Hi Si, The broken ornament of a man with a rectangular raised section is a match holder. The match box was pushed over the raised block and the man probably held spills to light the fire, cigarettes, candles etc.
I just watched today's video Northern Mudlarks posted, they found a pig broken off of one of these match strikers, they mentioned they came from carnivals.
What an awesome place, all that history hidden away for a hundred or so years. Going by the things you've already found, I can see you guys wanting to go back there to find even more , cheers Rob for inviting Si and Cuffs, it looks like you all had a great day. The garnet pots are amazing !!!!!
I'd be camped out there all summer diggin' around, what a great spot!, Some of the best times of my life was bottle hunting with groups of friends, we had some old maps for logging camps so found the dumps, great pickings :) you are all so lucky! Cheers from BC Canada and a family of archeologists-at-heart :)
@@Sifinds Absolutely! Now I am old and gimpy but I truly love living such adventures through channels such as yours, the findings are the adventures, if its something special/valuable its icing on the cake :) Cheers from PNW Canada!
Brand new subscriber here from the States. Can't believe I just found your channel. I love everything history. Especially metal detecting, mud larking, dump digging and everything else! That is very cool what your friend is doing with the coins into rings. Also really like the "Victorian Garnet pots" Awesome idea.
Great to see the three of you together larking again. First time seeing Cuff in along time, and the other mate was a quality member also. Great finds by all today. See you on the next, Si! Cheers mates! 😊😊😊
Thanks, Si, you have lifted my dark Sunday afternoon spirits . . . I am a magpie too! The tongs are definitely for putting pieces of coal or logs onto an open fire. I used to be a housekeeper in a large country house, one of my duties was to keep the brass and silver looking in ''tip top'' condition, we had a set of tongs very similar to those you found . . . erm . . but not the condition.
Goes to show there’s enough stuff and materials still in the world that we don’t need to be polluting the planet with plastic to make a lot of new stuff.
Si! So happy you chose garnets to put in your beautifully designed pot! It’s the birthstone of January! My birthstone! Rob’s rings are awesome! What a great day with your friends!
Great video Simon! So many bits and pieces to check through. Wonderful to see friends enjoying the quest for hidden treasures. Have a great week and please keep safe. ❤🇨🇦
One of my permissions has an old pond, normally not visible, but because of all the rain its really obvious at the moment. This video has made me want to hire a digger and clear it out! 🚜 Although there’s also an old stone quarry at the top of the field and I’ve got my suspicions that they buried their rubbish there… only one way to find out I guess! As always, thanks for taking us along on another mudventure ❤️ Lots of love
👍👌👏 Very nice finds while having quality time on a nice day with good companions. Congrats! The rings are really great and the old style decoration on the pot lid is looking simply fantastic! I came here from Dirty Secrets of Scotland. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards, luck and especially health to all of you.
@Sifinds It looked like there was a round pot/vase right in the centre of where you were looking in the pond and then asked if ears felt water logged! looking. I was saying yes there is something there!!!
The pots and your lovely designed labels turned out terrific! A nice day, and Cuffs got you to do the washing up, lol. Rob's rings are great. Thank you for taking us along.
