- This is a version of Xevious that was a type-in listing in a Japanese magazine. Better than any type-in I tried!
The only thing that spoils it are the controls. It's keyboard only, and not the best positioned. I think the programmer was left handed and didn't have a joystick. It's a shame, as it would be MUCH better if it wasn't so painful to play.
Even though it was a type-in, it's a machine code game as the listing is just a system call to start it. The magazine's listing was probably just a load of values to poke the hex into RAM, so I can't just change the program to support the joystick. A Vic-20 programming expert probably could.
Amazing version. Didn't see many Vic 20 listings written in machine code over here. Usually you might have a small routine for basic to call to speed something up.
I think C+VG had a bunch for C64 but yeah vic 20 didn't usually have full games like that :)
It's fantastic for a type-in program. The sound would drive anybody up the wall, but otherwise it's great.
Yes it's hard on the ears, but also faithful to the arcade original, so I still like it.
I agree about the controls. It would be so much better with a joystick. But you managed to get a lot farther than I did!
We need to get Robin at 8-bit Show & Tell on the case to change the code!

I'm not sure which site you got it from, but if you got the 'tap' file from the Japanese site, then I'd suggest you try the 'prg' from the Denial forum:
