Rest In Peace for my last ranger who blocked a Norn Emissary advance in my army. A very good tools for board control those rangers, going for a second squad of 5.
Hey, thank you for this great video. And all your work in general. After about 20 years, I decided to get back into 40k (i really wanted to paint) and some of the Eldar minatures (old and new) have always been so interesting, that I decided to buy some guardian defenders and also some others later on ebay. I really like how you explain some strategy and once I finally am done to the level I like my painting to be, i will definitly put some of it to use. The rangers looked so great and seemed of value for a small starting list, luckily I got a good deal for a pack of 5. This video is perfect to explain a newbie (everything is different since 3rd edition) some fundamentals AND the connection to the awesome rangers. Cheers! 😊
I like the new kill team for its update to the classic design. Can one of you explain to me how many infiltrating units a small list of Eldar can stomach before its not balanced anymore? Could you use the movement block with two 5 men squads of rangers and support one of them at the time as Schwerpunkt around an objective with 5 or 10 scorpions? I think this must be excessive right? How many rangers are useful? And can you use a full 10 minature squad of it effectively? (Same obviously also for the beautiful scorpions)
I personally think two units of rangers and a unit of scorps is fine you typically dont want to go a full 10 man unless using illic and the scorpions i find dont need to be run in units of 10 to do effective damage@@ElectricFencer
I run my 10model unit of rangers with nightspear and have my 5-model unit of scorpions backing them up with karandras, it is very shocking how frustrating and powerful it can be.
Very nice video!! I am a beginner 40k player and I was just looking for a video like this! I would have nev3r imagined that the Rangers are this good! I used them completely wrong, just bought them bc they Look cool...😅 Thank you, you have my sub! ❤
really good the map with the explainations !! if you can do that again with some units that are underestimated, i take it. For exemple, i won a game just because of my wraithlord and his spirit in the middle objective of the map because of a tempting target of course on the middle objective turn one... But the wraithlord done it with the right support of a war walker to destroy the only unit that could make a lot of damages on the wraithlord and the Farseer gave him the buff to do it. And one fate dice to save against muli melta shot. I play my Eldars unit in the trium virat rule. Three units always working in team. I done it in 2nd edition and it still work in 10th edition.
That’s exactly how you want to play the Eldar! Working as small groups to eliminate threats! Spot on msn and yes I will include more diagrams as well in future videos!
You should include a disclaimer : no Rangers were harmed during the shooting of this video 😅 Nice to have that diagram : I was already using them aggressively, but the 9" away positioning is adding much more flexibility in case we don't get first turn
Hey PH, another tip top vid. Your use of the battlefield to show how to deploy etc really does help. One question though - what does ‘Giga Chad’ mean?! Obviously, an Americanism!
Haha thanks man I’ll keep the diagrams coming! Giga Chad is a meme to describe the “perfect form” a joke really haha 😂 here’s the definition The term “gigachad” is a slang term used to describe someone who is extremely physically attractive and muscular. The word is derived from the combination of the words “giga”, meaning large or huge, and “chad”, which is a popular term used to describe a good looking man.
When I came back to the game at the start of 10th I struggled a bit with how to use these. In terms of staying power and killing potential they'll rarely earn back their points, unless the opponent ignores them. I kept at it though and kept bringing them in many different setups. 1x5, 2x5 (one with Illic) 1x10 with Illic. The more I used them and learned their tricks, the more of a staple they've become for me. I love Illic, but recently the 2x5 small harassing units to scout/moveblock, or score that deploy/behind enemy lines turn 1 has just become too good to pass up on. You could theoretically even score Capture Enemy Outpost on turn 1 if you play with Hammer and Anvil deployment, which is hilarious. You set them up 9" from the opponent's deployment zone, close to their home objective, hope they don't see through your plans, get turn 1, advance 6 with a fate dice/CP, and bam, easiest 8 points ever scored xD
You can deploy infiltrators anywhere outside 9” from your opponents deployment zone and units. So on turn one when they move towards you, you will be between them and the objective, you can then use your Ranger move to either move backwards in combination with phantasm to get back onto an objective or cover (if you roll average) or move towards them with the Ranger move potentially also blocking other units. If you get first turn you can move the whole 7” of your movement and move in front of opponents blocking them from going forward
Nice rundown! Hiw would you conpare them to striki g scorpions? Are scorpions just worse because they are more expensive in the same role, or do they have any additional utility?
I would say scorpions can do the same thing but a bit worse they are better as a combat unit that when positioned well can put pressure on enemy infantry
Me playing admech: Last remaining Skitarii ranger solos a damaged Wraithknight and wins Me playing Aeldari: Last remaining Ranger reactive moves into the path of a terminator assault squad preventing them from charging a Wraithknight If Ranger in the name, they'll do surprisingly (and hilariously) well
Having just finished the video, the diagrams and explanation make a really great case for including them. I've struggled to get value out of them in the past, but this gives me confidence.
@@byrongotcha Well yes but no. Especially if you don't run Eldrad and need to maximize the outcome of 6 fate dice. But either way he is such a key unit.
and was going to try a guided blob of rangers with illiac into some stuff to see what kinda damage they can do with bladestorm take plunging fire position for potential -3 ap

