I was listening to the song and envisioning how I think it should be done. This is exactly it! That expression at the very end gave me chills!! I really love the way she didn't overact and just let the words speak for themselves. BRAVA!!!
Brilliant! She's such an amazingly well-rounded performer, I could see every thought that went through her head. Truly amazing; beautiful voice, perfect composure, and she hit every note on the head with confidence. Meredith, you are a role model to anyone in the performing arts business.
Probably the best rendition of this song i have heard!! i love her passion, and she takes a more lighthearted view on this song compared to other performners!! i loved it!!
I've to sing "Stars and the Moon" in a couple of weeks, in an open class, and this video has been absolutely inspirational. I'm not a native English speaker, so I had a hard time with the lyrics, but this performance helped me understand them much better. Thanks!
OMG Don Hite. I remember this from the summer of 1999 in Hilton Head. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to perform in that show. So many talented people. I forgot how stunning this song was. Hope you are well.
I met her yesterday and she told me that she is always nervous. I can't tell at all. This was beautiful and it was beautiful yesterday at Summerstage ;) Kacy
Wow she's amazing at this song - ive heard this song sung by so many people and this is by far the best singing and performance i've seen. Fantastic stuff! x
She sounds like it's her life she's talking about. This lady has the talent to make you laugh during the song and make you cry in the end. THAT is HARD. Personally, I've seen MANY videos of this song (believe me, I'm using this song for auditions) and other actresses show only sadness through the entire song. But here, it seems as she is remembering, and she smiles... Dunno, I find this version the perfect one. Has also makeup and the right clothes and earrings.. Brilliant. Just Brilliant.

@hptwilightaddict Steffi D's is good, I'll admit, but it doesn't have the same raw emotion that this one does. I actually got goosebumps at the end and I wanted to cry.
I have never seen this play nor do I know the meaning behind the character, but this song sounds to me like a woman who is never satisfied. Although the ending could be regret, it could also be her reflecting on just another thing she "couldn't" have. i do love the song, but can anyone else at least see that aspect of this?
The song is beautifully sung and acted, but you've touched on something that's been bothering me about the sung for a long time. And it has to do not only with the female character but also with the man she's singing about. Although he's portrayed as a sensitive free spirit, let's not forget he "left a wife and kids in Portland on a whim." And although she has everything any rational human being could want, she still wants more. In other words, an immoral cad and a spoiled-rotten brat. I'm sure that's not how Jason Robert Brown intended us to view these characters, but it makes you wonder what values the song is asking us to endorse: Freedom at any cost because marriage -- both hers and (implicitly) his -- is a soul-deadening trap? The song's overt message is easy enough to summarize: Freedom is good; materialism is bad. But the underlying message seems to be something else altogether.
In response to @jnetusil's comment......I think Meredith is great both on the singing and acting fronts - love the fact you can see her thoughts so clearly - that's what musical theatre is all about isn't it? Audra is lovely too - a very different style, so not really fair to compare them. In my opinion they are both hugely talented beautiful women who do wonderful versions of this great song. Don't think your " borderline tacky" comment was very kind or called for really. Well done M I say!!
Well sung and great vocal quality..but a bit over-acted. while the song carries some tongue and cheek humor it really is a lament. not regretful but a sharing of self discovery and understanding of what's important.
best version of this song. period.

I've been thinking about this for 8 years and I've decided that no, I can't see that.

her lips are insane!
She's really fantastic! Great interpretation.
could have done without the "the-uh moon"
but yeah.

@jnetusil what makes this version so great? because she acts out every thought so literally? i think it's borderline tacky. audra is untouchable.
