I love this movie; its one of my favorite superhero films. Billy Zane was perfect for the main role, and Treat Williams was so hilarious you just couldn't help laughing at him. Kristy Swanson's character Diana was brave instead of weak, and I even liked supporting actor James Remar as Quill. Seeing Cary Tagawa from Mortal Kombat late in the film was a nice touch, too.
Ok I give the film a mixed review. I think Gene was too harsh (as he often is) and I think Roger over praised it. I liked Billy Zane. I thought he was dashing and charming and had fun with the role. I thought Kristy Swanson was good as well, playing Diana with intelligence and pluck, not as a dingbat damsel. The production design was beguiling and gave us a feel for the 1930s, much like Dick Tracy, The Shadow, and The Rocketeer. Now I did like Treat Williams’ performance but I thought his plan was boring, another villain looking to take over the world with those skulls which were pretty lame. The final showdown between Drax and the Phantom was pretty weak. I think the movie would have been helped had it ran about 15 minutes longer. Mainly to establish more of a relationship between Kit and Diana, and also why Catherine Zeta Jones’s character Sala has that turnaround about halfway through. That comes out of nowhere. That being said, I disagree with Gene. I wouldn’t have minded a sequel. Much like The Shadow and The Rocketeer, I think a sequel to The Phantom would have expanded on the characters and given more of a backstory. 👎🏾⭐️⭐️1/2
I thought Treat Williams was way over the top in this movie. I wish that Billy Zane had played the villain instead. It would’ve been as close as we ever got to him being Lex Luthor.
I just watched the movie for the first time and I agree with both these men in someways. The movie is littered with potholes but bothT. Treat Williams and Billy Zane are entertaining
I love that Ebert bashed the Burton-era Batman costume. The costume still sucked in Nolan’s films. Zack Snyder was the first one to get a good-looking Batman costume on the screen in the modern era in Batman V Superman, that at least kept the gray areas to the costume instead of going with the all-black fetish gear.
I love the Burton era costume. The Synder era costume has the right colors but I *HATE* the short ears. Batman should always have long, pointed, demonic ears !

The film isn't bad but I actually think it would have been better as a TV Show.
One of those fun adventure movies that arent amazing but really entertaining with great action and set pieces, guilty pleasure

Im with Gene on this one. The Phantom has some good qualities but it's pretty dull. Zane isn't bad though.
If you were raised on the comics you loved the movie.
