Hi Colley. Lovely scene. Staithes is so pictuesque and I hope to go there one day, being an ex-Pom its a must-do for me too. Love David Curtis work aswell...such a master of very minimal brushstrokes but as you say he hits the nail on the head with each one. His subtle tip of holding a brush in his mouth whilst painting so he doesnt have to talk to onlookers made me laugh on one of his dvds! Great video and thanks for sharing. Graham
Would really love a longer video, painting from start to finish. We missed so much seeing you form the shapes and choosing which to detail and which to ignore. But thanks for sharing this brief one at least🙏🏻🤩💜
I totally loved watching you paint this lovely scene. Seeing your choices of color and value was really useful. What kind of lighting do you have in your studio? I have natural light from the east and south--not ideal. The light changes throughout the day and changes the tones on my paintings. So, I was curious about your lighting and how you maintain consistency. Thanks
This is a great lesson, thank you. What substrate did you use - it's a panel, but what kind? Also, do you consider this a study for a larger painting or is it a finished, sellable work that you will frame and put up for sale? TYVM.
Complicated scene made to look so easy. True expertise and so nice to be able to watch it . Brilliant !
Thanks, if there’s a bucket list of subjects to paint, this was one of them.
Wonderful sir as always 🎉
Merci pour cette belle demonstration. belle couleur.
Thank you.

Thanks, I hope to return in 2026.
Beautiful painting, and with the creek and beck, in Norwegian we always call smal rivers for bekk😀😀
Thanks for that, it’s truly appreciated.
Oh ! Superb!!!

I’m glad you liked the video, it’s hard to fit the whole process into one! We’re working on longer videos early next year.

I use hand Gessoed MDF 3.8mm Panel with a Melamine backing.
