    The description contains links to some different brands of belt dressing/belt conditioner you can use.
    The description also includes steps you can take to determine why the drawer won't open even after treating the belt.

    This reminds me of a similar situation I fixed around 1988. My friend called me up, very upset. His rented VHS tape was stuck in the VHS tape player and it wouldn't eject. He needed to return the VHS tape to avoid late fees. I disassembled the VHS player, manually ejected the tape, then treated all of the belts with belt conditioner. Worked for a few years, then the VHS player died completely. So there you go. Thanks for the tutorial. Ignore the negative comments.

    • @t5montecarlo
      @t5montecarlo  2 роки тому +1

      @t5montecarlo  2 роки тому +1

      @Vira Thiyam: Thank you for the kudos. Some viewers have reported that some perfumes also work, but no names/types were specified. Additionally, you can try removing the belt and cleaning the belt and pulleys in warm soapy water. You can also try cleaning the belt and pulleys, in place, with alcohol on a swab. The cleaning options may provide good results for a good period of time, but without the stickiness of the belt dressing, the belt may slip again (duration unknown).

    • @t5montecarlo
      @t5montecarlo  Рік тому +2

      @ snapdeus: That is a good tip that vinegar can be used as a cleaner to remove the dirt/oils from the belt, and you probably won't experience slippage, again, for a while.👍 If you were to apply belt dressing/conditioner to the cleaned belt, it will leave a tacky residue behind greatly reducing the likelihood of slippage in the future, especially after cleaning the belt.

    • @f77bong
      @f77bong Рік тому +1

      I really wasn't expecting this to work, but it did. 1 swab of vinegar and it's opening and closing again after not having been used for several years. Really comes in handy as where I'm from a can (no idea if you can buy less than that) of belt dressing costs about as much as the whole cd/dvd drive would.

      @t5montecarlo  Рік тому +2

      @37th Person Helper: It can be quite fiddly to open the drawer with a pin as you have to push quite hard. If you are still struggling, you may not be pushing hard enough, or the pin is not quite pushing on the right part of the lever inside the drive.
      If you take the drive out of the machine and remove the drive cover, you will be able to better see the opening lever. You will also be able to have easy access to the belt.

    • @t5montecarlo
      @t5montecarlo  9 місяців тому

      @tylerdurden783: I'm sorry you are the first in thousands that were unsuccessful. If the drive is partially opened, will it continue to open on its own? Will it close on its own? If it does, then I can only think the belt and pulleys are quite dirty and I recommend removing the drive and opening it. Then, remove the belt and give it a good cleaning with warm soapy water. Clean the pulley grooves with alcohol. Install the cleaned/dried belt and treat the inside edge with belt dressing. Also, clean the rails that the drawer rides on of dust/dirt and relubricate them, lightly. If the drive drawer still won't open, there must be something else wrong with it.

    My problem is different.
    When I turn on the computer the DVD Drive Drawer opens by itself and makes some annoying sounds.
    One day it even closed.
    I didn't notice but it was open for an entire day and I can't close it.

    • @t5montecarlo
      @t5montecarlo  3 роки тому +1

      @Siva Suntharam: If the drive drawer is opening by itself, some code is being executed to open it. Please check your computer for malware.
      Normally, if you push on the open drawer, it will continue to close by itself, but yours isn't. Have you tried closing the drawer when the computer is turned off?
      If the annoying sounds reminded you of grinding plastic gears, you may have to remove the drive and disassemble it to find out what is wrong and fix it...or replace it.

    Thanks.. but my problem is it sounds like it's stuck, light comes on, drive won't eject, and when I open it manually the way you did here, it grinds the gears using brute force in order to close or open it all the way.. all this happened after cd exploded inside drive at warp speed!! I took it all apart and cleaned every little piece of the cd out of it I could see, hear, or find with air gun. still no working? any suggestions please...?

    • @t5montecarlo
      @t5montecarlo  5 років тому

      @Todd Gilmore: I have never heard of a disc exploding inside a drive, that must have been quite a shock.
      I suspect there are still some very small bits lodged between gears, along a guide rail, or in the electric motor. The gears may also have been damaged. It is hard to diagnose long distance; eyes are the best tool. I suggest to take it to bits again and remove parts for a close examination. Be careful not to disturb the lens. Let us know what you find.

    I have one that someone bumped into while it was opening. I am just glad that optical media is dead for the most part. I usually don't use CDs or DVDs any more. I was just wanting to look through a stack of old CDs I burned. I even removed the DVD drive from my laptop and got an adaptor for a 2.5 inch hard drive. It works flawlessly and adds a second hard drive or solid state drive. I am just not sure if I get the full speed of the hard drive I used in there but it is not slow. It is a SATA drive, just not the full size connector that those laptop CD/DVD drives have but the adaptor makes it work and holds the drive securely too. I got one of the plastic ones, they come in metal and multiple thicknesses.

