Look how sensitive Gary is with the controls. Great band to be supporting Gary. This is a historic recording; Gary died soon after, and he looks so happy. You're a special person Becky, thanks for posting!
What a lot of people don't realize, this guy was one hell of a songwriter. He might not have been the lead vocalist for REO, but he was most definitely the backbone. What an incredible musician.
Gary could still play here like no other. RIP Gary Richrath! You left your signature that will echo forever in this Journey that they call life. Keep rockin the heavens.
Absolutely. I will always remember Gary from the 1981 Live Infidelity concert that MTV used to show all the time. Gary was the pinnacle of rock guitarists back in the day & an amazing talent. People need to go back and listen to his body of work before they criticize the man they see in this video for the way he looks. RIP Gary
This is so sad to witness. Gary was such an incredible guitarist, who played with emotion and feel. The ravages of illness took its toll. He is unrecognizable here. Compare him to 34 years ago when he was performing with REO. It is truly a loss to music that Gary Dean Richrath passed away.
O que realmente aconteceu com ele? Eu gosto muito, mas é difícil saber alguma coisa bem real, são muitos comentários, ele era incrível, uma performance linda e um músico fora do comum.
I dont care what he looks like . Its still Gary and he played with heart and soul . I miss him and lets not forget , there would never be reo with out Gary WE MISS YOU GARY !!
See him feel the crowd. Then BAM! He was that rock guitar god again. The insecurities left him. Just an incredible musician doing what he loves best. Giving you a show. A listening rock and roll ride with his guitar. Yes Kevin runs the show now, love REO but he wasn't going anywhere without Gary. Gary brought him in. Gary put the sound to the songs. Gary put POWER to the ballad. Without Gary there would of been no REO. Thank you RIP
Depression is a horrible disease. Yet cruel people that don't have a clue what it can do to a person want to make smart ass comments about his appearance. He also was diabetic. May he rest in peace and may karma get those people that are so ignorant and cruel that have not a clue.
EXACTLY and you know how hard it was for him to go out and play. I'm not talking about his appearance, I'm talking about his mindset. I met him in 92 after the release of his solo album and he was just not with it and it was sad. He mentioned a few things after we got talking that made sense but was upsetting to hear.. I will always be a fan of his and I understand depression..
It's great to see Gary on stage again. One of my guitar heroes, my first guitar was a burst LP copy because of Gary. He's still got chops too, I hope he gets on stage more and regains his zest for life. Check out the pre Kevin video reo speedwagon live 1971!
Yeah. I think he was and is a great guitar player. I loved the live album you get what you play for. He had a great style. No copy cat just good time playing. He was great.
that guitar solo still gives me the chills after all this time , what a great musician and he is not even on the top 100 guitarist of all time ...what a mistake
Think how deservedly blessed he felt here, that decades after release, the whole audience is singing the hell out of this epic song. I cold-played the album track literally today to my ensemble band, and a teen singer belted it out right along! Others in comments have already pointed out what an amazing guitarist he was. On top of that, just wanted to add that he had the most righteous pick-slide of them all!
I definitely would put Gary in the guitar hero category! I grew up in the 70's & very early 80's.. Saw most the greats live.. saw REO in 1980, '83 & in '85.. GREAT LIVE BAND & LEGENDARY CAREER!!!
I saw Rainbow open for REO and Blackmore was unbelievable no way I thought Gary would be able to top that but the minute REO came on no question Gary was even better .I couldn't believe it!
Gary such an inspiration to me. My first guitar was a generic les Paul copy (“Magnum” I think lol). 40yrs you can still hear the influence in my playing. But WTF was up with the vocals? Kinda disrespectful to him. Should’ve been able to give him (Gary) the best possible that was available. That songs not hard to sing (lead) for any half-ass singer. Jmo RIP Gary Richrath. Definitely missed but left so much… ✊🏼 Thank you for sharing… 🙏🏼
With all due respect... as a drummer, it's killing me how bad this drummer is dragging, and I am not talking about tempo...he is way behind the beat, and towards the beginning you can tell it's driving Richrath nuts..lol. At 1:10 he really slows down, and that's when Richrath turns and gives the "pick up the pace" bouncing body language.. but I don't think the drummer caught it. Maybe he has a reason, I dunno. Anyways... RIP Gary Richrath.. a legend for sure.
I mean no disrespect to Gary Richrath--an amazing guitarist, and the guts behind REO Speedwagon, as far as I'm concerned--however, just seeing what he looked like in his later years has inspired me to go cold turkey on the booze. I don't want to end up like the bloated mess he became because of his overindulgence in alcohol.
Thanks All! obbor4...there is going to be a WHOLE lot more coming!! Stay tuned!!! Gary has teamed up with some REALLY good Peoria talent, and in a few months...the Gary Richrath Band will be resurrected with even more talent from the Peoria, Il. area! Stay tuned Babes!!! I sure the hell ain't done sharing either! ;)
Look how sensitive Gary is with the controls. Great band to be supporting Gary. This is a historic recording; Gary died soon after, and he looks so happy. You're a special person Becky, thanks for posting!
That's how he played. Just his Gibson Les Paul straight into that Marshall amp. No effects pedals, just pure talent and ability.
What a lot of people don't realize, this guy was one hell of a songwriter. He might not have been the lead vocalist for REO, but he was most definitely the backbone. What an incredible musician.
Imagine 360, Yes he was, he wrote most of their songs!!
He wasn’t the defacto lead singer, but he did sing lead on a few of their earlier songs, and he had a pretty damn good voice.
Phenomenal guitar player!
That solo was freakin amazing
Gary could still play here like no other.
RIP Gary Richrath! You left your signature that will echo forever in this Journey that they call life. Keep rockin the heavens.
Thanks Gary Richrath, for all you shared with us and we all miss you, RIP
Comments...proof that people can't see beyond looks. It's Gary Richrath...and he was awesome.
Yea he's fn one of the greatest guitarists of all time
👍👍👍👍
Hes still the same person he always was.Hes an awesome guitarist. R.I.P Gary.

