I think that final comment sums it up. 'If you're worried about putting miles on it then you have already lost'. Thanks for the update, keep it up guys.
Some people have financial worries though. Yes, cars are generally bad "investments" anyway, but a lot of people do keep one eye on the odometer. Not trying to keep a car to a collectors item status, but rather trying not to go over the typical market average, so that they do not get raped when it's eventually time to resale. Love having that junker in the garage fleet, so just going to the grocery story or for sitting in traffic...
Agreed, that really hit home for me. I have a 987 Cayman S and just broke 50k miles. I started to think that maybe I shouldn't drive it as much despite it being my daily. But then I realised that I bought this to drive and have fun in so I shouldn't be worried about the mileage. Whatever price it eventually sells us at shouldn't be a worry for all the fun that it provides. On the plus side, its value seems to be holding up here.
James Min and Helios I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately with Porsches there's all the special editions (GT4, 911R) that become garage queens because of the depreciation with the miles
I just got a 2016 GTS, and I absolutely relate to your experience. I LOVE this car. Mine is an intense PTS violet/fuchsia color (Rubystar), so I know just what you mean about not being able to get away with anything because the car is so very memorable. This is the first car I have ever owned that is not a manual transmission, and occasionally, I too wonder if I made the right choice, but I am constantly impressed with how well the PDK responds/anticipates what the right move is, and I intend to take the car to the track with a PDK expert to really get to know it. I look forward to every drive in this car, and smile very time I see her. I was on the fence for so long about 981 GTS vs 718 S, and I am very happy with my choice. The sound of it makes me giddy…
I'd still have gone with the 6-spd just for the added involvement. But I really like the color of that car. Just not all over the interior as Paul stated.
Love your approach, dialect, speech and vocabulary you use in descrbing your Cayman GTS experience. First time I've come across your videos and I'm sold. I'm also sold on a GTS but still toying between a 981 and a 718 GTS! Keep-up the great commentary.
With the pdk, it seems like you get more performance out of the car, you drive it faster, you can focus more on the road. In that sense, it seems great. But.... I think it's a stretch to say you're not losing anything from an engagement perspective. It is such a different experience to drive a manual. Not a good or bad thing like most idiots on the internet say.... but a stretch to say the engagement is the same in my opinion - different.
The gears are shorter than the manual that's why it feels faster (There are more of them).. Also the gears change quicker.. But for me it's as boring as hell.. Manual all the way.. But again Porsche engineered the gearing too high because they KNOW auto is inferior... Marketing department own Porsche and for that reason I'm out!! PS: Modern cars are all crap.. Too heavy and too controlled by emissions, fuel prices etc..
Hey Paul, just want to commend you on your commentary in this video. You've gotten so much better over the years at describing how a car feels and putting the viewer in the driver's seat. You used to throw around some useless phrases and felt a bit erm... prickish, but not anymore! Good job man, keep it up!
That's what makes him and this channel great. Anyone can go rent a bunch of cameras, then over edit, throw on some annoying high beats per minute intro music, make a logo, throw on a bro hat with the "me too" flavor of the week whatever is "in" styling. It's really the fundamental problem on youtube. Do we really need 19 "5 things I hate about my ____ vehicle?" they all look/sound the same. Then the actual in car driving videos are just stat regurgitation exercises. Throw in the same rolling pan shots and call it a day? This is why I love this channel because like you said, it does a much better job of describing what it's like to actually DRIVE the vehicles in a down to earth way. Fast lane car/smoking tire are also pretty down to earth and useful. Paul and his ways he can describe are def at artistic highs, he could prob be one of those snoody wine snob people and pull off a convincing act, thank god he's doing car stuff instead!
I have mine for close to two years now and drive it every day. Winter and Summer. Love it as it does everything right. The daily commute, the occasional trackday and most importantly the Swiss Mountain Passes. PDK of course.
Paul, there's a reason that my fast car is a wholly unmemorable gray. Black and white are hard to keep clean. Red, orange, and yellow attract law enforcement attention. Blue is gorgeous but as you say, attracts eyeballs. I would break my rule only for British racing green.
Cars are like fine wine. The older they are, the better the experience. A manual is a major contributor to that and will never be outdated. The simplicity and fun factor of a manual can never be replaced, unless you can't be bothered to hone the skill. Traffic arguments are tiring. I drive my stick shift E39 M5 in the 401 (Toronto) traffic, and while any car in any traffic is annoying, the trade-off is worth the involvement and joy of a perfect rev match. The cayman is a car that will always be good to drive with a stick. The PDK has already gone through many revisions and software changes. Dual clutches are like Windows software. You just can't go back to using Windows '95 software when the newer revisions are better. Take the software aspect out of anything, and suddenly you gotta work hard and the fun is endless.
