  • The Lantern Festival marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations.
After 15 days of feasting, today marks the last day of Chinese New Year, which is also Yuan Xiao Jie - 元宵节, also known as the Lantern Festival. It falls on the 15th day of the lunar year, which is February 24th this year.
In Chinese, 元 can mean "first" and 宵 usually refers to "night". So 元宵 literally means the first night that we can see the full moon in the lunar new year. It symbolizes the arrival of spring and the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations.
On this day, we not only appreciate beautiful lanterns and solve lantern riddles, but also enjoy eating Tang Yuan (汤圆), another important Chinese tradition. Tang Yuan is made of glutinous rice with various stuffings such as bean paste, black sesame and peanut etc. It can be boiled, deep fried, or steamed to enjoy.
Anyway, wishing everyone a Happy Lantern Festival! 🧧🧧恭喜发财 🍊🍊