People need to go back and listen to his body of work before they criticize the man they see in this video for the way he looks. RIP Gary
Gary was one of my earliest guitar influences. Addiction and depression are horrible things. He never recovered from being fired from REO
He could still play really well but alcohol took him from us even after he got clean
Yes part.of the good guitarrists pass away with his death R i P Gary. You play w the angels in heaven Thanks for all yours songs and music
O que realmente aconteceu com ele? Eu gosto muito, mas é difícil saber alguma coisa bem real, são muitos comentários, ele era incrível, uma performance linda e um músico fora do comum.
It does my heart good to see Gary Richrath back at it. He was my first guitar hero back in the day. This is awesome.
Nobody plays it like the master! RIP Gary...thanks for the great music.
Not too many are touching this man’s guitar skills. The solo for golden country is probably the greatest of all time.
golden country your face is so red !
He left us with some amazing guitar work with that Les Paul! RIP...Gary!
RIP Richrath.. Ride that storm out, brother..
I dont care what he looks like . Its still Gary and he played with heart and soul . I miss him and lets not forget , there would never be reo with out Gary WE MISS YOU GARY !!
This man here is a true Legend that's where REO got that classic sound rip Gary
You can tell he's got a kind soul
Just a great guitarist, all the way around,, Damn what a shame he is gone,
Never forget " nobody can steal a woman with his guitar like Gary can" RIP my man you've been a part of me since my teenage years.
See him feel the crowd. Then BAM! He was that rock guitar god again. The insecurities left him. Just an incredible musician doing what he loves best. Giving you a show. Sweet the guitar man Gary Richrath may you rest in peace Gary Richrath you're in God's hands know.
Even in 2014, Gary still had those chops. He played Take It On The Run as only he could!

Gary's tone was so unique and he was a great player.
The one and only. No one can play that solo the way he used to do. RIP
Rest In Peace, Gary Richrath !!!
Spread your wings and fly high!!!
We are all watching a Legend!
He was super talented and knew how to coax greatness out of a Les Paul!Looked like he was at peace and having a good time in this clip.
Best guitarist with the Les Paul
He had the best guitar tone ...and a great player...this is so sad, the drugs and booze destroyed him
Still made that Les Paul scream! RIP Gary
Yeah. I think he was and is a great guitar player. I loved the live album you get what you play for. He had a great style. No copy cat just good time playing. He was great.

Gary such an inspiration to me. My first guitar was a generic les Paul copy (“Magnum” I think lol). 40yrs you can still hear the influence in my playing.

More proof that life doesn't give a flying fuck whether you're famous or not.
Must say I was shocked to see how much weight he'd gained by that time, it couldn't be healthy......He was a gift while he lasted!
He is utterly and completely unrecognizable here. Holy crap, old age fucking SUCKS.
He wasn't that old, he was sick and overweight here.
god did he look like hell ridiculous one of the best gone to shit
barely recognize him, he clearly had quite a few denoms chasing him. Hope he is a peace now.
Oh my God He was amazing with REO, what happened?
Power chords anyone?
Teaching to the new cats..or kicking old school..
Or pure excellence
Either way
Bad @ss.. greetings..
Drummer is following, not driving

Cocaine is a helluva drug
That had nothing to do with it. Do your homework!!!
@@lizzielorman2158 i loved Gary and know about his alcoholism
drummer is dragging

I don't know what or who this is.
Wow!
@Poo Characteristically, your comment is 100% pure shite; thattaway for being true to yourself!
Singer needs to limit his voice to the shower....
