Same. Round 3 was a no brainer to score for Alex watching live but I was under the impression that yan had won rounds 1 and 2. That’s why it felt out of place for me
In my opinion, Jan won the first and 3rd rounds. 2nd 100% goes to Alex. If Jan can have Alex's back like that it tells me he's a heck of a dangerous guy, He did not fully exploited that opportunity but shows he's a true mix martial artist.
He couldn't submit a kickboxer while he had his back for the entire first round and almost got choked out himself. Then he was outstruck in the champion round. Jan lost fanboy. Go continue to cry about it. I will drink your tears all day. 🍿

Actually i think Jan did the mistake in the gameplan, and despite what he said in the interviews he didnt checked his standup game against alex, if he did it could go much different, but the grappling approach pretty much set up the rest of the fight
@@blaze556922coward? Because he chose to attack his opponent's weakness? By this logic, Alex is a coward for not initiating grappling with Jan. Also, Alex was unable to land anything damaging in the 2 rounds Jan stood with him and it was Alex limping around after the fight. So Jan did check his striking against Alex.
Perreira took the third too easy. He knew he won beacause Jan was gassed, so he played it safe against a dangerous opponent. I think Poatan should have pushed in the third round more, stick and move for a clean win. Nonetheless Pereira looked perfect in the weight class, a new danger has arrived! Looking forward to the next fights!
I learned one thing during that fight. I dont care if it was effective grappling but i would definitely not want a guy like Jan on my back with a bodytriangle. Its one thing when smaller fighters like Islam, Charles or Aljo do it but having a light heavyweight take your back like that looked fking terrifying.
This is funny… you gave Jan an extra light strike in the beginning, and broke out the .5’s for Pereira’s strikes. You’re not even trying to hide your biased intentions anymore 😂
Nice breakdown. scoring heel kicks from the bottom. whatever. The round was even with little to no damage accomplished by either fighter. I would have given it to Jan due to the last minute take down. I felt that was what separated the round.
Close fight, but can’t complain with the result if it gives us Jiri vs Alex for the title. Then potentially we get a champ champ fight with him and Izzy at whatever weight class they want.
He’s a possibility, but I think UFC still angry with him after his last fight ended the way it did. Jiri also never lost the belt, so it would make sense to give him the shot.
@@SuperSilver316 why should they be angry about, even Pereira won split decision today, was also not fireworks or something special today, and he was koed in his last MW fight...he should go through Ankalaev first IMO if he wants belt, Jiri could get title shot also, bot noone knows what exactl is going on with Jiri, you can't wait him forever, if he is not available, somebody else is for sure
Yeap, henry cejudo said that, that takedown at the end of the fight was the worst decision possible by jan, because he did nothing with it and he needed damage at that moment.

