Quick update to everyone! It has been almost 2 years and the side splitter is still good on my car. Never had problems in rain or coming off when driving.
Regardless of what any of us says, this is an affordable and simple DIY for those that want that look without spending a few hundred bucks on real splitters. Seems less labor-intensive than most other DIY ideas too. If you're happy with the results, then good for you. They look clean imho and it seems you used the right material so as to avoid water/moisture damage. Nice work!
For the record..they sell these same base moldings at most Home Depots too (I did find one here that doesn't carry them). Lots of guys say to use abs..ok, maybe so but those take longer, and are actually even more work. And trust me, I'm an ASE certied collision tech and I can guarantee you being these are made of polystyrene, they are just as strong as the rocker moldings themselves. Now if I was doing a 'legitimate' front splitter and want a lighter version of side splitters, abs sheet cut to fit would be the way to go. BUT this is supposed to be a low buck answer than can be done fairly quickly, and it IS! Great job btw. Gonna start on mine tomorrow (for a Mini Cooper Clubman wagon). ;)
Try it with abs plastic sheets. They sell them at home depo. A lot stronger. Some people use them for custom front splitters and rear splitters for time attack cars. Since the variety of cars are so big its hard to find actual splitters for not so aftermarket heavy cars. a customer of mine, as a 2012 base model Ford Focus, 5-speed that he boosted and build for time attack and you can find a lot of aftermarket parts for the St, but nothing really for the four-door sedan 5 speed,. Custom made him a splitter, diffuser and side skirts.
Thank you I appreciate it! Yea I should have cut it first before wrapping haha. Either way works good! As for painting the edges black, I did it so that you wouldn't be able to see the white material from the sides after you mount them on the car
Thanks for the vid. You probably already answered this, but curious how you finished the ends? Did you wrap the ends as well or painted? This would be the area I'd assume could come undone over time. LMK.
This video is awesome and already planning to do this on my yaris this weekend, however here in the philippines thing like the material you use are not common, so would you happened to know what those trims are called, so I can ask the right question when I go to home depot this weekend, thanks and more power to you.

i bet the carbon fiber wrap helps keep it safe from rain/water even if it was wood (which its not) ! nice job!! will definitely try this out on my jetta
Nice and clean! Save that money....sonny lol! Is that 5D CF wrap? Looks good, might go that cf wrap route for my hood and spend 100 bucks instead of getting one for 800+ ! I actually have the same side vicrez splitters as Marco 👍🏽

Lol i literally just went to home depot and bought similar shit myself but it was 35 a piece and like 5 or so inches wide. In my opinion, it wouldve looked better if u had them sticking out more like another inch or so
Nice man! Yea I guess maybe Lowe's had them cheaper. I wanted them to stick out more too but I had it not stick out too much since I had friends who had people step on their side splitter
@@TheJMedia funny u mention that, my brother and ex gf stepped on mine too and screws popped out. I once tripped on it getting into car and felt like such an idiot. The boards i bought from home depot were pvc on outside but its actually wood. But from touch and look it looks totally pvc. They bend a lot. They are so floppy. I hope once screwed into the car they become solid and totally straight.