“CPO means that the sales department had to go to the service department and pay to make this a CPO vehicle.” Ummm... No. It means that they washed it, checked the basics like brake pads, topped off the fluids, and included a warranty all for an extra cost to the buyer. No $ changed hands within the dealership. 😉
When you have a PDK, however good it is, you’re often wondering “am I missing out”. Since switching back to manual with my 6-speed Boxster GTS, I’ve never once thought “should I have got a PDK”. Even when you’re spending the day in city traffic, the manual is just an absolute delight.
Spent years driving manuals... I do not miss it in my DCT M4. In the right car, yeah I'm sure I'd still have a blast in a manual. The Cayman probably suits a manual well and I'd certainly go manual if I were shopping for an older Porsche where the alternative is a tiptronic. But man I love the DCT and I think if/when I get a Porsche I'd like the PDK.
I own the 2014 Cayman Base. My second ( 2008 base was first) and put 11k on it the first six months. Just returned from a 13 hour trip from seeing the eclipse and the car was as comfortable as my Mercedes's E 400 coupe. Everytime I drive this car makes me feel so good. The best handling sports car in the world
PDK vs Manual. The ultimate debate. "better car" comment makes me chuckle. I'm happy someone out there was able to give this guy validation that he was desperate for. PDK is less involvement. "am i disengaged" comment is an interesting choice of words. Nobody could successfully argue that pdk=disengaged because that's false, but it's true to say less engaged. Rowing gears is a personal thing, to each their own. For me, manual is more car, more joyful driving experience.
I know you guys weren't too hot on the MK7 Golf R, but so much of what you said in this review about the Cayman GTS rings true about how I feel about my Golf R. I have no doubt it's the best car (new) that I could afford, while ticking all the boxes for me.
One of my favorite cars on the planet. I drove a base 2014 Boxster with just the pdk and the sports exhaust back in 2014. I could not think of a better car to drive. Till this GTS.
Every time i watch a video with you guys, i feel like you two would just be the type to go to a bar, have a few beers and just talk about how much you love cars and why. And it would be a great time.
Thanks for that - What you see here is very much who the guys are. If you are ever in the SLC area, let us know and we'll grab that beer. Glad to have you with us!
Since the Cayman S and GTS are the same 3.4 engine but the GTS is tuned for more power, the better deal is a Cayman S and add a Softronic tune and it would be 360hp for $25k less. If the S already has PDK, sport chrono, sport suspension, and 20inch wheels it’s a no brainer.
Nice review. I have the GTS manual, and I don't care about miles. It will age very well and always give you an amazing driving experience, even if it's to the grocery store.
What a fantastic car - and I love your review on it 👍 I recently got my first Porsche - a 2006 Cayman S manual. It is a great experience - every day ✌️😁
Great review! I feel the same way about my 2016 Boxster Spyder. I special event every time you drive it. I'm continually amazed at the build quality of Porsche being new to them after owning many other sports cars.
I have a 2006 S with 90k miles but she's still like a fast Greyhound. Wants to always go out and run. Big smile even on I10 traffic. Love Cayman S forever.
4:19 "Dont do anything irresponsible or reckless".. Meanwhile, at 2:25, finishes a pass over a solid yellow line, into what looks like a fairly blind corner.
Thanks for proving the point of it still crossing a solid line for his direction of travel... while also ignoring the point of it heading into a blind corner.
Yeah, the passing zone ended just as he was crossing back over, I highly doubt anyone would get pulled over for that. That also isn't a blind turn. Lots of sight lines on that road.
Thank you Paul. Watching your video shows me there are no faults with your car. Who cares about the horn or the display screen. I like your idea of hiding the speedometer of the car. Only fault with that is what to tell the officer who pulled you over for speeding. What do you say to him/her? I don't know how fast I was going as I tapped over the display. They are not going to like that. Anyway keep up the great work.
I mean, honestly, you've got a great car here and we'd love to see more videos starring it. Grab a 911 to compare it to. Hook up a Vbox and show us some numbers before and after replacing the tires. Stuff like that. Oh, and of course, lotus comparison!
