I made a temp blanket for my Dad covering the last 12 months of my Mum's life. I crocheted hexagons and then joined them. The dates that were special - birthdays, anniversaries, etc - I made the centre round white. And the last one - the day my Mum passed - I did the centre round in black. All the rest were just the one colour. Dad loved it, and he is still using it 6 years later.
This is such a lovely and special idea and double special for your father for its meaning and memory of your mother and for the work and love you put into it.
I’m sorry for your loss. What a meaningful thing to do for your dad. I wish we could see a picture of it!
That's so sweet! Always a pleasure to knit something for someone, make the project extra special.
Oh my God, that sounds so beautiful, and I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm so happy that your dad loves it so much
What a great idea! I might have to do this for myself, thanks for the idea☺
I love temperature blankets! What I'm doing is making a "temperature scarf" every year for 10 years using the same yarn and same stitch pattern and will join them all together into a blanket on year 10. I started in 2020 and I'm very curious to see how much change there will be by 2029.
Wow that’s an amazing idea. How would you join the leap years?
@@academycute101 Good question, I guess I'll figure it out when the time comes.
What a cool idea!
What width and stitch did you choose? I made a temperature scarf for my hubby. I made it 12 inches wide and used single crochet stitch. It wound up being 8 feet long. He gets compliments when he wears it. People love his custom Dr Who scarf.
@@catlady743I know this is kinda old
But an idea is you couldadd the leap year dates as the boarders!
I found you at the end of the year just as I started picking my fiber arts habit back up after a few years hiatus. I had too much unprocessed trauma surrounding my craft due to domestic violence. Last year was a journey of processing via therapy and I finally started pulling my yarn and spinning supplies out again. Your videos have inspired me to get creative again and try new things!
I share your pain around a craft being nearly ruined by abusive partners/parents. Sounds like you got this, though! I have found real release of the binding shame and pain through crafting. Sending you a giant hug!
It's something the abuser wants to destroy b/c it gives you peace. Keep on keeping on.
Thank you for sharing. I had stopped my crafting because of grief that came up and due to getting covid a couple weeks ago I am using my crafting as rehab starting with crochet. Seeing your response encouraged me.
I love that you let it all out how much you love your yarn ... because we do it too 😂 you should see how often I hold out a ball of yarn to someone and declare "squish it. SQUISH IT!! Isn't it so SQUISHY?" My husband humors me every time, God bless him 😂
Bless your husband indeed! That is very sweet of him 😊
@@almahughes7636 it really is lol 💜
That's exactly what I do to my fiance whenever he takes me to buy yarn 😂 especially when I want him involved in the project.
Early retirement for health reasons. Getting back into crocheting. Your videos are helping me so much!
started the plan for my first "temperature" blanket watching this! i'm going to be using my chronic pain as a scale rather than temperature, not to be morbid but instead i think it would actually inspire me quite a lot to see if i could crochet every day other than the worst ones, and be able to look back and see how i was feeling while i worked on it. this video was amazing help to get started, thank you!!
I love this idea!!!
I'm so excited because I was looking at stuff on Amazon and there was your book. I felt like if someone was here I would say "look that is my friends book. I know we really don't know each other but I feel like I do. So cool 😎😎
Oooh how did I not think to look there for the book! I already spent my gift card tho ... 😒
@@elfrog98 I used a card I received from my sister. I purchased my from her website.
