up head kicks with the same side punch/faint ever since. I always wondered why no one else seemed to have received that memo after 20+ years .
Fisiev could be a champion, i just think Justin is unique. I rewatched Justins fight with Fisiev and i dont think i have ever seen a fight like that before. Justins new ability seems to make adjustments round by round and its crazy to watch his growth as a fighter.
Trevor is a villain and unlike a lot of fighters who ONLY stick to the plan, Justin uses his instincts more. Justin keeps getting firmware updates every fight too so I think he still has even more room to grow.
Fiziev is a beast. If he had better cardio, he would've won that fight.
@@bendover7841 i cant say i 100% agree.
Best breakdowns on the internet bro! Keep it up!!! 🔥
Everybody at my house was screaming when Justin knocked out Dustin 🤯
Usman wasn’t crying because Justin won he cried because of the PTSD after seeing Dustin getting KOed with the same kick he did.
Nah because the way they kept showing the comparison while he was in the octagon was crazy💀
@@ElderSnowballlmao I was like damn y’all so disrespectful acting like Usmans not literally right over there
@@TroubleOnTheWaters I was thinking the same thing, the guys there on Gaethjes team supporting him and they show that comparison multiple times lol
I just honestly wouldn't have expected Justin to be the one to get a head kick KO
That picture of Masvidal putting the belt on him 😂😂😂 he's like "here you go, I hope you're happy with yourself" 😂😂
The human highlight delivers again. Patient Gaethje is a f*ckin' nightmare. Incredible performance.
It was very strange when some people said Poirier has best boxing in ufc and G has no chance in boxing. Are you people even watching Poirier fights he gets beat up in boxing exchanges from guys like Hooker and Chandler. You can check my comment on prediction video I said G by KO. Poirier was much better boxer 5 years sgo but now i think G is much better boxer
That setup-to-kick should now be coined "the Salt Lake City" or something - TWO of those finishes TONIGHT (nobody seems to be talking about the exact same prelim finish) - plus Leon's on the last SLC card. 👍👍👍👊!!!
It was being used well by multiple fighters well before leon did it

Poor Dustin😭💎. But congrats to Justin, I hope he will get that Undisputed belt.
we need a who really won for that co-main weasle
Feel like Gaethje was in control of this fight because I think there was a power difference. Anytime anything got through, even the leg kicks, Poirier felt them
most definitely. Gaethje's blitzes were better timed and sneaky this time around too. Great fights by these two
Gaethje was landing good combos and clean calf kicks
His power is really high relative to the division. His earlier losses were due to the fact that he wasted much of his power going crazy and trying to get quick finishes. Now he is much more measured so he can go for 5 rounds at the same insane power because he paces himself much more. His development is really an indication of his work/talent/coaching
@@blablablaa14 That's exactly what i thought. He can pace himself better now so that knock out power is there for 5 rounds.
@@blablablaa14 On top of that, he got his nose fixed to allow for better breathing. He’d go 5 rounds anyway but he will still feel a difference with his breathing