RIP mighty outcast!! I just picked up another unit myself!
I've been wondering what to do with rangers for a while now and this explains it so well.
Good to hear always happy to help!
2 units of 5 are auto take for me. Scout block, infiltrate block, speed bump. they're mandatory for me.
Absolutely feel the same way!

Exactly how I use my rangers. I also often support the rangers with scorpions.
Nice dude! They work very well with scorps!

The options are endless and a big reason a lot of DE players run triple mandrake!
In the right terrain, 10 rangers with illic and plunging fire is the sauce
Oh it’s amazing!
Where is the rule for ranger blocking? I didn’t catch how infiltrator blocks movement
You can deploy infiltrators anywhere outside 9” from your opponents deployment zone and units. I believe you mentioned at the start of the video that scorpions can be good with rangers. How so? I'm still a relatively new else player. Thanks
Rangers can screen out other infiltrators and scouts allowing the scorpions to grab a good spot to hide with infiltrate 😉

Dude that is so fucking funny!
Do you think it is worth running two or three units? I usually run at least one, but find one is often enough!
I run two units in my army but you definitely want at least one imho
Granted I rolled well I had a ranger unit take out a blood claw unit 😩
Dude sweet!!
Is there anything that can deep strike turn 1? I was under the impression even the skathach can't if we go second
Yes if you go second Hypercrypt and grey knights can
Well if you go second swooping hawks kinda can. Leave field end of opponent turn 1 come back down anywhere your turn 1
Also drop pods can drop turn 1
@@jpshaffer1989 so the skathach can as long as I go second right?
If it goes into reserves after the start of game. I haven't read the rules but if it's like the hawks yes
So what I'm hearing is 3x10 ranger bricks, charge turn 1.
For the memes!!!
Loving the diagrams

Awesome! Can’t explain rangers without showing how they move!
That warms my heart! They really are a good unit, a bag of tricks and trolls really!
Me: just sorted out Rangers for Scorpions. Might trade my guardian defenders for 2 of them 😂
Hey if you don’t need the fate dice 5 of them can screen just as well!
@@ProxyHammer1 Yeah but the Farseer is SO important now and so is his surviving. :D
Especially if running Eldrad. You need that other safe Farseer in order to allow Eldrad to do Branching fate

So-called eldari "rangers" when I charge them with a baneblade on turn 2.
Nice! They definitely did their job then luring the behemoth out into the open!
Not to me!!! I won three games with four rangers swuods!!! What???
Yes!!! Awesome dude!
The outcasts thank you for recognizing thier Gigachadness but now that you know about them well thier going to have to keal you now.
Haha true!! May Kurnous take me!
Ranger body guards wanna engage my fire dragons.... nope