I'm really not a fan of PDK. I've driven one of the first gen PDKs on the second generation Cayman and the newer one on the 991.1 GT3. They both feel like they unsettle the car a little bit on downshifts and there doesn't seem to be a "mode" that makes the gearbox do what you want it to do. If you put it in D, the thing just upshifts mercilessly on you (like the engine never wants to exceed 2500 rpm), but if you put it in sport mode, it holds onto gears for too long. Admittedly, being able to leave it in drive with the exhaust valves closed is nice for sitting in commuter hell. Even then, though, I kept finding weird situations where I'd want a little more power, I'd add throttle, the gearbox wouldn't react, so I'd add more throttle, and suddenly the PDK would decide to shift from seventh to third. Suddenly I'd gone from merely wanting another 15mph to screaming down the road at 8,000 RPM with the car howling like a banshee. A little middle-ground wouldn't have gone amiss. Obviously the PDK is a faster gearbox, but I feel like my manual shifts are about as smooth as PDK on average (sometimes smoother), and I just prefer the additional workload of managing the gearbox during any kind of fun driving. It's nice being able to put the PDK cars in D and let them creep their way through commuter traffic un-assisted, but I still think I'd only opt for the double clutch box if I lived somewhere with genuinely awful traffic or ~*really*~ cared about my track times. I'm just not wild about the thing.
I picked up a 2014 Boxster S with PDK this spring (previous car was a 2011 Corvette GS convertible 6-speed manual). My first test drive session included trying a 718 Cayman, 718 Boxster S, then the 981 Boxster S CPO last. I enjoyed all three cars but I knew I wanted to go for the CPO with its flat-6 while I still had the chance. The sound was just completely different on the new turbo cars (in a bad way) and while they had more mid-range punch they just didn't really "do it" for me. Coming from an LS3 car all three of them were slower anyways. I waited 5 days before deciding to buy the 981--most of that time spent debating whether I could really live with paddle shifters. Ultimately I'm glad I caved--this car is still a blast to drive. It gets put into manual mode with Sport+ enabled as soon as I get in. The only true downside is that sometimes when slowing down the car will hit a low speed threshold and downshift on its own at the same time that I'm manually downshifting it, so once in a while I end up going from 3rd to 1st unexpectedly. It's pretty rare, and something I've gotten more used to over time, so not a big deal really. I'm not sure about the GTS cars but the 981 S cars leave a lot of power on the table due to Porsche's artifical power classing (entirely ECU tune-dependent; they rated the Boxster at 315, Cayman at 325, and 911 at 350 yet they all have identical engine configurations as far as my research has shown). For this reason I got an AccessPort & FabSpeed custom tune which was good for about 25-30whp/tq, returning the falsely-lost power vs. the 911. It was a noticeable bump in power and mid-range torque especially. I highly recommend it. Keep on making these videos--the content is great as always!
Pual no matter what you say people still going to think you should have gone with the manual , I belive you saying the PDK is the king of automatics but six speed there's just a lot of street credit especially since there become extinct.
His mounting location is FOOLISH. And, it's illegal in 28 states including Utah. it screams, "Pull me over!" It should be as low as possible for Lidar - cops shoot at the front plate or headlights. The theory that you'll get better radar detection up high is BS. How do I know? I was a police volunteer for seven years and played with hand held and car mounted radar and laser guns for hundreds of hours including running my own car with an Escort Redline against both. The chances of a lidar detector going off soon enough to save you butt is very, very, very, low.
Still remember the drive we had down the 110 to the LAX in your 987! I don't think there's a wrong answer here, but certainly the 6 cylinder Cayman will do a fabulous job at retaining its value. Trying to convince my wife to switch out to a Cayman PDK so I can drive it on the track :)
Question, a new Mazda MX5 ND or a 2011 recon Cayman with 20000km on it? By the way, both are auto as manual is not an option in my country and both of the cost the same beside service and road tax as my country tax based on engine CC
2:28 That sound alone is worth a billion bucks in this convoluted and wayward day n age in the industry. This car's looks also belie it's times; I think it still looks better than the new one (the one with the totally molested and butchered beyond belief excuse of an 'engine') and easily one of the very few Best cars ever made
I've owned a DSG car for a few months now. I've always been a manual guy. DSG is great and actually better in a lot of ways. It's biggest draw back though is when you need to up or downshift more than one gear. For instance 4th to 2nd requires two shifts where a manual can do it in one motion. It also becomes less involved in some instances.
Paul, I hear ya on the back up camera situation. I have one on my 2016 Golf R and love it. It saved me from backing over a toddler whom gotten away from his mommy. Iive right behind a school and I believe it should be mandatory like ABS. The PDK is far superior and I had one on my 08 A4 Sportline. Loved the quick shifts, the rev matching downshifts and blistering speed they produce. I am getting really sick of the stick and the low redline on the R 6500. Yes with my stage 2 clutch, stage 1+ Unitronic and other upgrades I am able to hit 0-60 in about 3.8-4.0 secs. I do like my short shifter from diesel geek but I wish I had purchased the auto. Bay area rush hour traffic is harsh on the left leg.
