Really thought this was an old rocksteady recording when I first heard it, hearing the sad story of this band is absolutely heartbreaking and I'm so glad we got this absolute gem
I really wish Daptone would compile this and "Sharon" and all the other prime tunes that weren't on either of the albums. These guys were special. Killer rocksteady grooves with no pretense or affectation, and Dan Klein's vocals were so freaking beautiful. Like Slim Smith & The Uniques, 50 years later, in NYC. Utterly beautiful.
An absolute genius. He has inspired a generation that music does not die. I have shown this song to many friends and all said is this from back in the day? Pure class
A woman from another country and I fell madly in love with each other while she was visiting. She extended her stay until her visa expired. I had to take her to the airport and watch her leave, to go 4000 miles away. I'd rather go blind than to have to see her leave again.
relaxed feel and just the right amount of decoration with back up vocals. I'd go to this island any time, but I would like to hold on to my vision ....Etta is smiling at'cha.
I was actually thinking like wow this is actually probably better than Etta James and Beyonce version. But I would just say this version made it seem fun to have your heart broken 😅
new fave band doing a cover of one of my most loved songs. im honestly touched by this. what a beautiful swan song the whole album is . bless , nuff love
Oh wow shit, I remember reading that Dan was ill some time ago. I have just found out he died and I’m ever so sad. This and ‘Admiration’ got me through some tough times. He was such a talented singer. RIP
Ohhh wowww BEAUTIFULLY crafted original in your own style nicely done !!... AWESOME 👌 I like this i could cruise to this !! This is a great tune !! ...I Love this version !!. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL , AWESOME !!
Ahahhahah mais um brasileiro aqui! Mano maior dor da minha vida saber que nunca vou poder ir em um show deles :( que banda icônica, o som deles mudou minha percepção sobre música
Lol real reggae. Lots of non Jamaicans contributed to your real reggae over the years. Ever heard of the Wailing Souls Firehouse Rock? Guitar played by a white guy from NY.
@@carlwinslow5905 Firehouse Rock was produced in Jamaica, with Jamaican engineers, mostly JA musicians, in a Jamaican studio. Just because they used a US guitar player doesnt equate this to what the Frightnrs did. The key difference between reggae produced JA and the rest of the world is that JA reggae used to lead the way: every change in sound, rhythm, arrangement style came from JA. They were the innovators, the creators. The rest of the world just followed and tried to catch up. Ska, then rocksteady, reggae, and within reggae, verious styles like rockers, rubadub, then computer style, dancehall, etc... all of these trends appeared in JA, not in NY or London, or Beijing, or anywhere else in the universe. So yes, Jamaicans used foreign influences: Cuba, Soul, Philly, etc... but they created something new and fresh that noone else was capable of creating
@@tabou1 i agree with you. I was there, in those times, making it. But im not blind nor closed off to it either. Right now, there is no reggae here. Ask any kid on the street. No one cares or knows. But they're quick to judge when 100,000 people on twitter see hardworking non jamaicans making reggae. Jamaica isnt keeping it alive unfortunately and its very sad.

I'd rather listen to real reggae from Jamaica by Jamaican artists and Jamaican musicians than this, although the singer is great.
I don't they claimed to be a reggae group this is inspired by 60's soul. but it does have touches of reggae sound

Why trying to make it sound "old"? The reason Jamaican music sounds like it did is because lack of advanced recording equipment.
+Randy Gonzalez you no understand.