@@sandrapalmer5642 I plan on buying from the website once i can spare the $$, I'm hoping she won't pay so many fees or etc that way
Regarding color palettes, for the blankets I made for my granddaughters, I asked them what their favorite colors were and designed the color scheme around those. Each was strikingly different. The one I just finished for my son was designed around the colors in his living room (it was sized for a sofa blanket). Also, for his, I used a 5-degree spread since he lives in Southern California where there is only about 50 degree difference between summer and winter. That gave me a much wider color range and it turned out amazing.
i actually made my grandma this realllly bad temp blanket when i was around 9-10 years old-she was turning 81 that year. i did the high and low temps for her birthday every year, added her wedding anniversary high and low temps. it was very “homemade” and had some really scratchy acrylic but she loved that blanket so much.
i now crochet temp blankets for my cousins kids starting on the day they were born and ending on their first birthday. i’m planning on crocheting one for a friend for the day she got engaged ending on her wedding day. my mom is buried in a temp blanket made with the high temp for my birth year and socks i knitted her through her breast cancer journey. temp blankets are so meaningful ❤
it was also really cool to meet you at rhinebeck 2023! love from nj❤
I downloaded a lot of different crochet vids for my 12 yo daughter and she swears you are the best in giving directions for beginners! Thank you!

I just know that blanket is going to look gorgeous when it’s finished. You are one of my absolute favorite crochet designers, and I’ve always looked up to you. One day I hope to be a crochet designer, and seeing your process really helps put that process in perspective.
Love watching the design process 💖 I already know I'll want to make temperature baby blankets during the 9 months of pregnancy when I'm ready to have kids, but I enjoy so much watching everyone else work on theirs!
Not making a temperature blanket this year. However, I loved watching you, + the kitties, go thru the process.
My first temp blanket was a gift to my husband for the first year we were married too. It was a granny hexagon creation with the centre representing the weather. Hubby likes greens and blues so they were the hot and cold respectively and a natural for the freezing mark. All tied together with an oatmeal second round and join as you go. It's more lap-gan size but he loves it. We can really tell when our january honeymoon in Jamaica occurred!
Loved the peek behind the curtain for the design process
"Designing is a whole lot of math with a side of crochet." LOL Love it!!!!!!!
Happy to hear about your temperature blanket, but, girl, I am just staring at the screen because your hair looks FABULOUS in this video. I mean you always look great, but those curls are somehow both fun and elegant.
I'm gonna make a temperature blanket for a special year, so I'm not on the rush to start it in January and seeing the videos, I think it was good decision! I've already took excellent ideas from your email workshop, but then the Instagram live last time and now this video always add something more to my scratch book 💖
Loved this video! Amazed at the design process. Loved how you showed how to make a Guage swatch and extrapolate the measurements needed from it. I very rarely swatch, now I see the importance of doing one; even just to practice the stitch and repeats. Thank you!
You are Amazing! Thank you so much for this. I am doing my very first temp blanket for my son’s birth year. Love your Creativity, Organization, Detail, Humor and Beautifully toned voice to listen too. Happy Crocheting!
I recently started designing my own crochet projects and my process is very similar to yours! I really enjoy how you keep everything organized! I have ADHD so though I might not be very organized, having some structure definitely helps me keep track of things. This year im knitting my first temperature blanket!! I’m so excited to see how it turns out :)
I love your hair like this and all of your projects.
I have never made a temperature blanket before. I think I should try it. I was impressed with the steps. It feels like designing a new pattern and being very excited to start crocheting. But with lots of colors too!!😍😍😍😍
This project looks like so much fun! You inspired me. Side note your skin is beautiful. You’re glowing. You have that twinkle in your eye. I can tell you’re so excited about this project.
Talented funny smart beautiful inside & out. You at the 10:35 mark is everything and a spongebob reference to boot. You’re killin it.
Your hair is incredibly beautiful!
this is going to be soooo gorgeous! i’m currently working on my “temperature” blanket for 2023, which is actually more of a feeling/mental health blanket. basically asking myself, “how did i feel today”, or “how was my day today”, and my colors corresponding to a scale i made :). i’m using your linen stitch granny square pattern and it’s coming out beautifully! had to make a small edit on the pattern and i ended up completely redoing this month’s square with slightly more vibrant colors (a range of deep blues, teals, and greens), and i am so happy i took that risk because WOW, it is stunning. so excited to see your progress on your blanket!!
