You forgot about one of the most innovative features of this game. You DO have a health bar. It's tak's eagle feather on the top of his head. The less health you have, the more purple his feather will be. Once its all purple, tak will die. This inspired alternate health bars such as Isaac Clark's spine tube in Dead Space. Tak was the first game to do something like this where the health bar is ON the character
Wouldn't technically Mario be first since in the game he is the health bar by shrinking? Even innovating in making different amounts of health change the play style? Such as being big allows you to do certain moves while smaller means less options but more mobility and smaller hitbox.
It's sad how Nickelodeon tried making this series a thing by featuring him in the Nicktoons crossover games and giving him a poorly received TV show. But the series just faded into obscurity as a result. It's uncommon we get tribal/jungle-themed media these days.
I own all three games on my Playstation 2. The third game I haven't completed, but I will say, if the whole "Tak" trilogy gets the same treatment "Spyro the Dragon" and "Crash Bandicoot" did, here's some features I'd like to see for all three games. [TAK AND THE POWER OF JUJU] - Play the mini-games with 4 players as a separate feature like the Dinky Games from the sequel. - The scrapped Numa Bay level can be revived, along with its features. - New Juju spells like a Yorbel/Moon Stone detector. - The Chicken Suit's glide speed would be increased to the speed it had in the third game. - A new separate area at Pupanunu Village where you can freely use the Chicken Suit once you've unlocked it. - Replay all the Pins and Needles boss fights, including the Tlaloc final boss. - An exclusive Chicken Suit mini-game that involves gliding and pooping explosive eggs onto targets. [TAK 2: THE STAFF OF DREAMS] - Be allowed to replay levels once you've beaten them once. You should also be able to replay bosses. - A new Juju spell called "Infinite Manna" where you'll never run out of manna during Story Mode. It'll also come into effect for the animal transformations. You can still cancel out of them with a certain button push. - The Dinky Games would be bumped up from two players to four. [TAK 3: THE GREAT JUJU CHALLENGE] - An option to turn off the timer once you've completed the main story. By revisiting a level, you'll be given an option to keep the timer on, or to turn it off. - Replay the Proving Grounds stages.
Everything you said is cool but I have one problem: In a remake of the third game, I wish we could turn off the time limit at any time of the main story because I hate time limits.
I played these games as long as i can remember. my mom played this for me until my hands were big enough to hold a controller and i would ask her to help me with any part i was stuck on. she is disabled and it is my fondest memory growing up. embarrassingly i also played star fox adventure and still actively enjoy it. it was just something me and my mom were able to bond over growing up. i will always remember the multiplayer video games we would play for hours and make funny voices like the characters
Bruh, that’s a really sweet memory. I remember playin games with my mom too. We used to play super smash Bros melee, Wii sports, and Mortal Kombat together.
These games did grow up as my favorites initially, till Kingdom Hearts took over my focus entirely later on. But in my earliest childhood memories, while I did play the original Mario NES games and Crash Bandicoot 1 and 2 growing up... It was Tak that I played the most, having had all 3 on PS2 back then. Funniest memory to me though, was how my mom thought it was a made up game when I told her I wanted it for a Christmas present one year, so she went to Toys-R-Us and basically told the employee "Dunno if my son actually made this up, or not, but... Do you have a game called 'Tak and the Power of Juju'?". The employee surprised her when he basically gave an "OH, yeah, we got it." XD I do really hope a remake could happen...
I thoroughly enjoyed reliving being like 4 years old sat in front of a fat, small screened, static tv with the red, white, and yellow chords all plugged in straight to the tv. Also I loved your video! Great pacing, perfectly thorough, and a soothing voice. Good shit, king
This was a fantastic take on reviewing the Tak franchise. These games are truly special and I think deserve the “Rehydrated” treatment. Here’s to hope for a remaster! Or possibly a representation in Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl! Great video essay overall!
Tak and the staff of dreams, is hands down, my favorite GameCube game, and something that HEAVILY influenced my favorite types of ambience, and game styles.
The series permanently became a part of me when I first played it. An absolute piece of art, from the music to the art style. Thank you so much for talking about this criminally under-appreciated game.
The glitches do exist on the GC version. I remember softlocking my game because some invisible walls weren’t in a certain area and the game auto saved while I was out of bounds.
I remember having so much fun playing the first Tak game as a kid on the Nintendo Gamecube. A beautiful yet slightly melancholy art style. A soundtrack that mixes peaceful and relaxing tones with heart-pumping rock music. And a gameplay style that doesn't strain you to the point where you can't enjoy the music or world design while still providing you with enough action to keep you entertained. I might get back on this game sometime soon and relive some of the good times I had on this game. It nice to see that I am not the only one with fond memories of this game. And I would be absolutely ecstatic if we got a remaster for this game. I mean, hey, we got a remaster of Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. We may eventually see this game get a remaster as well.