I'm so glad y'all are brz free. Lotus reminds me of my high school days in a good way. The cayman is a Porsche and who doesn't love em. Definitely potential for good footage
I had a 911 2.4 S 1972 Coupé for over 20 years original state no restoration the engine performed perfect till about 350.000 km then I sold the car in 2000 now these cars are the most wanted Porsche’s these 2.4 S engines 190 HP where amazing 😉
do yo scrape very often? I am thinking of getting a 2014 Cayman S but I am afraid i might destroy it getting in and out of driveways. Having done the review on the wrx, how does the road noise and ride stiffness compare to a 2017 wrx?
Got my pdk 18 chalk gts 6 months ago, more fun and just as fast than my 911 S. I need to drive a flat 6 one day to compare. When I go to car events it steals the show. :)
I purchased a base 981 Cayman PDK and love it. I've already received a ticket driving it so the last thing I want is more power. My car feels plenty fast especially with the addition of a Sprint Booster that greatly decreases throttle and shift lag. I also think that the front of the Base and S are by far the best looking. Personally I think the front of the GTS, Spyder and GT4 look stupid. The thing I don't like is that the sun visors don't slide like they do in an Audi. When the sun is shining through the rear half of the drivers door window you cant slide the visor to block it which is just plain stupid! Argh! There are a few other stupid things but every car has them. The new Audi TT has useless cup holders. The 718 looks and sounds stupid and I'll happily be enjoying the beautiful sound of my flat six each time a dull sounding 718 flies by me. When I think of all the money I saved not buying an S, GTS, Spyder or GT4 it makes me very happy. Since I don't track my car I don't need more power plus I like keeping my license.
I've ridden shotgun in a 991 GT3 around an F1 circuit driven by a quite good driver, and I've driven a BMW M2 with the DCT. Modern DCTs are impressive, and the PDK is easily the best of the bunch, but I would still choose the manual in either an M2 or a Cayman S.
Great review. I know how hard it is to criticize a car you *own*, especially one you really like, but I think you nailed it. Chris Harris owns a 911 Turbo S, but says the 981 S is all the car any human needs. I agree. I bought a 981 S with every performance option available and I think it's astounding. Mine came with the Goodyear F1 AS2s as well; however, I replaced them with Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss and it's like a new (grippier, quieter) car. Plus, there's a tread-wear warranty! My chief complaint is you can't get anything larger than a toothbrush in the car. It's hard to look cool when your golf clubs are in the passenger seat...
ChuckRonin After test driving the 718 and 911 (both turbocharged), I chose the 981 Cayman S. The mid engined NA 3.4 provides a unique driving experience I found lacking in the turbo Porsches. Had the ecu remapped to 364hp, 420Nm, 0-100km 3.89sec.... Super twitchy throttle response and with a custom valved exhaust bypass perfectly validates Chris Harris' observation.
on my second set of pilot super sports (before the new 4s's came out); they don't pick up gravel nearly as bad I believe because of the bi-compound tread build. I once ran hankook rs-3's, those were sandblasters!!!
07wrxtr1 I used super sports before the 4s. The 4s are amazing, they are better than the super sports in literally every way but the biggest leap in performance is in rain. The grip you'll have no matter how hard it's pouring is literally mind blowing . & so far they are lasting longer than my super sports ever did. No idea how Michelin are going to top these, easily the best street tires money can buy, no doubt about that.
*Question for Paul!:* are you doing anything extra for the paint? I've recently discovered an excessive amount of tiny black stone chips and its just getting on my nerves a little. A friend told me there is no point trying to wrap or spend more to protect an already chipped car, instead just save that money towards detailing. Any thoughts?
Thanks for mentioning that the Eagle F1’s throw up road gravel. They come standard on my Focus ST and now I’m hopeful my next set of tires will be nicer to my wheel wells. Thought it was just the car.
I can appreciate the "it wants to go fast" comments he makes. When I had my 1985.5 944, no ones idea of a fast car, I had to actively work to keep it under 85 mph. It was such an odd feeling, it rode and felt better at 100 than at 60.