I was thinking the same thing for my 2024 blanket-a mental health/mood scale. If you don’t mind my asking, how did you create your scale/gauge, and how did you measure each day? My uncertainty is how I can make it very clearly measurable. Also, how can I still get the amount of colors I’d like. 🤷🏽♂️ Any thoughts/advice would be super appreciated!
@@LiveWellLoveWell hi there!! i don't mind at all :) !! what i ended up doing was making the scale have 7 options: great, good, neutral high, neutral, neutral low, bad, and horrible. i assigned some nice colors to them all--i saw one crocheter (can't remember who) recommend making sure the low mood ones are just as good of colors as the high moods, so that you're not upset when you have to use them or anything, as a way of valuing all emotions/moods!
for each day i would just ask myself, "how was today/how did i feel today/how did my day go?". i would just write down the answer for that day with the corresponding color. it took me some time to not overthink it, but once you get in the habit it's a lot easier to categorize how the day went! i actually ended up using emojis that were the colors of my yarn as a quicker way to write it down, just in my notes app! im in the process of finishing up this blanket, and it's gone wonderfully!! definitely one of my favorite projects to date :) the pattern i ended up doing was just using granny squares, 7 rows each, one for each day. i kept messing up the linen square pattern and didn't enjoy my colors, so i decided to change it! i used red, orange, greens, teals, and blues, with a nice wheat green for the connecting color. and the size is perfect!!
my Ravelry is sardinemasc, and i have the project up on there if you want to take a look. its a really funky and fun palette, which i feel is fitting for recording emotions!! i hope you have fun planning & making yours :)!!!
Yes! Please, more design videos ❤ thank you Toni!!😊
I love these videos where I feel like I’m just hanging out with my best crochet friend. Can’t wait to see how this looks as you keep stitching!
I’m not even going to make a temperature blanket but your style of vlogging is so great I’m just here. And bam, a class you opened up with has me interested & learning more. You’re so awesome.

You are a crochet superstar! I love your channel so much.
I am anxious to start a temperature blanket in the year I was born in AZ 1952, since our year is hot, hotter and hottest for our seasons, it means a lot of one color and I desire more repeats, love the chevron look and think I can really work with this design. Thank you so much for sharing your process, you have inspired me!
Thanks for the inspiration. I'm actually making mine in the round with various stitches. I am using your tip for turning each round for a flatter granny square.
So I have watched this video about 5 times in one sitting trying to make sure I understand 'Crochet Algebra' and wow Tony you are an awesome teacher through and through. I always go back to some of your videos when I forget how to do a specific stitch. I am now planning on doing 5 of your free patterns as autumn is slowly approaching in South Africa (you should see the little girl inside me jumping around with pure excitement🤭). ❤🧡💛💚💙🖤
I'm a knitter but I loved this video!! Your blanket looks amazing!
I love the idea of making a temperature blanket for the first year of marriage using the Bahama Blanket pattern. I was trying to figure out how and where to start and this has made it so much easier. Thank you Toni!!!
Wow that was deep. I really appreciate you sharing exactly what goes into planning and making a temperature blanket. I’ve been timid to do one but how can I not after your class. Yours is already gorgeous.

I love videos on the design process! I have this idea for a sweater, but I don't have the first clue how to design it. I would love to get it out of my head and off of the sheet of paper, on to my hook! So watching videos like this is super helpful. Thank you!
Wishing you Peace, Love and Light
This is gorgeous, I honesty can't wait to see the end of it! The colors look SO BEAUTIFUL!
I freaking love your hair. ❤❤❤❤❤ Gorgeous!!

Now THIS video excited me! I am a planner and I love the swatch idea, the math concept, and even downloaded the app. Lady, this video is just what I needed!
I did my first temp blanket last year in C2C… still in May and it’s massive! This years is off to a better start in a UK double crochet
I love the content about how you do your projects. So interesting. Please do more videos of your project planning. I haven't made any patterns or such like this myself and would love to get ideas on how to start. And I love your new temp blanket idea. Makes me want to do one like it for my anniversary.
i love being a fiber artist
Thank you for sharing how you figured out the math from your swatch to make the temperature blanket. I have a hard time with that but now that I've seen it done think I can do it. Keep on hooken with no knots may your yarn flow free!