WOW. I just finished the entire video, very well done. I grew up with Spyro The Dragon and other games of the 90s like you mentioned in the beginning, but I also played all the Tak games as a kid and loved them! I actually got into game development because of Spyro and I currently run an indie game studio. 3D platforming games were always my favorite types of games growing up, and Tak definitely had a special place for me. I definitely want to go replay all 3 games now!
Also in the game rugrats royal ransome during the snow sledding stage you can see a model of tak on the side of the track, I’m guessing its to tease the game which came out the next year
39:10 THAT, is a result of the additional characters sharing Tak’s animation rig (this includes Lok, Tlaloc, & Dead Juju.) Specifically-Tak’s idle animation.

I've always been a fan of the 2nd Tak game more than the other ones, while I still have the original first one on ps2, the second game is the best. The adventure, the story, the plot twist, to the new abilities, etc. Hoping that they'll make a remastered trilogy of all.
The Tak trilogy deserves a remake! I’m doing everything I can to get the trilogy remade! What if Tak 3 had an alternate ending? Like if it really was a suprise party, and moon juju would congratulate the heroes for winning the challenge. Their favor however they'll prob would've said that they'll throw a party with tak and lok singing their (gaseous) rap and everyone dancing to it and moon juju having to talk with jibolba about lok being the great warrior all along even though she said he wasn't and thanking jibolba for being a great mentor for them then it ends off with the pair doing their high five at the end of their song Then it roles to credits. Not a bad ending hm? (Also i have the whole franchise on PlayStation 2 except for the 4th game)
As a fan of the series (the Tak series is my favorite video game series of all time), I would like to say two things. First, that the 3rd game is my favorite game of all time. The only way I can honestly fault it is the game's idea of a final boss. Believe it or not, while it was just as difficult, I'd say that the DS version had a better final boss. You could say that nostalgia plays a part in why I like it, but I also think that it takes the best parts of the two previous games and adds a ton of fan service on top of that to make it sort of like the MGS 4 (Metal Gear Solid for those that don't know) of the Tak series. It has the improved combat from the second game with a difficulty level that's slightly easier than the first game which is okay with me. Tak 1 had a flawed combat system which made the experience only slightly less enjoyable. Tak 2 (while it has a much better combat system) is almost as difficult as Dark Souls due to just how easy it is to die in that game. I guess what I'm saying is that The Great Juju Challenge, in my opinion, took the best of everything from the 2 previous games to make a really fantastic game (as well as having the fan service, call backs to previous games, and love put in to be, in my opinion, one of the best video game series finale's ever). Second, the TV series isn't as bad as most people think. It was kind of disappointing to see the story, lore, and characters botched in as bad of a way as the show did, but looking at it as sort of a standalone entity, it's actually fairly enjoyable. One of my best friends is also a Tak fan and agrees with that (he actually said that he enjoyed the show), so not all fans of the video game series necessarily hate the show. I will say though that it probably ruined the series' chances of making a true comeback in that era as, for some reason, it didn't register with audiences as well back then and was kind of forgettable to many that didn't play the games (and, in many cases, is the only way they knew of the Tak series at all). On a side note, the two games based on the TV series are worth a look. Mojo Mistake kind of reminds me of more of a Metroid-vania styled version of the original GBA games. It was solid. Guardians of Gross was also decent for what it was. It's a 3D platformer but it's much different from the original trilogy. It's still an enjoyable experience though. I'm just glad that some people still remember these games. I would personally love an HD remaster of all 3 games somewhere along the lines of what was done with the Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series. I wouldn't want a remake like the Crash or Spyro trilogies as each game had it's own unique mechanics and giving all 3 games the same mechanics would kind of suck. Still, a remake over a remaster would be ok as long as they kept the original game mechanics intact and maybe just fix a couple things. My ideal wish though would be just an HD remaster (not a remake) of the entire trilogy with maybe fixing a couple things like giving an option to invert camera and cannon controls, providing checkpoints in between each time you beat the Black Mist at the end of the 3rd game, fixing the bugs in all 3 games, and maybe leveling the combat difficulty in the 2nd game. One more note here is that I think peoples standards on what makes a game good are flawed. I think that the most important part of a game isn't the story, graphics, or sound design, but rather the fun factor and Tak is loads of fun. If Tak was judged on fun factor alone, then, I think, as a series, it's at least a 9 out of 10. Also Flora and Fauna are sisters. Both are the daughters of the Moon Juju.
This review makes me want to play these games. In fact, when I start my sonic tuber channel, I will give these games full lets plays and do commentary with friends. So, Thank you, man.