I knew that if it was close that’s automatically a win for Alex- he’s younger & more popular. Jan is beloved by real fans, but casuals don’t care about him.
I'm a big fan of Alex but he did not win this round based on damage. counting the heel kicks to the leg while Alex is on his back is so fucking stupid as they do 0 damage. I think there has to be some distinction between partially checked leg kicks and punches to the head, This analysis is super flawed and doesn't give the full picture.
How do you watch this breakdown and still say "Pereira won clearly" 🤡🤡 like it's right in front of your face that it really wasn't a clear fight at all
I thought Jan won to be honest. Utah was rough on the cardio. But im glad to see Perreira getting better in the grappling department. I like Perreira very much as everyone does. The way Jan gassed probably played against him in the eyes of the judges. But still if he was that gassed i would expect Perreira (a predator / hunter / finisher) to finish him. Jan kept Perreira honest. Jan had the most clear cut round (round 1). Finished on top. We know what Perreira’s striking can do damage wise but i didn’t see it in this fight. Not a robbery but i think way too many people are too confident in that Perreira performance seeing it as a clear win.
I think you'll find as long as he didnt get knocked out or submitted, Alex would have won regardless of how close the fight was. Light heacyweight has been f**ked since Jon Jones left. The UFC needs someone to promote and nobody in the top 5 has much of a fanbase, even Hill.
Thanks for the breakdown. Watching the fight I was disappointed with Pereira's output in the 3rd because Jan was gassed and was there for the taking. At this point I'm a little bit more excited to see what Poatan can do in the division so good to see it was a fair decision.
Ur smoking. You picked Pereira and it’s blinding you. Those combos landed by Jan in the 3rd round not being labeled medium and heavy, you wish. Pereira and Jan know who won that round. Jan’s boxing was better there plain and simple. Pereira had a couple good calf kicks and one good jab that round. Jan was putting together combos landed, and you’re just like not much damage Pereira’s moving and rolling. Come on bro. When you follow one good shot by another the strike feels heavier because you’re still thinking about the last one. Jan was tired but he was planted and he’s powerful. When he landed, it was not light by any measure.
I rewatched that 3rd round many times. And even slow motion video breakdowns. Both Jan and Periera had 30 strikes all just pure stand up. Jan however had way more headstrikes. Even if Jan was tired he was still landing. So even in stand up Jan should have had the edge and that was before the takedown. That takedown at the end with Jan landing gnp should have at least sealed that round. And I watched this fight in silence without commentary and I thought this was what happened first time watching. Close striking numbers with Jan more headstrikes and Jan getting the takedown at the end. When I was reading people saying Alex was outstriking him in the 3rd, I was like wth are people even talking about. Then I listened to the commentary booth of UFC and Im like oh thats why. These guys just suck up to any Glory Kickboxer thinking just because the Glory Kickboxer is standing there eating shots and looking confident, hes winning the round just cuz the fights taking place standing? They even counted blocked/checked strikes as strikes for Alex. Horrid decision. Note to future kickboxers coming to UFC: just look confident standing, eat a bunch of head strikes and land some body jabs and leg kicks. You'll win the fight. The commentary will suck up to you as long as the fight stays standing. No matter who is landing, the commentary will automatically assume the kickboxer is winning a stand up battle. So glory kickboxers just need to have a good chin, take head punches, and just land some body strikes to win.
Exactly. Jan wasn't just ''avoiding'' the encounter by going on the ground, he litteraly came very close to actively submit Alex. Jan then managed to go through the whole third round on his feet, where a strong case can be made that he even outboxed Alex, at the very least that it was equal on that matter. Finally, I saw the last takedown as a sign coming from Jan that he was still in control of the situation, asserting dominance in order to cement a win.
You basically exposed yourself with your terrible headstrikes argument. Alex’s leg kicks and body shots clearly did more damage than Jan’s weak strikes to the head. Scoring is based on damage mate, and head strikes don’t automatically mean mor damage
Bro really counted heal kicks to the ass in the same category as ground and pound to the face. Bro ...really.....really also 0 points for a take down. Ure delusional
@@Triumphantchildthis is bs. You say look at the rules and then don’t look at them yourself. Says the first and most important thing is effective striking AND grappling. It doesn’t say effective grappling with intent to submit, doesn’t say effective grappling with ground and pound etc. of course those things increase the effectiveness of it but when you are able to take your opponent down and control them that’s effective grappling period. Besides Jan outstruck him in the 3rd anyway. People misread it cause they say effective striking that causes damage takes precedence and assume that means grappling doesn’t count lol. Crazy. Doesn’t matter anyway cause the judges pick and chose what they want to score and weasle will call a head kick a light strike and a jab to gut a heavy strike.
Saying Pereira did more on the ground in the 3rd after the takedown by Jan because Pereira heeled Jan a few times in the thigh in quick succession is super sketchy. Considering the takedown was clearly the most notable bit of action in the 3rd it should have tipped the scale to Jan IMO. Regardless, good video as always.
That is exactly the problem. The takedown was no action at all. Making someone sit-down does no damage. People like you should never judge fights. You don't know what effective grappling is. A take down without damage is less than a jab
Exactly. Not to mention that because of that very takedown, Jan ended the fight at the top/dominant position. In other words, Pereira was saved by the bell.
Damage > Anything Alex is a better winner for the UFC as well, similar to O’malley v Yan since Yan did have some takedowns but with MINIMAL damage from them, and O’malley sells fights like Poatan sells fights from South Americans
Just watched your breakdown of Jan v Ankalaev again. How can you give Ank a 10-8 in the 5th but not give Jan a 10-8 in this fight in the 1st? You showed text of the criteria for a 10-8 in that video and it looks to me like it would fit here. Jan had Peirera in much more dangerous position than Ank had him too.
Ankalaev nearly TKO’d Jan on the ground. Jan’s submission attempts weren’t that close. Alex also was credited for a submission attempt on top of it. That was in no way a 10-8.
I just rewatched R5 and at no point did Ank ''nearly tko'' Jan. Most of his shots were hitting the gloves and those that got through didn't do anything significant. At one point Rogan says ''Ankalaev could finish him here if he continues this barrage'' However, Ank did not continue said barrage and said barrage was all blocked anyway. Jan came closer to finishing Alex with a sub than Ank did with tko. That said, I did forget about Aex's sub attempt at the beginning. But I still think a discussion can be had for a 10-8.
I think Blachowicz could have won if he hadn't tried so hard to force the takedown in round one. The takedown in round two is more his style, striking and then shooting at the right time. Unfortunately he blew his wad halfway through the round.
Jan won in my opinion without a doubt. All of a sudden having an almost closed choke isnt a submission attempt. Kutateladze had 1 submission attempt against gamrot, and he only put the leg on the back of his head.
If Jan had just started swinging at pereira for those last 5 seconds he’d probably have won, but I’m guessing he was completely exhausted and terrified of Poatan somehow standing up. Surely he wasn’t scared of a sub 😆
I don’t like when you’re judging what’s heavy and medium. Especially when we’ve seen jabs drop fighters and some flush, fight ending, over hands get walked through.
Judges aren’t computers bro 😂 … Alex won clearly honestly without all these numbers, Alex was pushing the pace and being aggressive while Jan was getting away and exhausted and the takedown was honestly just to rest as he didn’t do much and it was in the last minute