Great video, Toni! I started a cross-stitch temperature project in 2022 and lost steam after March, when I had a math crisis of the geometric variety. After letting it sit for nearly a year, and watching your video, I came up with a better way to start each concentric-square month and am now revving up to get busy on it again. With maybe a side of knitted or crocheted piece (scarf?) for a different year!
I'm loving all the behind the scenes design creation info, even if that means dealing with math. Thanks for sharing, Toni!

I know this isn't crochet related but just gotta say loving your hair and the colour of your top suits you.
Personally never made a temperature blanket but have decided to learn mosaic, Tunisia and try knitting this Yr, so watching your channel while on my own projects. Xxx
Loved this video so much Toni!! You are truly one of the few creators that can keep my attention for a full video 😂 Also loooove this temperature blanket design. Truly makes me want to make one for me and my boyfriends birth year, it’s the same year luckily 😅
Of course the whole blanket thing is wonderful - professional yet achievable. What else from Toni ?!
But I can't help commenting on .. THE HAIR !!! It's faaaaaaaabulous !
This is going in my Knowledge Base.
Such a great design! Enjoyed coming along with your design process. Nice to have cameo appearances by 2 cats.
It's so weird how you are reading my mind! I've been SEARCHING for metal Tunisian crochet hooks. Haven't been able to find them anywhere. Thanks for talking about Sewrella's listing!
Thanks for sharing that Wunderground has historical temperatures. I found out these go back to 1930. That got me thinking... it might be fun to do a temperature blanket for my first year of life. So I could look up the temperatures from my day of birth to my first birthday and make a blanket based on that.
Started a Temperature blanket but the weather has been steady in NJ causing me to use the same colors ugh! But I’m thankful for the warmer than usual weather and no snow .
I was looking at the temperatures this year, and the one before and this one is so warmer, can you imagine how cool it would be to have these 2 blankets one each other and to can see the differences.
I can't remember where, but in some of the videos Toni was tell what she doing to not have one very large part of the same color, look around at her videos, I'm sorry that I can't be more concrete.
Living in SC where more than half the time is in 70s made me split up my degrees more like by 3 instead of 5 or 9 or what have you. I had to group low colors in larger groups since the likelyhood of seeing under 30 is so small. Definitely took me 3 days trying to get my temperatures to what I think will give good variations in similar temperatures. 😅
The temperature project really requires specific planning to guarantee success & happiness with the end result. Thank you for the thorough instruction on your process. 😊☕️🍩
That was an awesome breakdown of your 2023 temperature blanket planning process! It's gonna look amazing! I'm doing my 1st temp blanket this yr and I am really enjoying it. And it's basic sc and Red Heart SS yarn. And cuz I am also from the Midwest (Chicago area), the color fluctuates practically on a daily basis-pretty incredible. Thank u for inspiring me to crochet my 1st temp blanket! 😻 Love your kitties too!
yesss I just started my first temperature blanket this year and was making my own pattern. I was a bit nervous about how I went about it, but I'm glad it pretty much lines up with your process! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for showing the design process - I am definitely making my first temp blanket more complicated than it needs to be but mine is a comparison with my birth year and this year from my 50th birthday. Your first one with panels and 3 rows per day is what I am leaning towards for this project and should have a lot of variation since I was born in Iowa but now live in Seattle. Lots of love from a Midwestern girl living in the Pacific Northwest 🧡
Wow amazing. I am in line with the last commenter same time I found this channel
Same situation surrounding life. I never a thing about crochet but the chain lol nd now I’m making a double crochet blanket hoping to learn more. Thanks 😊
I never thought to do it for past years! Now I'm considering making one for when my son was born.