I love this series with all my heart. I played this series on my GC back in 2005 and the second and third when I got my hands on them. Still my favorites til this day and can also speed through all three games now that I’m older (22 now) and memorized everything. This series will always be special to me and also my cousin, Jennifer Hale, the voice of Flora, enjoyed doing this series as well! When she found out I played this game she flew down to meet me (only saw me once when I was a baby) not knowing that I loved playing video games and me being 7 years old at the time playing the first game was exciting to say the least! Love these games so much and will definitely play it again and again!
You should ask Jennifer if she would come back for a remake or a Tak 4! I’ve been trying really hard to get in contact with THQNordic Avalanche Software even some of the actors because I really want the Tak trilogy to come back for PS5 and Nintendo Switch! It’ll be awesome if you’d ask her and maybe the Tak trilogy can return! #TakandthePowerofJujuRemake
Lmao omg the 2 boarding levels were the best and the most fun levels! Yeah if your going for 100% it would be tedious maybe but definitely not "bad" levels at all..... lol
Lol this game was made 8 days after I was born, I’m watching this because when I played it I never understood it, but since I’m older now, I want to know what the story was even about
really fucking well put together video man this is incredible I also want the series remastered/brought to light again because it is criminally underrated, and im with you on the 2000's era of gaming almost everything in that point had so much creativity, style and love put into them that you dont see that kinda shit in any games these days, i also never knew you could roll in tak 1 i can't believe i never figured that out LMAO
Great vid. Now THQ Nordic has Nickelodeon’s license maybe a rerelease is possible at least for these three, A Tak: N-sane trilogy type thingy :) P.S: HOW CAN YOU NOT TALK ABOUT GHASTFALL’S MUSIC IN TAK 3 ITS SO GOOD????
I would love to ask this one thing about TGJJC. How the actual HELL do you beat the damn black mist tribe?!? In the last challenge 😤😤😤 ?? And Pupanunus people s pancake is something id love to try😋😋
if you want to beat the final challenge, you'll need a higher score. the higher your score, the higher your chances are to win the proving grounds. you can increase your chances by replaying levels more quicker. either that or you just need luck.
Great video! I loved Tak trilogy too and as much as I love to have these games to get remake treatment like Rehydrated now that THQ Nordic & Nick have partnership. I doubt that will happen, rerelease would definitely be nice. Also, you should definitely checkout another underrated 3D platformer series called de Blob 1 & 2 also published by THQ & developed by Blue Tongue before that studio unfortunately shut down after de Blob 2 flopped
Also according to the wiki Fauna is Flora's younger sister and the Moon Juju's second daughter . Vaguely remembering her character due to having the GBA version and her being voiced by Candace Bailey (who I was a big fan of as a kid from U Pick live and Attack of the Show as a teenager) made me decide to look up the series to see if anyone did reviews
Tak and the great juju challenge for DS is the first videogame I've ever had I've never played any other Tak game, but from what I've seen the DS version seems different from the playstation one There are car races, the final battle is a classic boss battle, the soundtrack is top notch and there are some funny minigames
The Tak trilogy deserves a remake and I’ve done everything I can to get there attention! The community needs to get the attention of THQNORDIC Avalanche Software and Nickelodeon! The trilogy is apart of me and we all need to come together to get the trilogy remade!
YOOOOOO I just got Tak 2 and a GameCube memory card for my birthday after my mom said she wasn’t gonna get me anything for my birthday but got me something for Christmas.
I think the Tak 2 dream ending was just a Wizard of Oz reference since they clearly didn't know how to end the game and I recall the transition to a different level at one point also being a wizard of Oz reference. Because you know dreams bro
I Played Tak And The Power Of Juju For PlayStation 2 Nintendo GameCube & GameBoy Advance Tak 2: The Staff Of Dreams For: PlayStation 2 And Tak 3: The Great Juju Challenge For PlayStation 2 & GameBoy Advance My Favorite Tak Game Is Tak 3: The Great Juju Challenge And Also There’s A Song In The Video Game Tak And The Power Of Juju The Song Is Called: Wild One Performed By: Wakefield It Was Also From The Movie: EuroTrip
If I had a nickel for every game I fondly remember from childhood that ends with -ak, I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, But Jak and Tak are still based.

- Be allowed to replay levels once you've beaten them once.
[TAK 3: THE GREAT JUJU CHALLENGE]
- An option to turn off the timer once you've completed the main story. By revisiting a level, you'll be given an option to keep the timer on, or to turn it off.
- Replay the Proving Grounds stages.

This video is just what I was looking for
well im glad you found it.
This review makes me want to play these games. In fact, when I start my sonic tuber channel, I will give these games full lets plays and do commentary with friends. So, Thank you, man.
Thank you for making this, this game is the first game I think of when I think about gaming as a kid with my grandma. Hope they remaster it one day
I love this series with all my heart. Love these games so much and will definitely play it again and again!
thanks for the comment.
also your cousin is jennifer hale? thats awesome! tell her i said hi.
