Weid Film.....But a great guided tour of this bold 60's new town. I feel I know the place already, even though I've never been there in my life...First Gregory's Girl, now this............Absolutely marvelous.
sat here watching this with my mum feeling nostalgic our great family friend had a role in it as harry - campbell godley didnt know of this but was lovely to see a moving image of him he passed away in 92 and used to live in cumbernauld was great to see it like this. thanks for sharing this on here.
Clever referencing of bold Scottish design from earlier eras (The Dunmore Pineapple, a Mackintosh chair) to make the point that there is a tradition of adventurous architecture and design in which Cumbernauld takes its place. When Fenella Fielding goes out for her meal (14:57) she seems to have based her look on Mary Marquis.
everyone appears to think everything was better then than now. perhaps it was. perhaps time rather than place. if it's any consolation, Milton Keynes is the same. druggy odd balls and cracks in all the walls. whatever happened to hope and looking forward? Tim in Essex x
And the debate rages on about what to do with the penthouses which are currently shut off. The only busy parts of the centre now are ASDA, Tesco and the Antonine Centre at the weekend. Grim.
where is the road at 19.46 to 20.16 ????? the a73 hill?? or the a80 ??? or a long shot, forest road before whitelees was built? i just dont recognise it,would love to know
Once the overspill from Glasgow & such found their way to Cumbernauld the drugs problems came with it & the results are crammed into Eastfield Cemetery.......
Most of these actors can now probably been seen walking around the town centre like zombies. It was odd to see a sort of famous actor in a film I’d never heard about, set in my town aswell 😂
The boy flying the toy plane is actually my father.
That's crazy 🤯
The town centre is absolutely unrecognisable! Looks so much better then than now.
"I refuse to lift anything that is heavier than my pay cheque" classic line

And that, ladies and gentlemen is what happens when you write a film script when high on LSD !!
Great shots of Cumbernauld though.

Strange film, but great upload. Great channel. I've watched a number of your uploads in the last couple of days.
Wow the opening scene , with the kids on the “monster” that’s my bit! I lived in the house with the kids shadow on the wall !
@TechArcturian it's Cumbernauld village.

Locally-based actor, Harry Glass, played the postie. His wife was my primary schoolteacher at the original Kildrum Primary.
Wow, the town centre looks a million times better than it does now, what a waste.
Doctor Brown Before out of town retail parks with huge units were a thing. It can't compete now.

Drugs are the cancer of society, I believe you can blame every 'failed' 60s and 70s initiative on them.
Patrick Bradley Geoffrey Copcutt the architect of the town centre used Psilocybin for inspiration.
Fenella Fielding at the start in the purple. She stared in Carry on Dracula in the 1970’s amongst other things.
and ‘carry on screaming’😅
If you press 6, what does he say?
In the ACF WKM VALVE DIVISION my late father was factory manager from the 80s to the mid 90s
Do mourn the passing of Scan bookshop.
Have I just watched a Cub Scout playing on a giant, phallic symbol?
Fenella Fielding! lol

Pineapple at airth
27:06 Badger
I enjoyed it. But it doesn’t make a great deal of sense.
Well now i can honestly say after watching this Cumbernauld town centre looked like a s#it hole even back then before it was even completed.
I would rather the old town centre lol
Can you buy this on dvd???🙏
And where is it now, concrete crap,
Joys of managed decline innit
im still not really sure what this is meant to be lol
What on Earth is going on with this film lol
Jonathan Bain it was really just a promotion for the town. I don’t think they really put much thought into it,
Anything that has to be marketed to the public this way is always a terrible idea.