Don’t you just LOVE crocheting with a Kitty by your side? I have two snuggle buddies (brothers) that keep me company❤

I'm making my sister and her fiance a temperature blanket for their wedding, it's going to be for their first year together! I'm taking inspiration from your linen stitch square blanket and having 2 extra squares, one at the front and one at the back, since it will end up being 13 squares. I'm so excited to see their reaction to it. I'm holding the yarn double since they were long distance for the year with one being the high for where he lived and one being the high where she lived.
Well. Coming from someone that is math illiterate, you made the math make total sense. I love this idea 💡 ❤️
I’m going to have to save this video. I always get confused on how to math out my projects, so i vote for a more in depth one if you can. Thank you! ❤

I am intrigued by this concept especially since my craft room is in my basement where it is always cold. I am going to wait until I have a few more projects under my belt before I start a temperature blanket but working on blankets at home is actually not that bad even in the summer lol.
love your slippers!! 😍😍
I loved this tutorial. Can you do a pattern based off of yardage? I know this was a year ago, but the idea you mentioned made me want to do my first temperature blanket on the year I got married. I love that your videos are timeless and what you put out seems to come to me when I need them. I now have to start writing down all my ideas and future projects. I had never done that before, then again, I always worked and worked on one project at a time because that was all the time I had. Now I have a lot of time for coming up with ideas and you are the inspiration to a lot of them. I love this chevron pattern by the way.
Awesome colors,I hope to watch the finish.👍

I’m a new subs and love your channel. This video sent me down a beautiful rabbit hole! I was thrilled to create a palette & test it with colored pencils. Thanks for the inspiration!
i knew i wouldnt be able to keep up with something as big as a blanket so i bought some warmer tones with the aim to make myself a scarf, there were a lot of reds and in my bundle which inspired me to do a period scarf instead, which is even less work!!
I can say that I use another pallette of colours, purple, blue and green, total of 22 colours. Some colours is a bit more down to earth and some is a bit brighter, and some is a bit more towards pink. And I do linen stitch / moss stitch. Using fingering weight and the brand ficolana arwetta. And doing both high and low, doing two rows for high and doing two rows for low. So it will be big.
And I love your videos for the temperature blankets you have done. I love how much you help. And I love it. Thank you for all your ideas for it.
Thoughts: to get a little extra length, do either the first day of the month or the last day as a full row...

I just emailed you for guidance on my temp blanket struggles. This is like you were reading my mind 😅
This is such an informative video! The best was when you said that historical data can be used. I know I should have known...
I like to have an idea of what the final item will look like. I don't really like mystery quilts, etc and the weather that must still happen is that mystery. Yes, it can be fun, I agree, but that is me.
You helped me decide on a period and I am in the process of designing my blanket. It is fun and I don't feel that pressure of, it is already Feb and you are only on the 5th of January ;)
So, as soon as I have e something to show, I will. Thanks again!
Toni you just proved 90 % of the universe wrong for those that said “why we have to take algebra in school because we’re not gonna use it afterwards “. 😂

Thank you so much for going over the process of how you set up & organize everything for making a temperature blanket. The math explanation was incredibly helpful! I have temperatures saved from a full year but haven't decided what kind of blanket design to make as of yet. It was supposed to be for our last year in this house but we're still here... then I realized they ARE special because right in the middle is when our youngest graduated. I think it would be awesome to include him in the design of the blanket. Would definitely love to see more videos with segments of insight into how you plan out projects like you included in this one!
Hi Toni, I love your kitty slippers!! Where did you get them? I kind of want to do a temperature blanket, but it's such a big undertaking.Yikes!! I love watching you. Seeing your beautiful smile always brightens my day. 🙂🙂
This was awesome to watch as always! I love the sneak peek and clarity about the process. I am currently crocheting one of the patterns from your book using the skein tone yarn you reviewed! Hopefully I will finish soon and make a temperature blanket 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your process for designing your project. The yarn colors are beautiful and the chevron pattern is one of my favorites. I look forward to seeing your progress on your temperature blanket. 💜🙏🏻
I like the idea of not having to be confined to this years temps. I think I’d have more success if I did temps that are already on record.