@@beemaisterreviews1623 Will do!
Yeah if your going for 100% it would be tedious maybe but definitely not "bad" levels at all..... lol
Lol this game was made 8 days after I was born, I’m watching this because when I played it I never understood it, but since I’m older now, I want to know what the story was even about
I kinda wish that we actually had to defeat Travis and Bartog (the black mist) in the final boss in TGJJC without cars.
really fucking well put together video man this is incredible I also want the series remastered/brought to light again because it is criminally underrated, and im with you on the 2000's era of gaming almost everything in that point had so much creativity, style and love put into them that you dont see that kinda shit in any games these days, i also never knew you could roll in tak 1 i can't believe i never figured that out LMAO
Thank you so much for this comment.
I appreciate it.
For a time, I seriously thought Ashley Eckstein (The voice for Ahsoka Tano) was the same voice actress for Flora in Tak lol
Bro I wasn’t even sure if these games was real I swore the first game was some sort of fever dream from my childhood😂
They need to remake this
Man I love this game
Great vid. Now THQ Nordic has Nickelodeon’s license maybe a rerelease is possible at least for these three, A Tak: N-sane trilogy type thingy :)
P.S: HOW CAN YOU NOT TALK ABOUT GHASTFALL’S MUSIC IN TAK 3 ITS SO GOOD????
The composers name is Jeffrey Oxborrow
what? thats crazy!
THANK YOU!
Wait really? How do you know that?
This soundtrack got me into music production, so memorable and full of character
that's pretty cool!
@@beemaisterreviews1623 you amazing man!!!!💯💯💯👍👍👍
Saw advertisement of tak on the back of other Nick games. Must have never saw the game at store.
Great video! I loved Tak trilogy too and as much as I love to have these games to get remake treatment like Rehydrated now that THQ Nordic & Nick have partnership. I doubt that will happen, rerelease would definitely be nice. Also, you should definitely checkout another underrated 3D platformer series called de Blob 1 & 2 also published by THQ & developed by Blue Tongue before that studio unfortunately shut down after de Blob 2 flopped
thanks for the comment
the de blob duology is on my review list down the line.
Had the Gameboy Advance version of Staff of Dreams and played the GameCube version at a friends house. It was fun
Tak and the great juju challenge for DS is the first videogame I've ever had
I've never played any other Tak game, but from what I've seen the DS version seems different from the playstation one
There are car races, the final battle is a classic boss battle, the soundtrack is top notch and there are some funny minigames
The Tak trilogy deserves a remake and I’ve done everything I can to get there attention! The community needs to get the attention of THQNORDIC Avalanche Software and Nickelodeon! The trilogy is apart of me and we all need to come together to get the trilogy remade!
YOOOOOO I just got Tak 2 and a GameCube memory card for my birthday after my mom said she wasn’t gonna get me anything for my birthday but got me something for Christmas.
temple of light music was so beautiful
I now own this whole trilogy and I really hope thq Nordic remakes these games
I think the Tak 2 dream ending was just a Wizard of Oz reference since they clearly didn't know how to end the game and I recall the transition to a different level at one point also being a wizard of Oz reference. Because you know dreams bro
The music was very well done.
I consider this trilogy one of the best things Nickelodeon ever produced
appreciate you for this video
thanks
appreciate your for this comment.
How the heck did the completion reward only end up on the PS2 version?
i dont know. maybe they just forgot.
@@beemaisterreviews1623 Wouldn't all versions be made at the same time?

I plan to do so.

I will defend the Tak series
I have all 3 on ps2, oh and a ds one mojo mistake
If I had a nickel for every game I fondly remember from childhood that ends with -ak, I'd have two nickles.
Which isn't a lot, But Jak and Tak are still based.
Tak and the power of trix
i dont get it.
@@beemaisterreviews1623 In this very video, you said that the Yorbles look like swirly trix cereal.
@@HellsChef45 oh.
Tak 2 needs a remake.
Should've put a spoiler warning for the last of us.
well tbh, i thought everybody had played it.
@@beemaisterreviews1623 I own the game on PS3 (It's the version I own that came with the console when I bought it recently. So don't why I own that version specifically) but I was waiting for the right time to play it. I don't know the context of the scene so I can probably still be suprised.
Will you ever do a video on Tak 2?
tak 2 is already covered in this video.
i cover basically the trilogy.
Nice
Thanks
No problem
Really hoping Tak makes it into Nickelodeon All Star Brawl as dlc
Love to see some stage based on a places from Tak universe.
"into stupid helpless sheep" c'mon man
When in doubt, take the stick out.
Tak first and the third game were bad games , but the 2nd one was really good , they should of stick to the gameplay from the 2nd one ,since first was so confusing and tedious and the third one had a stupid damn time limit
I consider this trilogy one of the best things Nickelodeon ever produced
