- Some of the records I bought from a Craigslist offer. All I had to do was meet a guy at his indoor storage unit. Turns out it was actually legit and these were on average around $5 each. Early Tori Amos, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Paul McCartney, R.E.M., Billy Idol, Duran Duran, and more...
The original version of Trust In Me is from the first Disney Jungle Book, when Kaa the python is hypnotizing Mowgli. Great stuff!
My aunt just gave me her record collect. Unfortunately I’m the only one in the family that actually gives a shit about them anymore lol. But, she was in her 20s throughout the 80s so her collection is everything I would never buy myself, but love nonetheless. Things like Flock of Seagulls self titled, Cyndi Lauper - she’s so unusual, Duran Duran - Rio, The Power Station, The Fixx - reach the beach, The Human League - Dare etc.
It really rounds out my collection, cause the Rock, R&B, jazz/funk/fusion categories are well covered lol
Why is Robert Fithen's YT videos among the very, very best? The stripper story about "Pour Some Sugar" is absolutely priceless, for one example.
Thanks!!
Thanks for getting me into Siouxsie and the Banshees, never got into them until now!
“Fables” is my favorite REM album
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend Robert ❤😊
I like parts 2, in fact I hate it when there's no part 2, why would anybody make part 1 of anything and never do part 2, or 3 or 4 for that matter? Anyway, great video Robert! 😊
You should do a video about groups and solo singers that went too mainstream from how everyone originally liked them and how it almost ended up destroying their careers because of it
Nice 80's overview, and some overlap with my own collection. I thought I was the only one with the Bachelor Party Sdtk! A great movie that takes me back to college days. Siouxsie, Big Country (I concur with that remix), Duran Duran all great finds 😎🎶🎸
Great haul. Speaking of Helter Skelter covers. Pat Benatar's version is pretty good imo.
Had no idea that David Lee Roth's first solo record came in Spanish learn something new every time I watch your videos also if you don't like that big country remix version I'll buy it from you big fan of 12-inch 80s remix versions
I love Sonrisa Salvaje. The Spanish is hilarious in parts but they did thet best they could to fit the translations to the groove. Great find, wish i get my hands on a copy! Dog would be Perro Salvaje as in Wild Dog :),
You would have laughed at the Spanish that one of the professors who used to work with us used. He was fluent but had the most country accent (we're from NC) when he spoke it, and it used to crack me up! 😂
Beetlejuice totally holds up &, of course, you should absolutely watch it again! Its soundtrack is actually kinda' infamous because the music is iconic Elfman oompah stuff... but its speed is fast enough that *when an orchestra tries to play a signature Beetlejuice piece, the tuba & trombone players have a really difficult time trying to do all those two-beat rhythm bleats* for as long as he wrote them. Danny says that he's had more than one conductor give him grief about it.
I'll probably watch it again soon.
Weirdly enough Billy Idol had a small role in Oliver Stone's The Doors (1991), so maybe that's the connection with his L.A. Woman cover...
I forgot he was in that.
hysteria is a masterpiece. would love to have it
I definitely think after a certain point Deaf Leopard went to mainstream
Eat em and Smile was a great album! Duran was good. Omg, Kaleidoscope was one of my first punkish, goth, psychadelic vinyl finds! First album I listened to on acid as well. Yay, REM! Also love Lifes Rich Pageant. Rock the Cradle was awful!
"Beetlejuice", that's Lauren Boebert's favorite soundtrack.
You're so right about Siouxsie doing Strange Fruit. Thats so wrong in so many ways...😞
Thank you! I'm glad someone agrees.
I think Juju is the best Siouxsie & The Banshees. I've got both Tinderbox and Looking Glass on vinyl and Peepshow is the one I want to find on vinyl, as it was actually my entry point to them.
"Peepshow" is where I started too.
im with you on "pour some sugar on me" hated it from day one
There's a lot going on here, but good to see some of my absolute favorite albums. You are not entirely incorrect on any of them.
Agree with you on your take of Idol's Charmed Life compared to Whiplash Smile. WS is my favorite album of his. He and Steve Stevens created a killer album front to back. Atmospheric is a good description of CL.
Hey Robert! Great storage space score. Love the videos. I was a serious hair metal hater but love your videos. I’ve got every REM through Automatic For The People. I don’t listen to them much anymore as I played the shit out of them back in the day but great stuff. Thanks for the great videos.
