Bob refrained from ponderous Encyclopedia and perused only mystery books. He often found himself engaging in histrionics and be confounded and nonplussed when reading such pieces of literary work. However, this did not preclude him from continuing perusing mystery books.
Using new vocab words in your own sentences is a great way to remember them! If you only hear a word once, that could preclude you from retaining your knowledge. :)
1. peruse (v): to read sth in a careful way. ~ I peruse the research papers of other people before writing my own thesis. 2. nonplussed (adj): so bewildered and surprised that you don't know how to react. ~ The young singer was nonplussed by all the sudden interest in him. 3. histrionic (adj): overly emotional, often in an unsincere way or without real meaning. ~ This actor's histrionic voice is perfect for the stage, but not in everyday life. 4. preclude (v): prevent sth from happening or sb from doing sth, make sth impossible. ~ It's your condescending attitude that precludes you from winning your dream girl's heart. 5. ponderous (adj): - a book, speech or style of writing is ponderous, it is boring because it's too slow, long and serious. ~ The boss' ponderous speech concerning the inauguration of the new plant puts him to sleep. - moving slowly and heavily because of great weight. ~ After giving birth to the third child, she had a ponderous manner. 6. confound (v): to confuse sb, esp by not according to their expectations. ~ That he failed the GRE test confounded his mother, as she knew how smart and studious he is.
A plethora of new words might seem like a ponderous and confounding task for one and the only way to learn is to peruse the sentence formation of words and practice and not to get histrionic and nonplussed or it would preclude us from reaching our goal.
I ain't never heard of any of these words. I always struggle with my vocabulary and never put in any effort to expand it. Now I'm trying to learn words prefix, roots, and suffix to help the pain. My laziness with words is the reason why I want to wait a whole year before I take the GRE.
Confound: Very Confused . Daniel was confounded when he has to undergo multiple learning parths. Preclude: To prevent from happening/ like to seclude.