Very unexpected ko! Dustin did everything well but Justin is just different. He has evolved his game and is so much smarter out there.
After the Fiziev fire fight , I was very high on Justin because Fiziev through everything at him but Justin stayed on point. I think we will see Fiziev step up his game n probably win the belt.😊
@@osuk1I don’t see Fiziev getting past Justin, Charles or Islam tbh
Watch Justin's Channel " Behind the Curtain " and u will see him throw this a few times in practice. This was no a random spam / fluke.
Also Dustin was ready for it. His high guard was shifted by Gaethjes set up right. This allowed for Dustin to eat more of Justin's foot. DP even still partially blocked it, but not enough. Game of half secs and half inches. NO ONE SAW THIS COMING.
Deadly striker / wrestler ( who doesn't wrestle ) now adds karate to his arsenal - lol. Scary. Kick was clean af and glad Justin got the title and strap. DP a dawg, but if u look at Justin's entire career the title fits him better.
That's interesting because in the post fight I thought he said he'd never done it before ..
Could be he doesn't recall it but it was in the weapons arsenal subconsciously.
Justin is the greatest BMF ever imo, always puts on a show whenever he steps into that octagon win or lose, a true warrior at heart
Great catches weeezle!
Gaethje has thrown some good headkicks in the past - he threw one against Tony that landed and a very similar kick to that one against Khabib which was blocked. But I remember thinking to myself that Gaethje needs to throw it more often.
Great to see him get a win off that kick! Feel for Dustin. But I guess we were all collectively going to feel bad for the fighter who lost!
I loved this fight and hated what it meant for 155. Youve got a top 5 in Islam-Olives-Justin-Dustin-Chandler that is full of killers but no new fights. When Dariush and Fiziev lost to Olivera and Justin respectively i knew the division would be adrift for another year
I met Jorge masvidal one time and literally had a conversation about fighting and I asked him…”why don’t you ever throw a feint into a same side headkick” and he said that doesn’t work in mma (I’m a kickboxer) and he went on to put me on blast said “I don’t need these guys giving suggestions on how to fight”
4 real?
shin to cranium 🧠
Hey weasle, did you noticed that dustin blocked the hammer fist after getting dropped. Also i noticed his eye rolling and coming back to focus. I'm curious what's your opinion on this.
Sorry for broken english 😑
Love that there was 0 talk about Justin's defense. Dude is pure for offense and has become much more technical. Love it!
Amazing video Weasle! Keep up the great work!!!💯🙌💯
He didn't go out "cold". Flash KO if anything. Credit to DP for eating that and never going to sleep.
It honestly just shows how far behind MMA striking still is. Kickboxers been doing this shit for years. And MMA fans are looking at it like it's a new thing
Idk if anyone heard but Trevor during the fight kept tell him to go high. I don’t think he planned the set up for the high kick but he was definitely aiming for the head.
I wanted u to talk about how justin keeps dipping his head during fights. This dangerous cuz his opponents might capitalize on that and knee his face or uppercut him
MMA is such a crazy sport, wild because that’s the same kick Leon threw last year in the same arena vs Usman smh
Justin basically just outsmarted Dustin for that split second
top sum up the video it really comes down to positioning. Justin was being the counter fighter in the open stance. Justin Landed strikes after defending. Thats pretty much what happened the head kick came off good positioning.
This combo is something that Wonder boy likes to throw
In Dustin Poirier’s own words, Karmas not a b**ch she’s a mirror
How is this karma for Poirier though? Him and Justin were respectful to each other for the entire buildup
WTF are you talking about? Why is that mongrel even relevant in this fight? Is this a cringy woke comment? That was trending in 2018, that's half a decade ago.
Outstanding breakdown
Both of these ‘ustins are legends, let them fight a 3rd time in 3 more years.
This was pretty surprising I didn't expect either to get knocked out cold
This is the most ironic PPV event in history with Justin winning the belt with the same kick that beat his coach/teammate last time, as well as Derrick Lewis almost replicating Jorge Mazvidal's best KO on the night Mazvidal officially hands off his only real accomplishment
The word you were looking for is “poetic”, not “ironic”.
@@idealsAREisomorphic You're not wrong

Amazing night of fights tonight, kept switching between UFC and Spence v. Crawford
Honestly, this just shows how good Fiziev was when he fought Gaethje.
Carlos Condit eat your heart out he was doing same side combos and mixing them up with switch’s kicks way back then. Too bad his power isn’t nuclear like Justin
This is such a good combo that’s been around forever, I’ve been using those same hand kick combos since the Edwards fight on UFC 4 and I really enjoy the way it disguises the kick
I've been saying it's an absolute lie that Gaethje had become this technical, smart fighter, and that he's basically been the same fighter he always has been.
He proved me wrong tonight that's for sure lol
If Justin didn't plan that like he said, then that win was all Trevor's training, either way, they are a team and it's a deadly one for sure
Really hope they have a trilogy sooner then later.
Gaethje did to to Poirier what we all thought McGregor would do to him. Hate to bring his name up but this completely rules out the question of McGregor ever fighting Gaethje, he just on a completely different level right now.
Feel bad for Poirier. Best fighter to not have ever held the belt.
He was an interim champion, that’s how he got the 1st shot against khabib.
@@stealthyturtlesGaethje was IC as well
@@stealthyturtles well u know what I mean though
Great breakdown.
This is just how Dustin defends. You don’t have to watch much tape on him to see it. Even the animator mojahed draws him that way with the right hand down and left hand up Philly shell shoulder. And for this most part of his career it worked. This is something that Leon learned while fighting Nate Diaz. In which, Leon had great successes with striking, just that Nate is made of steel. When he used what he learned against Usman….it worked. He just got taken down and damn near gassed out at altitude before pulling it off. Justin never tried it but came damn close twice in the first round. But just like weazel said….one more step forward caused the shin to jaw vs the foot to Dustin’s hand that made all the difference.
Been saying for 2 months now that Justin would finish Dustin. So happy for him. He is THE BMF of mixed martial arts and I really hope he can somehow pull off winning that Title. If not it's all good my guy is a legendary fighter
He definitely won't. He'd just be fodder for Islam.

How many times did Dustin adjust his shorts in this fight, it was like his mental reset tick.
Justin “Rocky” Gaethje
That kick hit Dustin on the neck judo chop. That is one good thing because Dustin probably wasn't concussed.
I think how you were looking at Gaethje ‘setting up’ that shot is giving you the right conclusion but perhaps with the wrong ‘framing.’ He wasn’t weaving some intricate web to trap Dustin, and he said as much. From a fighter perspective, what happens is that things present themselves, the instinct you mention draws fighters TO these openings, which gives us more looks and nooks and information, which sometimes leads the fighter down the path to these openings and in these classic moments the right combination of awareness and footwork and placement and shot choice all combine for a great shot through the perfect gap.
He was a treasure hunter, he noticed the right, broken branches and foot prints, and absolutely found gold
THAT ONE TWO HEADKICK COMBO IS SO LEGIT.