Curious if your GTS has the optional torque vectoring differential? I haven't seen a good review of this feature. Also, would love to see a back to back comparison on the 718 Cayman S and the new Evora 400. (oh BTY the Evora has a back up camera standard) P.S. Let me know if you are interested in selling the GTS:)
I've got a Boxster S 6 speed and an Audi S3 with the S-tronic DCT. Wildly different vehicles I know, but for the sake of argument i'm going to just focus on the power delivery through the transmissions. Point to point, the DCT is faster and allows you to cover ground with so much confidence you could make a light aircraft jealous. There's just less thinking to do to deliver power correctly, and every shift makes you superhuman. But what you gain in efficiency, you lose in emotion. However, the six speed Getrag gearbox in the boxster should be the benchmark for manufacturers looking to keep 3 pedal cars alive. It delivers a rifle bolt action with every throw, and the slower engagement allows you to savor the change, and the exhaust note. I love both cars and take them both on road trips, but one is a can of spray paint while the other is a paint brush. One is powerful, raw and fast, whilst the other is more careful, and delicate, yet both can ruin your day equally if not respected. There is no right or wrong answer in the stick vs PDK argument, it all comes down to the mere question; do you want to tag the asphalt with the wild glamor of graffiti street art, or do you want smother the asphalt with the emotion of DaVinci's brush strokes. The best answer of course, is to paint with both.
I get Todd's statement at the end. I have that same feeling in my WRX Limited. Part of why I've kept it clean and low mileage is because I want that high resale value. I bought mine new for $30,608 before taxes and fees (stickered originally at $38), and I can trade it now for 29 or sell it for 32. I plan to use what positive equity I have in it in 3 years as a down payment for the next generation anticipatdd Unichassis 2.4 DIT STi. And so I have this loathing feeling in me that this car (which was a dream car to acquire as a boy from a poor family) is another stepping stone. But the other half of me refuses to beat on it or mod it because if I break it, I'm SOL. It's my only car. I can afford to fix and maintain it as I go, but if I blow the engine because of a poor flex fuel tune. But that's not to say I don't get my way with this car. I just keep in mind I don't have to beat the firewall all day everyday. But I look forward to trading this up for the anticipated STi. But I'm also contemplating keeping this and getting a Cayman with the Manual. Perhaps it's out of my price range considering what else I'll be expecting to buy or save up for around that time, so maybe I'll find a beat to shit 350Z but I want a used Porsche. I wanted my WRX new because WRX Owners are not reliable owners, but 350Z? Why not. Beat on it, break it, Jerry rig it, continue to beat on it. Idk. It sucks having the car you want and not being able to drive it exactly as you intended because of responsibilities. I get close. Just never close enough.
Sharod101 live in the moment. Enjoy that you've made it to the goal you've set for yourself and drive the shit out of your wrx. When you're ready, you'll step up and enjoy the next best car. It's way too easy to get car envy and not appreciate what you have.... I do it too so this is partially advice to myself
I purchased a '19 Boxster GTS to get rid of the guilt associated with putting miles on my '96 993 Cab. Not at ALL sorry. This car is fantastic! Love the sound and power/torque. No remorse.
Drive the shit of out it Paul. I have owned a 14 cayman s for 24 months and have put 65000km on it. I recommend a Cobb tune. And I recommend doing the single greatest upgrade I've done so far: Removing the smaller secondary spring from the gas pedal. Stock feel is way too stiff. Makes modulating the throttle a dream.
Watch Pronometer I've had my 14 Cayman s for 36mths, now have 41000km. Did the COBB ecu Protune and get 364hp, 420Nm, 0-100km 3.89sec. Am I happy?? You betcha!!!
Which road do you drive on? You said it’s your favorite driving road. It’s always in your videos. It’s the road with long sweeping turns, pine trees and occasionally streams. I’d like to drive there when I have a chance to visit UT. Thank you!
Torn between getting a M3 E92 or a Cayman 987 or 981 S. Car will be daily driven. Which one would you go for? I've driven both (on road) and the M3 felt much faster yet more comfortable.
hello I have concern about the buy Audi s4 2005 whit 87.000 miles.on the dealer approved the credit only need go to sign the papers tomorrow. only to owner is in the fiuza delaer.please is good buy or have many problem .thanks from orem.ilove yours videos.
What a beautiful car! Not to mention the performance, I really like the elegant blue color. By the way, what happened to the Everyday Driver Car Debate Podcast? I have long been waiting for the update! I am looking forward to new podcast materials as well.
The podcast hasn't gone anywhere... Still twice a week. Tues/Fri. We are on PodcastOne now instead of Shout Engine. There was a couple of outlets that they don't push towards if you are an Android user, can't remember which ones.
Those stock V1 suction cups are horrible, you can get a proper adjustable holder on amazon that's makes all the difference. Were you considering older GT3?
