My wife and I just got back last night from Utah. We visited Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks. The landscape there is much different than the Pacific Northwest (Washington). We even rented an ATV and got in a helicopter ride over Zion. We'll worth the trip to start off our early retirement.

I am sorry to read that you are in a wheelchair permanently. After a mini-stroke during my first craniotomy, I was told I would never get out of a wheelchair. That was in 2010. I have a few experiences with complete loss of tactile sensation and it is the most frightening experiences of life.

1st time I've met Susie. Wow, she kept up with you every step of the way, no complaints and a great sense of humour. She's a keeper, as we say in UK. No you don't look like a golfer lol, you were dressed for a hot hike and looked great! Terrific area you chose and I thoroughly enjoyed watching. Seen those rocks in films and pictures and it was great to see them up close. Yes, I loved Airwolf and Stringfellow Hawke! Great TV. Stay safe guys.

That was a beautiful backpacking trip. I'm enjoying the current series a lot.
If I may be so bold: I'd consider dialing back the "extreme" titles and thumbnails a bit. Authenticity is more appealing than rhetoric, and the content has a much lighter tone than the packaging.
Keep up the awesome work, Luke and Susie. TOGR is a great channel 🍻

It's good to get out and enjoy. One never knows when the day comes that you can't do it anymore. It was my pleasure to move to that area and explore at least once or twice a week for several years. I was in my 20's and early 30's. Now that I'm in my 70's I can remember all the adventures.

31 years of desert trips I see your finding the same joys of the Desert as I found. I never went up to Utah for I was satisfied with the Southwestern Deserts say 100 miles out of San Diego where I lived at the time.. I loved to explore and did find a number of Archeological Sites including old Indian Campsites with Saucers, Pots, Arrowheads and a pair of grass Flip flops they wore as well as Rock Drawings and and a few treasures.. Watching the Video makes me want to make the 28 hour drive to the west... Thanks for another enjoyable video.. A good guess of the Salt you found is proof that an Ocean covered the area, receded and came back at intervals.. I found petrified Oyster Shells and have a 12x12x12 piece of Desert Cement with a clump of over 100 tiny Seashells under it... which again proves the oceans came and the receded..... My hiking partner of many years was a retired Navy Commander who learned about all the stars when he went to Annapolis and kept us entertained at night with nothing move than a pair of really good Binoculars. The Space Station was a regular visitor over our heads...

Thanks for taking us along again. Glad you "Stop to smell the 'cactus'" or take in the views. I was going to ask about the snow but you were kind enough to explain it was salt. Did you have to or did you file a trip plan with the park rangers or those in charge?
Y'all are truly blessed to be able to do what you do and go where you go. Your sharing means a lot to those that can't.
Yes I am still here, you take the time to add the little things at the end, I will take the time to look for them. I could see where the sun and low humidity could take it's toll on the unprepared, glad you hike smart and safe.
Continue to stay safe and God bless.

I really enjoy watching you and Susie. Boy oh boy, you two can really walk. Eish! I feel like I've completed a marathon when I walk to the shop and home. Like 2 kilometers in total. It's an awesome desert place you walked in though it does look very hot there. Gee, someone would need to drag me in a sled like thingmajibs to get so much mileage in. Your country, like ours South Africa 🇿🇦 has wonderful scenery. Mother Nature gave this world such beauty and abundant wildlife and yet there we go...we do our best to destroy it. It's so sad! Have a future of wonderful adventures and cheers 🍻 and hugs 🫂.

I'm not an expert, but I've done a lot of exploring in Southern Utah, and have learned a few things about the geology there. The salt deposits you found once were diffuse elements in the soil. Constant wetting and drying have concentrated the salts and driven them out of the soil by the process known as leaching.
My first time camping in the Valley of the Gods I found what I considered to be a perfect campsite. Yes, it was near the dirt road that people use to see the valley, but there was no traffic so I thought I was safe. Shortly after putting up my tent a rented car appeared and drove right up to where I was camping. It was full of young Germans, all men, and seeing my tent, thought " what a great place to camp". So I had company that night. I didn't want any company, but made the best of it, thinking all that time that in a perfectly empty desert the only humans within 10 or 20 miles seek me out and camp next to me. Worse can happen.

The salt is from times that the inland sea evaporated. The sands and carbonates were deposited when the sea was present. What you see are the cycles of sea-level rise and fall. With evaporation and deposition taking place relative to sea level.

I had a similar injury to my heel several years ago. With all the hiking and backpaking you do it will take a while for it to heal. They sent me to a foot specialist for it. Buy you some heel cushions to put down in your shoe to help it heal with all the hiking and backpacking you do. My dr. gave me one for each heel. My insurance paid for it. It helped. I was doing a lot of walking back than. So it took forever for it to heal. Nice video. Thank you for taking us along with you. I always look forward to the videos from the across country trips you two do every year. You should make a trip to KY one year.

60F is nowhere as hot as it can get. But most folks don't tackle a long tough hike after May. Luke is hanging in there pretty well considering his sore foot. It's always scarier and more dangerous getting back down from something you climbed. What a place to camp at.

Boy it’s been a long time since I’ve been to Bryce, and unfortunately I was nearing the tail end of my 2wk tour from Cali to upper Wisconsin and all points between so I couldn’t spend enough time exploring this utterly stunning canyon. Really enjoying this, thanks!! ( The good news is I’m finally getting back there this fall... God willing and the creek don’t rise, as they say 😄)

Luke the scenery and music you film is really good. The one i watched yesterday with the thunder and clouds and music was seriously captivating. I would not be hiking in a desert without pants on and light boots with ankle support.

Luke, get a lacrosse ball to rub the bottom of your foot. Put the ball under your foot on the floor and move it around gently. Keeeping in mind that gentle massage may ease injury pain but too much will aggravate the the injury.

I think you will find that the correct expression is, “Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun”, which comes from a song written by Noel Coward in 1931, although the original source goes back to 1770 when author Charles Burnley coined the phrase. Nonetheless it still remains true🥵. Keep up the great videos Luke 👏🏼👏🏼🇬🇧
