    Denys, as a 60 year old Swedish business man living in Ukraine and also doing my military duty in Special forces in Sweden I can assure you that there is a lot of "older" men, age 40-50-60 that is much better in combat then 20-25 year young guys. The conditions in growing up and being outside as a young kid has but the base to be able to carry heavy backpacks and heavy armour. A lot of young men, 18-22 in Sweden and other countries are very very week in their body construction sitting on a chair with computer when they grow up. This is a problem for the Swedish military and also a lot of western countries. Second thing, defending your family, children and country is a very important part of being a good soldier. Usually, risk calculation is higher among older soldier than young guys. Just look at how many older men who have volunteered in UA comparing to young men. So, don't down value too much older men as a good soldier. Slava Ukraine. 🇸🇪🇺🇦

    The UK had a ' Home Guard ' in World War 2 made up of older men. They were used in a defensive role and numbered several hundred thousand.
    Many jobs were taken on by the Home Guard which relieved the front line forces from low level , back area tasks.

      I always thought that would be a smart idea, because as an older guy I still want to be useful and serve my country, just not side by side with a bunch of young guys with more strength, stamina etc... I would be a liability. But I have eyes and ears, experience and communication skills. I could help with logistics, repairs, and a few things I probably should keep to myself. Bravo UK for paving the way.

    • @quibster
      @quibster 3 місяці тому +2

      I was just researching this and you are totally correct. Formerly the LDV, Local Defence Volunteers, then changed to Home Guard to avoid confusion with one of the enemy acronyms. Some info from the omnipotent machine god suggests they peaked at 1.5 million men in service in 1943. Though they were not all necessarily volunteers who stepped forward as the name suggests, rather it comprised mainly of older men, who were either initially ineligible for military service, or had been discharged from the armed forces due to age or other reasons.
      I imagine this force to be invaluable especially in labour value, when considering ten of these men would on average make up 500 years experience & most of them would have had direct experience of the great war and it would be correct to say so. Much of the tooling, infrastructure and ships these men worked on is still being used today.

    Austrian defense minister is wrong! All Russian military targets are legitimate targets by international law after Russia attacked Ukraine and started the war. This should not even be a question. How can this be up for debate? If Austria was attacked by another nation, would they not defend themselves or would they just turn the other cheek? Russia must be forced to leave all Ukrainian lands with all means possible. Economic, diplomatic and military. A united west also have to ensure that a similar situation does not arise again down the line.

      The whole argument is completely absurd. Why is no one talking about Russia hitting Ukrainian targets? Or the simple fact that Russia invading at all is illegitimate? If Russia were persuaded to stop and leave then no one would need to worry about which targets Ukraine should be allowed to hit. They won't stop, so Ukraine should be able to do whatever. They have already proven that they have some morality conducting their defense, in spite of horrible war crimes against their citizens on their land.

Even with western help, they only ever get the bare minimum. I know you support your country and your people and you obviously just want the best for them.