I think if you just drive it for 5 or 6 days a month, yes - but if you are near a city or even in a city or also take it out more often (maybe as a daily driver), manual is just not the state of the art anymore.
Yep, should have gotten the 6-speed. I had a '14 Cayman S with PDK & missed the engagement big time. You can't even rev it unless you pull both paddles in at the same time & that only works at snail speeds. As advanced as the PDK is, it is not engaging without the 3rd pedal. By the way, I've owned (2) Caymans & drove a PDK for 3 years. I have more fun in my 6-speed BRZ now with more features, including a backup camera for a 3rd of the price.
What do you think of the steering on the 981 vs the 987? I have a 987.2 and would consider a 981, but I drove a 718 and thought the steering was meh... very dead feeling. Your thoughts?
bbpleg haven't driven a 718 but I had a 981 gts for 33k miles before it was totaled by an 18 wheeler... steering feel was amazing in my opinion but that's all relative of course.
techmaster777 Ok fair enough :) What did you have before and what do you have now? Just curious what you're comparing to... I know Porsche have the best steering perhaps besides a lotus or something low volume, but they did get a lot of flack when they went electric
Nice vid especially with you having also owned the 987 and without all the fluff and filler of the longer features. I love how the new 718 looks compared to these, but weary of the new engine noise already coming from a really muffled Porsche (996TT).
All of that makes complete sense, but you have already lost...
I added many km to my 230'000 km 964 today. Couldn't care less.
James Min and Helios I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately with Porsches there's all the special editions (GT4, 911R) that become garage queens because of the depreciation with the miles
The man at the country club with the GTS 6-speed was a gentleman. The 6-speed is the correct choice.
Dude trying to talk himself out of buyer's remorse. Sad.
@@maxxweber4336 It's that hard to believe not everyone has a massive hard-on for manuals?
@@maxxweber4336 automatics with padel shifters are the correct choice
Yep. But lol, 1:00 what the hell is that thing???! It's terrible xDD
@@Matthew-nl9kd I am always amazed by how many only want to steer instead of drive. Lowest common denominator I suppose.
FINALLY! Feels like years since the last video on Paul's GTS. Such a beautiful car.

I'd still have gone with the 6-spd just for the added involvement. But I really like the color of that car. Just not all over the interior as Paul stated.
i agree. the interior would be a lot better without the blue bits. its just too much.
Same here. It wouldn't even be a question for me. I understand the level of engagement can be debated, but for me, it's no debate.
Love your approach, dialect, speech and vocabulary you use in descrbing your Cayman GTS experience. First time I've come across your videos and I'm sold. I'm also sold on a GTS but still toying between a 981 and a 718 GTS! Keep-up the great commentary.
i drove both last week the 718 is clearly the better performing car but still i would get the 981 just because of the way better sounding engine
Oh, get off it. The only thing Paul focuses on is the Valentine V1 in his line of sight.
@@MagicAyrtonforever Maybe we should all come back to horses?! :) Just kidding :)
PDK of course.
slaWterCH your channel rocks!
Thanks a lot! I enjoy making videos for it.
I'd wake up in cold sweats knowing I can not heal and toe and blip the revs when changing down. The manual owner was being kind
“CPO means that the sales department had to go to the service department and pay to make this a CPO vehicle.”
Ummm... No. It means that they washed it, checked the basics like brake pads, topped off the fluids, and included a warranty all for an extra cost to the buyer. No $ changed hands within the dealership. 😉
Rob L. You’re damn right. And they put it through the crappy automatic car wash. At least the buyer gets a decent warranty out of the CPO.
They used Porsche OEM parts if the replaced any. We did that all the time at Mannheim for our CPO VW, Porsche, and Audis
The best handling sports car in the world
Looking at purchasing this exact car. I'm torn between this car and a few others.
Tyler Peck what were your options and what did you get in the end? And how does it drive like?
Rarely Replies you have no idea how true this statement is.
What a fantastic car - and I love your review on it 👍
I recently got my first Porsche - a 2006 Cayman S manual. It is a great experience - every day ✌️😁
Morten Berg congratulations man, I just got a 2008 base Cayman with the 5 speed manual and I am loving every mile.
For me driving old cayman was the most underwhelming experience ever... 245hp felt more like 150 honestly, and interior felt like toyota.
So glad I didn't bought it and took 86 turbo.
Great review! I feel the same way about my 2016 Boxster Spyder. I special event every time you drive it. I'm continually amazed at the build quality of Porsche being new to them after owning many other sports cars.
"Drivin for sake of driving" what a speech!!!
