Miles Davis didn't provide sheet music for his musicians during the recording of his iconic album "Kind of Blue." He said that "I didn't write out the music for 'Kind of Blue.' But brought in sketches 'cause I wanted a lot of spontaneity in the playing." Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool premieres Tuesday, February 25th at 9/8c.

One of the greatest albums of all time, of any genre.

It’s like catching lightning in a bottle. It was just another session, like Casablanca was just another movie, but the recording captured their reasons for being musicians. And you cannot not listen, just like when you are Chanel surfing and see Bogart in that white dinner jacket - you go “oh shit” that’s Casablanca and you are just hooked. You hear that cymbal crash and you are hooked, finger poppen till the needle is scratching at the end and you come out of your meditation !!!

It's all subjective I suppose, but All Blues is a pretty bouncy piece, and Flamenco is one of the most gorgeous Cool Jazz tunes ever