Wow, this is really heavy duty 🤯 I think I'd be curled up in a heap of yarn, rocking and silently crying to myself 😓 I've only been crocheting a short while and have started on my first temperature blanket. I've really simplified mine, though. I use the weather app on my phone at around the same time each day and pick the coordinating yarn for the highest temperature. However, if there's been more than 2 days of the same yarn, I go with the lower temperature or split that temperature bracket into 2 yarns. I've decided that as it's my blanket, I want to enjoy the process, not stress myself out with specifics. Nobody is going to check up on me! 🤭🧶
Yes, please share your design process! This year might be the year I finally make a temperature blanket. I have the concept written down and will be ready for me when I'm ready.
My daughter and I are both making a temperature blanket. We are doing 10 colors (live in TX). She is going with darker colors than I am. For the hottest temp is going to be 99+ and using a black color (representing "Hot as HE-double toothpicks). She is doing a c2c design, and I have changed 3 times already of what design but I believe I will have a linen design using your squares from 2021/2022. The squares will be bigger than the pixel squares.
Absolutely amazing you shared all of this...but you already know 🙄😁
I'm so glad I did a temp blanket last year, I learned so much. I love the pattern I was using, but I preferred something that was easier to count imho. And one of the things I changed was the temps, the lowest I had was 6c (technically I had one that was 0c - 5c but it never hit below that unless it was like 4am), but the highest for that low range was until 11c, so I didn't get to use the yarn a lot, thus for 2023 I've decided to shift it to 8c - 13c, because the lowest it got was 9c where I lived, whereas most of the time, the temp was hanging around the 12c - 17c I had and thus used up A LOT of yarn.
So I am sitting here in my car (because I just got out of church).. thanking God for patterns because I teach preschool and we don't do that fancy math. I am getting a head just watching you! I put away for a hand dyed yarn next year and will go for just the softest I can find in my price range. Thank you for taking the time to include all the details. You crak me up BTW.
Last month I started crocheting blankets for Welcome Blanket and quickly found out that I had a lot to learn about the finer points of crochet. (haha) I've seen a number of your videos and really enjoy your energy, enthusiasm, and use of color. And, of course, I've learned a lot. I'm working on my fourth Welcome Blanket now and there is definitely improvement. Thank you!
P.S.- Your cat paw slippers (yes! I noticed them😉) are fabulous & I see that Peanut was kind enough to supervise your work but I hope he didn’t miss too many naps. 🤭
I'm loving your hair...😍
Your Temperature Blanket is going to be lovely, & the yarn is gorgeous as well; I wish I could...💰
Thank you for sharing the process...🤗
Absolutely love your blanket, thanks for sharing the design process, I always learn something new watching your podcasts 😊
I am making a temp blanket. Its 6 colors of muted blues, a dusty teal, and golden hues. My boyfriend picked out the colors and little does he know its a couch blanket for him. Made with love in every stitch.
Yarn winding is so satisfying! ❤️ 💙 💜
You stopped on my daughter's birthday (the actual day of her birth in 2010.) I LOVE this design, although I don't Tunisian crochet. I am currently doing a 2023 blanket using your linen stitch square design in pastel colors. I want to do another blanket for my 50th birthday coming up, and I was thinking either ripples or chevrons.
You are awesome and that blanket will be stunning and for such a special event. I can’t wait to see it ❤
I loved this video! I would love more design tips you have for clothing! That would be super cool!
Thank you for outlining your process for designing a temp blanket! I want to design 3 of them for the year each of my kids was born but I don't want to end up with a tea towel size or a king size blanket. Math is not my strong suit but your system seems understandable, which is a blessing lemme tell ya! :)
On another note my hubby watched the first season of Pressure Cooker and he was surprised at how it drew him in. He says the ending of the season is pretty good. :)
