I find it harder when friends or family still see you as an addict. This "once an addict always an addict", gets old. I've personally been clean for over 14yrs, and I'm still treated as an addict. Whether or not its said to me outright, I sense it in my familys behaviours. E.g. The hestitation to leave money around, asking to take them to an appointment, etc. Even though I never stole or was unreliable the stigma of "addict" continues to be attached to me. As a dual diagnosis clinician working in rehabs, helping other addicts achieve their goals, it's heavy to still carry the stereotpyes. Thanks for helping educate not only addicts but family and friends of addicts. I was also drug free for the 1st 24 years of my life, but that's rarely remembered. Bless you💙🙏
I had to quit going to meetings cuz I would say Hi my name is Heidi I am in recovery and was told I had to say I'm an addict nope if I say that over & over my brain believes that sh*t I AM IN RECOVERY
