    I like ten ounce lace up fight gloves for mitt work . I started back in the mid 90s and we had the little mini Mexican bag gloves . The good thing with these is the feedback you get through your knuckles . I find if beginners start with too big of a glove they sometimes don’t learn to dig their big knuckles in properly . Drilling , sparring ext is all 16 ounce but for mitts I like a fight glove

      Yes sir! That is the help of the smaller gloves and get used to 10/12 oz for amateur fights

    I use the Rival RB5 Bag Gloves Religiously when i Hit the Gym. Iv been using them for years now and they definitely make a difference to that " Dig " When you punch through a target. Love those gloves !
    Great work as always Coach 👊🔥

    I mix it up on the bags but only use bag mitts on floor too ceiling ball I’m mid 50;s only a couple of older blokes than me at my gym that have actually boxed but they all use bag mitts only. Works for us! I’m new to your channel. I like it!!

    I used anything from bareknuckle to, 8,10,16,18 when I competed. Mainly use 8 and 18 now for general stuff, but I say use them all, why not. I would say training in the size of glove you are going to compete in is essential though. Even sparring, which most won't teach. But I think you should spar in the size you are going to compete in as well. Because an 8 or 10 or 12 oz glove feels different than a 16 or 18. You should know what it is to hit and defend in the size you are going to compete in. But only if you have good control.

    When i switched to small bag gloves after a few years of ‘regular’ gloves wear, i realized I didn’t know how to punch. Having these small gloves taught me how to properly hit with my knuckles and all my wrist and hand pain went away.
    Now, I am nowhere near pro level power, but I am a decently strong 200 lbs guy. Perhaps if I was blasting as hard as some of you other guys I couldn’t get away with bag gloves.
    Secondly, my defence and ability to catch and parry improved. Also, my inside work got better and guard manipulations.

    Hey coach i agree with your take on bag gloves. I would also say the pro is the bag glove gives you more accurate with your punches ie hitting the target with your knuckles, i know what you mean about the bags being lighter back then but from what i know of i havent heard any old time boxer saying they had any problem with hands or had hand injures, i could be wrong but also they could've hidden that so they looked tuff but since bag gloves have became pretty much obsolete theres more reports on hand injures people getting hand surgeries is there maybe a connection to bag gloves I would love to hear your take

      Great thought. I would have to see what the data says because there were a lot of guys back in the day who broke their hands as well.

    I know you said you are supposed to hit with your main knuckles but how do you do this without bending your wrist very much? I am worried about getting a wrist injury and it seems very difficult to hit on the knuckles at least all four on straight punches. For a hook it seems a lot easier.

    Coach could you explain some bareknuckle stuff? I'm mostly curious about your opinion on vertical versus turned over punches, apparently those old timey bareknuckle guys didn't really turn their punches over. Did your dad or Chuck Bodak ever talk about John L. Sullivan?

    • @coachKeithKeppner
      @coachKeithKeppner  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes they did, but outside of Sullivan ushering in gloves because he favored power punching and putting punches together nothing really on vertical vs horizontal fists

    When no boxing gloves are around to train to simulate the weight for endurance can light dumbells be used for shadows boxing for the endurance?

    • @coachKeithKeppner
      @coachKeithKeppner  5 місяців тому +1

      It certainly can. Do that towards the end though so it doesn't affect your speed (depending how heavy the DB's are)

    Coach do you need hand wraps for bag mitts ?

    Hey you might not see this, but I’m an amateur boxer. I train really hard, with lots of shadowboxing, bag work, and running at least 6 miles (without hurting myself). But whenever I do pads after all of that, I get tired quickly. Is there any advice you could give me on pads.

    • @coachKeithKeppner

      Yes focus on popping punches and stay and lose verses trying to overspeed or hit hard. The reason it's different is because you're getting two tents somewhere or somehow.

    Great video! I havent seen anyone talk about bag gloves like this video. If they have its just a review not as long as this video. What's your opinion on Jack Dempsey's book Championship Fighting Aggressive Defense and Explosive Punching?

    Coach, there is a problem with your gym's website, the drop down menu under "Resources" has 2 Russian language links, one goes to a "pin up" site and the other goes to a sports betting site, there is also another link called "luckyjet" which goes to some Russian gaming app. Just thought you might want to know your website may have been compromised.

    Your point about how sparing gloves are expensive and ratio of landing punches in sparing to heavy bag is incomparable, this is exactly reason why I have 2 pairs👌🏼 cheeper for bag, I use to have 14s for heavy bag but lately I wanted to experience 10s, how fast I can be with Match weight gloves, but I’ve noticed one thing that weight writen on gloves often doesnt match reality, for example for heavy bag I have now 8oz, but I weighed them and they are actually 10oz, and my 16oz sparing gloves are realy 13oz🤔 I wonder why so big inaccuracy, have you ever checked this on your gloves? Real weight?

    • @coachKeithKeppner
      @coachKeithKeppner  5 місяців тому +1

      @@coachKeithKeppner those 16 for sparing are Twins, but I had also Buakaw signature 16 gloves and those were also 13, an then I had less known brand Yakima 10oz and those were actually 14 which is ridiculous
