This could have so easily been an epic romance.
I totally agree! It could have been such a good journey of redemption and Alina changing him! They are so much more suited than her and Mal. Yes he would have been safe but Alina is more than that!

They should have made his...darkness a little more ambiguous. Drawn out the romance a bit. Before you knew it, his evil was exposed. So any possible conflict for her being attracted to him immediately resolves. Too soon.

Can someone explain to me why Darkling is a bad guy? I haven't read the book, I just know that there are a lot of darkling and alina fans. I didn't expect their relationship to be like this, if they hate each other, why are there so many darkling-alina fans? I thought they were in love with each other, but alina officially hates darkling and darkling treats alina so badly why does such a bad relationship have so many fans? Will their relationship improve in the next books?
if you don't look at him so much as the bad guy or villain and more of a person who thinks what he's doing is right...i think darklina fans pay close attention to their connection...at the very core of it, it's true but they're in a mess so of course its gonna be bumpy along the way. many people thing the darkling is abusive or manipulative towards alina and that's why a large amount of ppl are against it. i don't justify his actions but the ship is so great because of their connection. you cannot deny the symbolism in their relationship (light and dark/sun and moon/yin and yang) it's just beautiful. i'm not sure any of that made sense but i tried ahaha!
In the books Mal was a bit of a tool...they decided to redeem him more so that more people would actually ship him with Alina. In the books, if she's not with the darkling(if he can't be redeemed), you kinda want her to find a third man,lol.

@@nowunited-thenextbiggestgr4836 I agree that the author decided to grow his character in the books later on as well as the show. But my comment was in regards to the first books. I actually like the fact that the author made them flawed when she started it. We all make mistakes when we're young.
