I'm probably going to give you the sixeth episod of Chernobyl series . it is going to be a long replay to your question so i'll just begin
We all know that war between both sides never ends /or never began . the west is attacking with cold blood . the east is just waiting for "it" . this series is one of the cold attacks the west did . in a way of depth ..
the idea is another episode to clarify that or to show how is what Mr.Johan Renck said ,that every thing of this series is true . to turn not . to show that this was just a way the west made to make the east look like guilty eveen if they are ..
i know most of you is going to laugh at me but . i took my chance to make you read that any way .

I"m russian. Thanks for this akt of art & memory. Great memorial for the chernobyl liquidators.
His love for raw, unblemished images comes across very clearly in Chernobyl. A great discovery. Hope he continues to make more such movies.
He also directed episodes of The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, plus the first 3 episodes of Vikings, which means he gets a heap of the Royalty's

Chernobyl has been a unique combination of brilliant acting, direction, cinematography and sound. The combination has resulted in a rare and incredibly good drama.
Usually, when I hear directors talking about “the process”, it’s damn near unbearable. THIS fella, though... I could listen to him all day. Heavy, thoughtful, serious cat. No bullshit, no pretense. He’d make an excellent teacher. And “Chernobyl” is a masterful work of drama and true terror. Bravo, Johan! More, please!

Agreed! I find a lot of directors talk about their "process" and "craft" with a lot of ego and how it's just a decision that they know naturally. But this director, though, really teaches you the emotional pulls from the scenes and the actual ideas, and it's awesome.

He’s done an amazing job, I bet being a photographer helped a lot with the directing, taking as much from reality as possible makes it much more interesting. I can’t stop thinking about Chernobyl too I even watched videos about nuclear reactors lol 😂 didn’t care when I was at school.
I completely agree, the real truth is only starting to be told and he has done an amazing job. I remember the day but most of us did not know the truth. The people of this region are amazingly strong and beautiful.

WHAT A STUNNING JOB HE DID....
He's from my home city, Uppsala, and I used to run into him back in the 90s when he was a hipster pop star.
There's no way in hell I could've ever guessed that he'd become a master director! He was just a cocky shit back then.
But time changes us all, and he impressed me hugely with Chernobyl, which is a wonderfully directed series about
a less wonderful event. And I like that he's even grown a standard director's beard as well!

@Мария Баранова Sure, they're very good. But I'm an adult now, so I'd much rather read serious literature by Tolstoy and Dostoyevski. And I'd also rather watch communist cinema from the 50s and 60s than yet more Bergman.
We like what others have, isn't that usually the case?
@Мария Баранова I'm not a communist by any means. I admire some aspects of the ideology, but I don't think it works in practice, due to the corrupted and greedy nature of human beings.
But Sweden is a social democratic country, so the emphasis on equality and a lack of any real class divide, is pretty strong. So in that sense, I can relate to what the communists wanted to achieve.
As for Bergman, yes, the Seventh Seal is a classic for a reason. But I like Persona even more. And Scenes From a Marriage.
And yes, I can see that you're an adult. I checked. And a cute one, too. ;)

I could be listening to this man for hours and hours... I loved Chernobyl. We shouldn't forget so easily. Forgetfulness and lies have things in common.
Last part about creating a unique voice as an artist really resonated with me. Solid advice!

This guy knows what he’s doing haha very good job.. please make more stuff possible a movie about benevolent aliens since all aliens movies always try and make them “bad and scary” I think we need a positive sci fi movie that where beings contact and then eventually come to the planet temporarily to help humanity and tell the people the truth but are instead tried to be made into a scapegoat and are declared war upon but they don’t fight back even when shot down and continue to guide and contact certain people and leaders and eventually are able to get enough people aware of what’s going on that change is demanded and a utopia begins and right when it does the film ends and it says “now let see what we can build” or something inspiring.. and at first people believe it, as the movie goes on people begin to find the truth much like was portrayed in the Chernobyl films.. talk to dr Steven Greer watch his docs and make a sci fi about what he’s talked about and blown open as an ultimate warning to humanity. It must be done

I highly recommend "Chernobyl" to anyone who has not seen it - though I suspect that virtually everyone who came to this video did so because of the HBO series. That was my motivation and my route, at lest.
I’m doing the most unorthodox shit and watching all these interviews before I even watch the show, because I know I’m gonna immediately love it and kill the 5 episodes in one day. lol

I thought his directing was particularly effective e in the darker, more cruel scenes, like in the third episode in the hospital, or in the fourth episode with the animal culling

Hey BAFTA Guru, I'd like to ask! Was the Games Panel on "Cinematography - The Art of Lighting for Games", that was in May 2019, recorded? If so, any chance it'll be uploaded on this channel like your other panels?
Considering that he was personally chosen by Vince Gilligan to direct a few episodes of Breaking Bad because of how he places the cameras, it seems like this must be one of his strongest sides.
This may sound weird but I liked his vocabulary. Especially, adverbs. :P

The music is really "good"...I use quotes because it is bad in the sense that puts you in a desperate mood very efficiently. It sounds like huge rusty rotating machinery...Very unsettling.
Because it is. They used sounds of actual power plants to make the music.
The best film music is the one you can't remember hearing. ^^ But srs, yeah, I still liked this one. It added, rather than removed. However, _actually_ some of the sound work at the beginning of ferst ep was so good - I mean with fridge sounds and all - that it actually took me out of the movie. It was _too_ good, to the point of being alienating again. :p If you want a better example, analyze the difference between the two 9/11 films, the one made for TV vs the one for cinema. The cinema one has _epic_ audio atmo, but really, you kinda don't miss it in the TV version, though the biggest problem with the latter is it's "telly-esque-ness". :p Oh well, I'm drinking Aquavit and thinking about all those lost dreams.

Stakka Bo. One thing, he is totally wrong about, is his assumption of nationalism in Chernobyl tv series. All that talk about Ukraine, its history and role in Russian empire and USSR. At the time (1986) noone cared, people were brought up as brothers regardless of the ethnicity, and USSR was a multinational and multiconfessional state. So all that emphasis on Ukraine is bullshit, influenced by the latest events in that country.
And you, sir, can go f~ck yourself. The message of the series, as well as the topics they touched on aside from Chornobyl, was powerful and brilliant.

I'm not sure what you mean with "nationalism"? As far as politics go, the series seems mainly concerned with the lack of communication and all the misinformation and lies
that almost led to a global disaster. In fact, Chernobyl made Gorbachev realize how utterly corrupt the Soviet system was, and by introducing glasnost and perestroika,
the roof could no longer hold the weight of lies and greed. So it all collapsed 5 years after Chernobyl.