Look again, it was a passing zone for him then switched to a passing zone for the other lane as he moved back over.
Thanks for proving the point of it still crossing a solid line for his direction of travel... while also ignoring the point of it heading into a blind corner.
Yeah, the passing zone ended just as he was crossing back over, I highly doubt anyone would get pulled over for that. That also isn't a blind turn. Lots of sight lines on that road.
thought the same at this moment
Agree
Lotus comparison in a youtube comment: "The Cayman feels like a limo - and that's a good thing."
Did I spot a little yellow skittle at about 40 seconds in the corner?
Stunning Porsche
“As soon as I get precious about this thing. I don’t want to put miles on it. Games over. I’ve lost” ❤️🙌🏾👏🏾🔥
Been waiting for this one. Great review.
Would have loved it if you actually honk the horn for us to hear when you talked about it.
Pual no matter what you say people still going to think you should have gone with the manual , I belive you saying the PDK is the king of automatics but six speed there's just a lot of street credit especially since there become extinct.
EverythingJailbreak Pro , who’s Pual?
I'm thinking of getting my first cayman wish me luck!
same. thinking of getting a used gated boxster tho. did you end up getting yours?
Make it the GTS m8. Worth every last dime
Noticed the position on that Radar detector, any differences in having it up high compared to having it low when encountering Lidar?
His mounting location is FOOLISH. And, it's illegal in 28 states including Utah. it screams, "Pull me over!" It should be as low as possible for Lidar - cops shoot at the front plate or headlights. The theory that you'll get better radar detection up high is BS. How do I know? I was a police volunteer for seven years and played with hand held and car mounted radar and laser guns for hundreds of hours including running my own car with an Escort Redline against both. The chances of a lidar detector going off soon enough to save you butt is very, very, very, low.
I have one in my driveway, also drive a 911 pretty impressive. Always a joy to hop in and go for a quick drive
This car's looks also belie it's times; I think it still looks better than the new one (the one with the totally molested and butchered beyond belief excuse of an 'engine') and easily one of the very few Best cars ever made
As an owner: this is spot on!
My BRZ is still around, it's Todd's FR-S that is gone.
I had a 911 2.4 S 1972 Coupé for over 20 years original state
no restoration the engine performed perfect till about 350.000 km then I sold the car in 2000 now these cars are the most wanted Porsche’s these 2.4 S engines 190 HP where amazing 😉
do yo scrape very often? I am thinking of getting a 2014 Cayman S but I am afraid i might destroy it getting in and out of driveways. Having done the review on the wrx, how does the road noise and ride stiffness compare to a 2017 wrx?
Got my pdk 18 chalk gts 6 months ago, more fun and just as fast than my 911 S.
I need to drive a flat 6 one day to compare. When I go to car events it steals the show. :)
This guy gets straight to the point, love it.
Been waiting a while for another video on this GTS... enjoyed this video and look forward to more Porsche videos.
Such a visual and audible beauty.
Don't aggressive summer tires just *do* the gravel toss? I have Conti ExtremeContact Sports, which are not super-crazy, and they do the same thing.
yitznewton what's the gravel toss.
LegendInThaMakin in the video, Paul mentioned how the stock tires pick up and fling gravel from the road surface.
yitznewton odd, I use Michelin pilot sport 4s and I don't have that problem.
on my second set of pilot super sports (before the new 4s's came out); they don't pick up gravel nearly as bad I believe because of the bi-compound tread build.
Paul, I love your Last line in this video. It’s Such an Event! Every time you drive it. I am going to use that if you don’t mind. ;)
*Question for Paul!:*
are you doing anything extra for the paint? I've recently discovered an excessive amount of tiny black stone chips and its just getting on my nerves a little. A friend told me there is no point trying to wrap or spend more to protect an already chipped car, instead just save that money towards detailing. Any thoughts?
ZDY get the car paint corrected, ceramic pro and full ppf on front end
Watch this again, and every time Paul says "precision", drink. :)
Ahhh, lots of lovely H2O hydration. Thanks! =)
Thanks for mentioning that the Eagle F1’s throw up road gravel. They come standard on my Focus ST and now I’m hopeful my next set of tires will be nicer to my wheel wells. Thought it was just the car.
But that’s what sticky tires do. Otherwise slap on some wack all season tires and say goodbye to grip
I can appreciate the "it wants to go fast" comments he makes. When I had my 1985.5 944, no ones idea of a fast car, I had to actively work to keep it under 85 mph. It was such an odd feeling, it rode and felt better at 100 than at 60.