Nah, Jan looked super busy all fight but didn't really do much in the end.
Same. Didn’t realize how drastic the strike numbers were. Those leg kicks/body shots really added up and definitely did more damage than Jan.
I hate izzy but happy jan lost just with SD. Jan is a humble guy with no tattoos

So Jan did check his striking against Alex.
Perreira took the third too easy. He knew he won beacause Jan was gassed, so he played it safe against a dangerous opponent. Why does the UFC do these events at high altitude? It just makes the fighters tired alot quicker.
Close fight, but can’t complain with the result if it gives us Jiri vs Alex for the title. Then potentially we get a champ champ fight with him and Izzy at whatever weight class they want.
why not vs Ankalaev for the title?

I thought Jan won to be honest. Utah was rough on the cardio. But im glad to see Perreira getting better in the grappling department. I like Perreira very much as everyone does. The way Jan gassed probably played against him in the eyes of the judges. But still if he was that gassed i would expect Perreira (a predator / hunter / finisher) to finish him. Jan kept Perreira honest. Jan had the most clear cut round (round 1). Finished on top. We know what Perreira’s striking can do damage wise but i didn’t see it in this fight. Not a robbery but i think way too many people are too confident in that Perreira performance seeing it as a clear win.
beat sean, beat izzy, beat jan, this man deserves to be at the top of the ufc.
I think you'll find as long as he didnt get knocked out or submitted, Alex would have won regardless of how close the fight was. Light heacyweight has been f**ked since Jon Jones left. The UFC needs someone to promote and nobody in the top 5 has much of a fanbase, even Hill.
exactly. I think Jiri is their best shot at promoting but ofcourse hes been sidelined. I think Jiri will smash Alex tho
It was pretty clear to me Pereira won rounds 2 and 3. People just don’t know the criteria.
Thanks for the breakdown. Watching the fight I was disappointed with Pereira's output in the 3rd because Jan was gassed and was there for the taking. At this point I'm a little bit more excited to see what Poatan can do in the division so good to see it was a fair decision.
This is great discussion and awesome information and a lot I didn't know that goes into the judgment of a fight.
Jan's strikes had little to no pop on them. He was so exhausted.
the fact that Poatan displayed such beautiful defense in the choke realm just makes me giddy...... He is here......and he is learning.

Great analysis, I was salty all day about this call but slowly coming to my senses hahah
@@gaiusx287 this if that lump on Jans leg was on his forehead none of these losers will say Jan won

Bro really counted heal kicks to the ass in the same category as ground and pound to the face. Bro ...really.....really also 0 points for a take down. Ure delusional
Takedowns and control mean nothing unless you follow them up with damage. Look up the Unified Rules of MMA.
@@thanevakarian9762try reading them again sped. This was close but it was not Jan’s fight

Alex won rounds 2 & 3. Close fight. I had Alex winning. Not a robbery.
How is one calf kick 0.5 heavy strikes?
Saying Pereira did more on the ground in the 3rd after the takedown by Jan because Pereira heeled Jan a few times in the thigh in quick succession is super sketchy. Considering the takedown was clearly the most notable bit of action in the 3rd it should have tipped the scale to Jan IMO. Regardless, good video as always.
That is exactly the problem. The takedown was no action at all. Making someone sit-down does no damage. People like you should never judge fights. You don't know what effective grappling is. A take down without damage is less than a jab
@@blaze556922that is not the point. How heeling someone in the tigh when you are on your back matters at all? That bit should not even be mentioned.

Exactly. Not to mention that because of that very takedown, Jan ended the fight at the top/dominant position. In other words, Pereira was saved by the bell.
Damage > Anything
Alex is a better winner for the UFC as well, similar to O’malley v Yan since Yan did have some takedowns but with MINIMAL damage from them, and O’malley sells fights like Poatan sells fights from South Americans
Counting "heel kicks" on the ground for 7 points is BS.

Jan gets finished in a 5 round fight. Him being gassed that bad also has to sway the round even more towards Alex.
dude you re contradicting yourself
This fight should've been a 5 rounder
