  • The small city of Maryborough, the birth place of Mary Poppins, is the subject of this 4K walking tour which took place in December 2020, not long before Christmas.
Covid really seems to have impacted Maryborough with the streets quiet and many businesses look like they are permanently shut. Maybe being so close to Christmas everyone had left town for a holiday somewhere else.
There are some historically old buildings in Maryborough, which was nice for this 4K walking tour as I walked around what would be considered the CBD.
It was warm weather, the streets quiet and the afternoon was winding down. I could only find two pubs that were open.

I thoroughly enjoyed this splendid, visual presentation of a very special town, one that has remained close to my heart for just over half a century. I lived and worked in Maryborough for several weeks during the latter months of 1971. Come the end of that year, I regretfully, (and reluctantly) bade a sincere, heartfelt adieu to this stunning settlement, and that of its exquisite surroundings, including nearby Hervey Bay. I vowed I would one day return to this hugely attractive and amazingly welcoming idyll, yet, I committed myself to a 35-year tenure of soldiering with the British Armed Forces - consequently, Maryborough became just a memory.
Nonetheless, no matter where in the world I was engaged in combat, (from West Belfast to the back of nameless beyond) and as a means to lift one’s sometimes flagging spirits, I would occasionally permit my mind to transport me back to the days of one’s carefree youth, living and loving in an out-of-the-way Queensland municipality, and of keeping company with a stunning and sensuous lassie of no equal, with whom I was unabashedly smitten.
She too, has never departed my senses, even after all these years. In every respect, Maryborough was and remains so, a place of magnificent beauty, geographically, botanically, and emotionally speaking. So, thank you for inviting me along to see it all once again, minus the love of my life, sadly.

I'm here for the nostalgia lol, I remember when I used to date my ex I would always ride my bike or even run around 15:00 and make a few turns onto walker street. I really miss those simple days. Would always be up like 4 am in the morning.