I've had potenzas and now continentals. Trust me, the gravel noise does not go away!
In the market for a Cayman S, preferably a 981. I wish you went more in depth as to why the manual GTS owner felt you had the better car.
As soon as the new Corvette comes out these will drop in price substantially. Can't wait! I want one in the $30-40k range
i hope so. The new vette is realistically out of my range and ill have to wait 5 years for a used one, but a 30k car would be great while waiting!
*I love my GTS. Overpriced but* I enjoy every moment of it. Unless I am parking or need to use the nav...im sure everyone can relate to those 2 things
I don't understand the issue with the horn. What's wrong with it? Hard to press, sounds bad? Confused
Agreed - probably more satisfying than GT4 because you can exploit the potential of the car more fully on the road, and it's more discreet.
thanks for the update. how's performing the alcantara interior after a few years?
Well said. Good job. There's that fine balance between driving it all the time and garaging it.
9000Redline easily the m3.
I'd much rather own an m car than a low end Porsche. Plus the m3 sounds better & has back seats & revs to 8200.
Good to see an update! Have the tires flung actual gravel and debris onto the body, or is it just in the wheel wells?
Anyone know what colour blue this is called?? Cant see anyone mentioned it and dont see it available as option now on Porsche website
Sapphire blue
Are the tail lights better looking on the 2018 Cayman?
Carlos Contreras i think so imo
Now that you mentioned, I have never used the horn in my 2010 Cayman S over 3 years of ownership!
Great review. Can't believe it doesn't have heated or ventilated seats. Must for me. Going to get one with ventilated seats.
hello I have concern about the buy Audi s4 2005 whit 87.000 miles.on the dealer approved the credit only need go to sign the papers tomorrow. only to owner is in the fiuza delaer.please is good buy or have many problem .thanks from orem.ilove yours videos.
That Orange Boxster at the end! Where do I find more on that??
What a beautiful car! Not to mention the performance, I really like the elegant blue color. By the way, what happened to the Everyday Driver Car Debate Podcast? I have long been waiting for the update! I am looking forward to new podcast materials as well.
The podcast hasn't gone anywhere... Still twice a week. Tues/Fri. We are on PodcastOne now instead of Shout Engine. There was a couple of outlets that they don't push towards if you are an Android user, can't remember which ones.
Great news! Thanks. Please keep up the great work!
Where are you driving in Utah? Near Heber City and Park City?
Those stock V1 suction cups are horrible, you can get a proper adjustable holder on amazon that's makes all the difference.
Were you considering older GT3?
Paul - you are so getting a 911 soon. I can feel it :)
I wish I could get a Cayman but due to my driveway elevation, it would bottom out somewhere... I would always get scrapes from my Infinity Q50.
Having two aircooled 911s I get asked alot why I keep daily driving them. My experience is that problems occur if they just sit. That said, YOLO...
It doesn't have a reversing camera because the guy who bought it new didn't bother to pay for it. Painted slats however...
As DD, I MIGHT give the nod to the PDK. But for a fun, weekend car, manual wins for me, hands-down. I feel much more connected to the car with a MT.
Did you sell it? Where is update #3?
Were you at Wide Open Wednesday yesterday, per chance? If so, what were you driving? I think I saw you from afar, but never saw you on the track
+Lucas Tucker - Yes. Todd was doing WOW+ laps in his Lotus.
What do you think of the steering on the 981 vs the 987? I have a 987.2 and would consider a 981, but I drove a 718 and thought the steering was meh... very dead feeling. Your thoughts?
bbpleg haven't driven a 718 but I had a 981 gts for 33k miles before it was totaled by an 18 wheeler... steering feel was amazing in my opinion but that's all relative of course.
techmaster777 was it hydraulic or electric?
bbpleg Honestly I have no clue, didn't look much into the technical specs of the steering. However it handled brilliantly and steered precisely to me
techmaster777 Ok fair enough :)
What did you have before and what do you have now? Just curious what you're comparing to... I know Porsche have the best steering perhaps besides a lotus or something low volume, but they did get a lot of flack when they went electric
bbpleg I used to have a 2010 Mercedes E550 before, and now a Charger hellcat
Will you be testing the 2017 Honda Civic Si?
Can you stream your podcast on UA-cam? Thanks
The '07 Cayman is the best one they've made so far. Although the new ones seem pretty interesting
Nice vid especially with you having also owned the 987 and without all the fluff and filler of the longer features. I love how the new 718 looks compared to these, but weary of the new engine noise already coming from a really muffled Porsche (996TT).
Does anyone know what's mounted on the middle of the windshield?