Tori hit the peak with Little Earthquakes. learned a lot of the songs in 92.
i dig Kiss them for me by Siouxsie. she soars over everything
I used to go to the Venture in Festus.
That’s where I bought my INXS Kick album and Licensed to Ill.
After shopping we’d go to Bonanza across the street lol
Alton and Fairview Heights were mine.
Billy Idol was to attempt Velvet Underground - Heroin on Cyberpunk. Another huge misfire.
.
I like the little red container at the back, totally 80s!
Grat video! And pour some sugar on me is the worst song ever!! Up there with turn up the radio and the final countdown and anything from winger !!
Ha! I've been meaning to watch Part 2.
I believe I have to reason for the spine on some of the albums are damaged. I had a cat years ago that loved to use my albums on the bottom shelf as a scratching past. I had my records in plastic sleeves so they didn't get as badly damaged. It was probably months before I noticed it, but the damaged had been done already. The damage is exactly like yours.
The exact same thing happened to me.
I have both Eat'em and Smile and Sonrisa Salvaje
Okay handsome, I see you..the hair is so cute! Miss you on Instagram!
Life and How to Live It is great from Fables of the Reconstruction. I think they just reissued that - out at end of May
I LOVE the Duran Duran debut. To The Shore is the track that was kept off both US editions of it. That's a cool song. It is between Anyone Out There and Careless Memories on Side 1. Careless Memories is one of my favorite DD tracks.
I can't picture Macca being angry. Even on Helter Skelter he doesn't sound angry, just kind of manic.
Speaking of Helter Skelter and Siouxsie, The Scream is a great album! Admittedly, the covers album sounds cool.
Sweet shirt
I hardly ever see SATB records in the wild. The first DD record is another one.
Yeah I go record hunting for those types of albums and outside of a few times never see anything like it. Instead I see albums from people like Jim Nabors, Liberace, Boxcar WIllie and Lawrence Welk. Not that this music is bad, not my style.
Hey Robert! Ryan here again. I wanted to ask you a technical question. I have two Audio Technica tables running through two vinyl pre-amps directly into a PA system which go into two big ass early 90’s era speakers which were originally used for my indie power pop bands. The system cranks but can also be quite temperamental. Playing records through this I’ve noticed the differences in recording levels and styles of vinyl records. I played my roommate some Minutemen the other day and followed with The Sun Always Shines On TV by A-Ha and had to immediately turn the low channel down and the high up to get it sounding right. Have you experienced this or know anyone who runs their shit through a PA? Please let me know. Love the channel and never miss a video. Rock On!
"A sonrisa dog got a hold of this"
Were you trying to say a wild dog (un perro salvaje)? "Sonrisa" means "smile" in Spanish 🙂😂
There's one rather annoying girl in my theatre company who likes to sing all the time. I might ask her to sing "The One I Love" and see if she gets in trouble for it 😂🔥
Y kant Tory read I kind of like because it's totally left field from what Tori Amos what do in the 90s and I love heart attack at 23 from that album because Tori would never rock that hard again in a very strange way it's how I feel about Michael Bolton's everybody's crazy such an outlier album but totally enjoyable in my humble opinion 😊
I still have the vinyl of the "Caddyshack" soundtrack. Digitized it recently, it times out a little less than a half hour. Also have the "Bachelor Party" LP, but haven't digitized it yet.
Siouxie and the Banshees cover of Trust In Me is the song the snake sings from the Disney film The Jungle Book.
Had no idea about Tori Amos being in a band with Matt Sorum. Crazy. I'm looking forward to part 2. I don't know why there would be a decline in viewers. Hell, I'm still waiting for you to wrap up the horror movie list. You did great on those.
0:40 WOW. Excellent find. Southern Georgia estate sales are disappointing in the vinyl department.
OMG you don't like the 12" extended remix of "In a Big Country"?? I was always super excited when it got to the final part of the dub echo with the drums behind it. I'm pretty sure I requested that one a few times when WLIR played it
I’m here to tell you…you were most definitely not the only person to hate Pour Some Sugar on Me the first time they heard it
The original Duran Duran debut album has a song called to the shore. It was replaced by Is there something I should know on the 83 version. Different cover art as well.
It was never on the U.S. version.
Bachelor Party, Used Cars , Hollywood Knights were movies if you watch today, you
Forgot how filthy ( and funny) they were
I'm pretty sure that Billy Idols cover of LA Woman had something to do with him being in the doors movie? I think he was originally meant to have a decent role in the movie, but had his bike accident. His book is an excellent read BTW.
