    Thanks Eric for another great camera review. I bought an Olympus Pen F 2 or 3 years ago. Fortunately it came with original black leather case, clip-on light meter, books and an f/1.4 lens. I got it professionally CLA'd and it's in great condition except for a small dent on the side which has no effect. Just a little feed back on your video; on the intro to the photos of your children the music comes in a bit too loud compared to the volume of your voice. Thank you from Adelaide, Australia. P.S.Pentax (Ricoh Imaging) are bringing out a half-frame 35mm film camera amongst the others they are releasing.

    I got an FV recently and it is an absolute joy! I have the kit 38mm f1.8, and the 25mm and 100mm f4. The f4s are a little tricky for focusing, but fine in good light. The 38mm f1.8 might well be my favourite lens ever! The close focus distance is about 25cm, it has pretty funky (if not classic), bokeh, and just seem to be super versatile. I even picked up a set of macro tubes, and an angle viewfinder. There's a little clip on meter for the F and FV, and it does work pretty well (at least it's a reasonable way of double checking my sunny 16).
    The 76 shots is a bit of a pain (I've gotten 80!), but there's always the option of 24 exposure rolls, and it's probably the only way I'll ever bother shooting slide film.

      It's a fine camera. Well made and beautiful.I agree that the number of possible pics can be a bit much and the 24 exposure roll is the way to go. I had the Zuiko 40mm f1.4 for Pen-F and it was a magnificent lens. I loved how it renders skin tones. Great bokeh and sharp but organically so.

    My pen fv is my go to camera. I love the lens as well. Its sharp and small. Have printed my scans in a 7x5 and its pretty good

      I actually meant the 40mm f1.4. I don’t think there’s a 50mm for the pen system.

    Thanks. As always a great review. In my opinion the PEN F is one of the most beautiful cameras ever produced. I think the "stiff" film transport is more or less typical for the series. At least the ones on the original F i had and my FT are also quite tough. Also the shutter sound on my FT is rather loud and sharp. So it's not the best camera for street photography. As I had both, the F and the FT at least from my experience the viewfinder on the metered FT is maybe a stop less bright. I never had problems focusing in daylight. So I like the convenience of the meter.

    • @FilmPhotographyChannel
      @FilmPhotographyChannel  6 років тому

      Thanks for sharing your knowledge about the Pen F & FT! I agree in daylight there's no problem at all. Although I never tried it, I've seen these clip on meters that straddle the shutter speed dial like the Leicameter. I do like the horizontal orientation of the viewfinder for street photography but I agree with you that the shutter is a bit loud which isn't ideal.

    • @CertainExposures
      @CertainExposures 5 років тому +1

      S. Schüngel the loud shutter is perfect for keeping a photographer honest 😂. I always wondered how much darker the FT screen was and I can confirm it’s at least 1 - 1.5 stops darker. Daylight is fine but at night I really struggled. Do you have the lens with the EVs? Would you mind. Sharing which aperture is which EV? I assume that 0 = f1.8, 1 = 2, etc but there’s not many photos or much info online.

      Hi man, don't know if you will ever read this but..
      What kind of battery do you use in the pen FT?

    • @Analogfotografie
      @Analogfotografie 3 роки тому +2

      @@daniele3233 Hearing aid batteries (1.4V) work fine. For more convenience I did a diode modification an my FT. This drops the voltage of a normal 1.5V battery down to about 1.4 so close enough for decent results

      It really is an innovative and well designed camera. Looks great too. The lenses are extremely sharp too. I was recently looking at some pictures I took with it and was blown away by how sharp and colorful they were. The one downside is that even with a 24 exposure roll there are so many pictures to take! Typically 48 or 72 frames! That’s a lot.

    I actually find myself using my Pen FT more than my Leica. Prints are plenty good at 7x5 , 8x10 is possible with a good scan and film

    • @CertainExposures
      @CertainExposures 5 років тому

      J w I can confirm this. I bought a pen ft and made a video showing a 5x7 darkroom print (HP5). Looks just as good as full frame 35mm to me. 8x10 looked ok too. I’m surprised you use it more than your Leica though. My struggle with the FT is the dim viewfinder. The original pen F was much more pleasant to use. Even then, the tiny viewfinder size leaves much to be desired for my eyes. I’ve actually been considering a rangefinder with a super large and bright screen for ergonomics only.

    The Pen F 18 x 24 mm negative size is almost the same as an APS-C sensor.
    The standard 38 mm has the same angle as a 57 mm of a 24 x 36 mm camera.
    That is much too long.
    A Zuiko 28 mm would have been the best as a standard optic. ( 1,5 x 28 mm= 42 mm)
    This camera made beautiful slides on Kodachrome 25 ( self framing)

      By almost, you mean a bit bigger or smaller than apsc?

    • @drmoss_ca
      @drmoss_ca 2 роки тому

      If you consider the diagonal size of a half frame (24x18) as compared with a full frame (36x24), the crop factor is 1.4. So the 38mm standard lens is equivalent to a 53mm. The 25mm/f4 was equivalent to a 35mm lens on full frame.
      BTW, "tiniest SLR ever made"? Maybe you never heard of the Pentax 110 SLR?

    This may be a stupid question. But I have never used a film “F” camera. But is the a crop factor with the smaller frame? Sort of what you get with Four Thirds digital cameras.

    • @FilmPhotographyChannel
      @FilmPhotographyChannel  5 років тому

      Hmm, Pen-F gives you a vertical photo which is half the size of a 35mm negative (18x24) so as a result you get twice the photos from a roll. BTW, its the same frame size as a 35mm movie camera! Also, the optics available for this camera are absolutely first rate! Very good lenses.