    I have a short pin and it didn't work (I guess it needs about an inch). However I noticed that the problem what that the button of the deskotp case outside the DVD drive didn't push the actual button of the DVD drive so I just pushed the DVD drive with a pen; I couldn't push it with my finger due to the mechanism of the outside button was covering most of the DVD button. Any suggestion? I mean I do have a pen on my office and I can open it anytime but it looks weird when there are people around.

    • @t5montecarlo
      @t5montecarlo  11 місяців тому

      @jackdonith: I'm not sure I follow, so let me know if I understand. When you push the button on the front of the drive (like the thumbnail of this video), it is not depressing the switch behind the button. If you use press the button with a pen, you able to press it button far enough to depress the switch behind the button?
      If I understand correctly, I suggest removing the drive, removing the drive cover, opening the drawer to the face can be removed, removing the drive face (part that contains the button), and then add something to the back of the button so that it will reach the switch with less pressure on the button.
      If I don't understand correctly, I am sorry. Perhaps you can describe a bit differently or reference a picture. I realize things like this are always easier to describe in person.

      @mandiramukherjee7173: The paperclip must be inserted perpendicular to the front of the drive, and you have to push quite hard in order to move the lever that will open the drawer. The lever is not very wide; if the paperclip is not inserted perpendicular to the front of the drive, you may miss the lever and be pressing on the drive frame. After the drawer has opened a bit from pressing on the lever, it can be pulled the rest of the way open. Let us know how you get on.

    • @t5montecarlo
      @t5montecarlo  3 роки тому +1

      @scaryninjagamerboy: If the button doesn't work and the light is not illuminating when you push the button, there are 2 potential causes: 1.) There is no power to the drive or 2.) The electrical contact behind the button is bad.
      If the drive makes noise when the computer boots up, the power cable is connected to the drive, which likely means the electrical contact behind the button is bad.
      If the drive doesn't make any noise when the computer boots up, open the computer and confirm the power and drive cables are connected properly. Try swapping the power supply cable with another device that works and see if the drive works. If the drive still doesn't work, there is something internally wrong with the drive and it may be time to replace it.

      @janefarquharson9394: I am glad you were able to fix your drive. However, belt dressing is more like a glue; it leaves a sticky/tacky residue. It is not a lubricant. You applied a lubricant to a slipping belt, so I don't understand why it worked, unless the solvent in the spray also cleaned the dirt from the belt. In any case, your drive works for now. If it slips again, I recommend removing the belt from the drive and cleaning it in warm soapy water, and then clean the pulley with alcohol on a cotton swab. This deep cleaning will give you stop the slipping of the belt for a while. If you can find belt dressing, it will be a much longer solution.

    Very helpful !!! Sir, any advice on how to open a CD or DVD tray on a laptop.

      @SejL Shah: I am sorry, but I have no experience with a laptop CD/DVD drive. I only know they are easy to remove from the laptop. I suggest removing the drive and then studying it to see how to take it apart. Once apart, you may be able to determine why it isn't opening. Let us know how you get on.

      @@t5montecarlo Thank you Sir ! After watching some videos I was able to take the CD drive apart from the laptop and found a tiny hole on it. So by following the same steps, from your video, I was able to open the tray. However, I didn't see any belt inside it...may be its broken... Now after watching this video at least I can open the tray manually using a pin, and without turning off the laptop. Thank you !!!

      @@sejjalshah I also watched a video where a laptop CD drive was disassembled. It appears there is a solenoid that releases a latch. A small spring will push the drawer out a small amount, after the latch has been released by the solenoid, allowing you to pull the drive drawer all the way out.

      @@t5montecarlo Thank you for the info. In my cd drive, upon pressing the button to open the tray, only the LED keeps blinking for some time, a little sound is heard, kind of an attempt for push the tray out and then nothing happens. May be a time to buy a new one, as often, the CDs / DVDs aren't getting detected, after inserting them.

      @@sejjalshah If you are hearing a clicking sound, then I suspect the solenoid is working. Perhaps the spring is broken or the tracks are dirty. If discs are not being detected, it may be time to retire the drive unless you have success after trying to clean the laser lens.

    Hello Everyone 👋.
    If any of you don't have Belt Dressing Spray and their perfume didn't work either then i will recommend you to remove the belt with the help of any pin and wash it with soap. It will be a little hard to put again but it worked in my Case 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

      @GBANGYTツ- CoD Mobile: Yes, as long as you can open the pin enough and it is long enough.

    in my case when i try to open the drawer it dosent open but my drawer's light dosent light aswell unlike yours can you tell me why the light didnt light?

    • @t5montecarlo
      @t5montecarlo  2 роки тому

      @Flying Bird: If the button doesn't work and the light is not illuminating when you push the button, there are 3 potential causes:
      1.) The light no longer works,
      2.) There is no power to the drive, or
      3.) The electrical contact behind the button is bad.