I forgot about him being in the Doors movie.
I agree abou Pour Some Sugar.. but Hysteria is my favorite Def L album.
You’re right I had the single lp og version and it was pretty bad . I sold it and got the 2lp reissue. Sounds great.
Well, I guess I got my Billy Idol question answered about the labels. That sucks they screwed it up. Then again, wasnt Vital Idol a normal label as well?
Speaking of weird mixes on albums. I found a 12" of Burning Down The House, that the 2 extra songs on the record are the cassette versions of them. Which I believe is what is still on the CD. The original Japanese target CD is the actual album version. Everything else contains the cassette mixes. (Okay, I haven't had a chance to listen to them side by side, but its well documented online)...anyways, that's probably why I never bought that Big Country album since the 90s. I sure hope i got the 7" then. But sounds like something I probably dont want as a 12" either.
that duran duran debut sounds better than rio.
I have often wondered how Siouxsie Sioux convinced Malcolm McLaren to book her in her first gig when she didn't have a band and had never performed in public up to the point.😊
a blow job?🤓
Press To Play a real comeback after a bit of a meh early 80s
Enjoyable video. A couple of points:
1. Your hair looks much better like that! 🤣 I dunno if it’s supposed to be gelled up like the 80s or not but…well, respect to your hair!
2. Bit harsh on Def Leppard. I thought they were laughable at the time and I loved REM. Now I’m the opposite. I must admit though Hysteria is only half good and they lost it totally afterwards.
3. REM were the American Smiths imo. The Smiths are better. Fall On Me is a classic though, along with south central rain
So. Central Rain is great. My hair is like that for the 80's look.
2:57...lol
Hand in hand
Penelope Spheeris was also, I believe, the lead vocalist of Avengers
Penelope Houston
@@walzer38 sweet skin-popping christ, you are dead on. and my are my facks are askew!
Thanks for time traveling back to the 80's. Press was alright. I thought Good Times Coming was really good other than those the album was forgettable
No, there are two people who hated “Pour some sugar on me” from the start. I’m forced to change the Radio station to Country and Western when this crap is played.
I’ve never heard of Y Kant Tori Read. I also didn’t know David Lee Roth did a Spanish version. The Dudes soundtrack has to be better than the movie. The Bachelor Party soundtrack sounds as bad as the movie. Repo Man is a fun movie and I like the soundtrack. I have the 7” of In A Big Country. Never listened to the album for similar reasons you didn’t want to waste your allowance on. Nice REM. Rebel Yell is a great album but I purged it. I don’t need to hear it anymore.
Well, at least that Def Leppard record sells for $50+. But yeh, I never need to hear it again.
Angry remix from the 12" of Pretty head is much better
Sonrisa Salvaje - Savage Smile
Smile Dog.
Hilarious stroll through a delightfully random album selection...some cool, some weird, some both.
David Lee Roth: Did somebody say cultural appropriation?...hold my beer!!
Who doesn’t put out Spanish songs? Don’t try to make it a racist thing.
@@MickSupper Joke...not woke.
@@FlyJohnny100 Good to know. There's still hope in this world. lol
Great video! Didn't know you worked in a strip club, which video do you talk about that, would love to hear!
I can't remember which one, but it would have been the same Def Leppard story. I think I may have also talked about the time Morris Day was there and I wanted to bring him a large mirror.
@@RobertFithen Too funny, you should have! I saw Yoko Ono at MOMA a few years ago and I wanted to ask her what time it was, but I didn't have the nerve.
A video on the strip club please!
'Trust in me' from the Disney animation 'The Jungle Book', perhaps you have to be older?
I've never seen it.
@@RobertFithen ua-cam.com/video/cCX5JJwkZhU/v-deo.html
Are you Sure is "To the shore" not on this 1
It's not on any of the US issues.
Have you ever did a video on the most over played songs in Radio.
Not yet.
Big Country was the band on Pete Townshends' Empty Glass album . ( I think )
No , they weren't.
Usually agree with you but not this time .I'd rather listen to the worst Def Leppard song than anything by Tori Amos and Siouxee & the Banshees . I also think that Rem ,U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are some of the most overrated bands of all time.
I was excited to see that Y tori can't read album . I regret selling my dudes lp many years ago to this very day . see you sing Def Lep was side splitting ! rock on !
