I grew up as a kid listening to the Beatles etc...and played in rock and roll bands as a teen youth....and I just LOVE THIS MUSIC SO SO MUCH ....I feel it in my heart ...I cry whenever I hear the Corries sing these old songs....(so many of the Scot's songs are so sad)......so beautiful, it touches me right into my heart.... perhaps I had some ancient connections of my ancestral past to the Scots....because I sure do identify with these songs...The way the Corries sing them is truly magical too...It would be so GREAT if a couple young guys in Scotland, who were good singers too, were to take up the guitar and learn all these old songs , and continue this wonderful traditional sound to keep it alive....and not let it fade into the mists of time....

They marched through there to get to Killiekrankie but all you see of Killiekrankie is the town sign in the video. The clip is great, just the same. My ancestors were Irish. They fled Co. Fermanagh in 1840 for Australia. Even though I am 4th generation Australian, the old country is like a mother, calling me home. My heart and soul belong in Ireland.

I'm completely English and grew up as a fat little kid with an English accent just North of Glasgow: it didn't make me popular, but it taught me me never to judge people on anything but their capacity for compassion. I also absorbed a love of language, an anarchic passion for life, a sense of social justice and - possibly - a certain sentimentalism. I should probably judge all places equally, but Scotland will always be deep in my soul and the source of much of the best in me. Charlie didnt crack. It was, as usual, a squabble among the Chieftain's at Derby! Charlie wanted to keep going, they said no and went up to Culloden. Where once again, another squabble over who would get the side of honor in the rank's which ruined any advantage to be had. This is why those men stood there for an hour until one of the Chieftain's officer's had had enough and charged. And I'm positive Charlie was forced to leave by his loyal staff.
There are plenty of musicians still playing this type of music (myself included). Please try and get your local publicans to book more of this style - there are enough places catering to the BS music that seems to be in vogue nowadays.

I'm 79% Scottish 13% Irish and the rest Welsh. Scotland and Ireland are geographically very close. Over the years and for a variety of reasons we have crisscrossed from both lands. My maternal Irish line descends from the Kerrs/Carrs of Donegal who left Ireland for Scotland before the 1841 Census. The mother is dead youngest is 8 months old. Settled near Nitshill in Glasgow Ellen/Helen was my great great grandmother. Her Father and brothers went down the mine. Her Father died aged 72 in a Mine Accident. A pit carriage ran over his person. She had my great grandmother Margaret Leitch/ Kerr/Carr and never married her Father Archibald Leitch. She was the only child of both parents. It's all on my maternal side our Irish clan. West of Scotland Ayrshire, you are likely to have Irish ancestors.

I used to know about the highland clearances, dreadful as they were but... I came to Australia 20 years ago and soon found out that some of our forebears driven from their homes, came here and behaved at times worse than the English troops of yore with the indigenous nations.

From what I hear, the only intrusion by Saxon's,(Germanic's), was only up to Northumbria. They suffered a bad defeat at the hand's of the Gael's.

Scotland loses nothing from leaving the union, we will raise our own taxes and keep all our wealth. Right now Scotland puts 55 billion pounds into the British treasury we are then given a wee allowance of our own money back which we invest in free university fee's, primary/secondary education, free prescription fee's, and our police force, and we can do this with the scraps Westminster deem to give back to us. Just imagine what Scotland could do with all it's wealth.

Don't talk rot. It was the Lowlanders who fought the English for centuries. It was mostly the towns, villages & farms on either side of the border which were repeatedly ransacked & razed to the ground & where Scottish & English armies murdered enemy civilians. As a general rule, Highlanders fought each other, they fought in Ireland & they fought Lowlanders. There was even a Lord of the Isles who allied with the King of England against the King of Scotland. There were of course exceptions to

I'm 79% Scottish 13% Irish and the rest Welsh. Scotland and Ireland are geographically very close. Over the years and for a variety of reasons we have crisscrossed from both lands.
My maternal Irish line descends from the Kerrs/Carrs of Donegal who left Ireland for Scotland before the 1841 Census. The mother is dead youngest is 8 months old. Settled near Nitshill in Glasgow Ellen/Helen was my great great grandmother. Her Father and brothers went down the mine. Her Father died aged 72 in a Mine Accident. A pit carriage ran over his person.
She had my great grandmother Margaret Leitch/ Kerr/Carr and never married her Father Archibald Leitch. She was the only child of both parents. It's all on my maternal side our Irish clan. West of Scotland Ayrshire, you are likely to have Irish ancestors.
