The UK price for the "ultimate" edition is £119.99, which is $149.43 US at time of writing. We are not in the middle of a crash at all, maybe for Sony due to budget issues but games are doing better than ever right now not worse. Even despite major companies bombing with trend chasing GaaS titles.
We aren't going to see a video games crash any time soon. The video game industry is now bigger than the movie and music industry. The reason there was a crash back in the 80s was because video games were a new thing that many people saw as a fad so companies stopped investing in them. Those Yakuza/LAD games are always mass produced and go down in priced relatively quickly. I get most of them when they hit $20. I've only finished 3 games in the franchise. I like them, however they come out so often and are pretty lengthy so they just go into the backlog when they get cheap.
It likely means the game's total file size exceeds the data capacity of the disc and Ubisoft is too cheap to use a 2nd disc, so the overflow data must be downloaded from the internet.
Makes me sad. However, more and more, I find it easier to shrug games like this type of game off. They are just not for me anymore. I find solace in asking myself, "Have I played every PS2 game I have on my list yet?" - The answer is always "no" :p
Same. The disc is utterly worthless. Activision has done the same thing with the last 3-4 Call of Duty games, as well as Microsoft with Starfield, Halo Infinite, and Forza Horizon 5. Ubisoft also recently did it with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. If they're not going to bother giving the physical version a second disc, don't even bother. It's just environmental waste at that point.
I don’t understand why everyone is surprised that this stuff is happening when it’s pretty much been this way for over 10 years. THEY WANT GAMES TO BE A SERVICE!!!! This is not going to go away anytime soon because the mass majority doesn’t care and will pay the price. The last game I did this for was battlefield 1 when that came out and I got burned because the game sucked compared to 3 and don’t even get me started on 4. I am not in support of this at all but it’s kinda insane that it took this long for people to wake up and pay attention to what’s going on and honestly if this current generation didn’t suck then people still wouldn’t have been paying attention. These are some of the reasons I did not buy a ps5 or series x and instead bought a switch and only buy games that I’m interested in and are complete on the cartridge.
Ubisoft open world games are so safely skippable at this point. If I want a open world fun, other games offer more specialized experiences (The density of Like A Dragon cities, the danger and mystery of elden ring, the wacky contraption traveling in TOTK)
Regarding the physical release on ps5, if this games file size is under 100gbs, which is the maximum storage capacity of a ps5 disc, having an internet requirement for installation is an awfully cynical move by Ubisoft. Just horrible.
The day consoles go digital only is the day I stop buying consoles. The big three always eventually abandon these consoles so the games will be locked on unsupported systems. If there is not a refund policy as simple and no questions asked as Steam too, absolutely no chance.
Yeah, once there’s no disks, you’re just competing with steam really. The fun part of consoles always was that the games were in the shops everywhere and you could hunt for good deals
I feel like if I got a digital artbook I would never look at it, I probably wouldn’t even notice if I could only view it on whichever console I purchased it on
Pricing like this is a test from publishers. They raised base prices to $70 and games still mostly sell at that number. Battle passes still seem to work, and other similar models. This is the next step, charging far north of a hundred dollars and seeing if we’ll buy it. At least these expensive versions used to have a statue or something. Now we get digital art books, digital soundtracks, and other things that cost them nothing to include. What worries me is that, if the sales are low, they won’t think it’s their business model but instead will think “I guess no one likes Star Wars games.” I doubt they’ll get the message.
Uplay and Epic store are blights on the industry. they will make it where you will never be able to play the game again sometime in the future. I don't buy steam games with 3rd party license agreements either. and never NEVER preorder anything non physical. I'm going to play some Blaster Master and then some Potion Maker on steam.
Current gen is the first one I’ve ever happily sat out on. I still enjoy gaming just as much as ever. I’ll get this stuff for peanuts further down the line if I ever end up wanting it.
I know from working at large companies that this is 1000% a board room decision made to please investors. As much as I believe in voting with your wallet, I would say it sadly will not change anything. I think the company would go bankrupt before rolling back these kinds of practices (that is unless of course there is a huge industry-wide backlash, where all companies roll back this type of pricing). Sadly, I also doubt that will happen. Retro for me! lol
Unicorn Overlord released last month, from a smaller dev team and distributor (I assume), and it's $130 collector's edition included a 132 page artbook, a 2 CD soundtrack a CARD GAME, and a nice little box that you could hold. It's still a lot, but it seems way more worth the value. Also, several people seem to criticize the game solely because the main character is unattractive... there are bigger problems.
I feel pretty lucky that most if not all the games I am interested in these days don't have all this extra nonsense attached to them, so this is an easy pass for me. Its also a very good reason to go check out some indie games too!
A physical game that requires connection to an online server to be activated has no purpose. Once the server goes down you'll have the exact same problem as if it was digital. Much the same applies to a whole lot of games that in their unpatched vanilla 1.0 state are very rough and sometimes impossible to play through. You really need to look into the specifics of every release to know if there's any point in buying it physical. 1. Do you need an online server to start the game and 2. has the game been heavily patched since its release. A lot of people are holding onto physical copies as if they're safe, but it might be a false sense of security.
Haven't pre-ordered a game in a long time. Last one was World Of Horror on the Switch and before that, maybe 5-6 years ago. So many games come out buggy or broken and aren't even properly playable for another year after release. It's better to wait a year and then buy the game discounted.
I never ever pay more that the price for the game. If i finished the game and i want more, i can always buy the dlc. But most of the time i done with the game by the time the end credits roll... I have no clue why people would buy for a skin. Or dlc while the game isnt even out yet.... 🤷
I very rarely enjoy games anymore. I was so excited for FF7 Rebirth, but it turned out to be dogwater. Idk the last time I payed $70 for a game and it felt worth it to me. I just feel like I’ve hit that point in my life where it’s time to retire from games. It was a good, long run and I enjoyed it for a long time, but I’m so tired of the same shit over and over.
I pre ordered physical but like the star wars games. The base game doesn't seem like a bad deal if it's a decent game, but I'm not paying 100s for an extra mission and some skins.
I paid $10 extra to play Baldur’s Gate 3 early, and I ended up barely playing before launch 🤡. First and last time I’ll ever pay for early access. On a separate note I’m “over” artbooks, physical or otherwise. A lot of the art that makes it into them is just stuff that woulda been in the game manual if they still made those.
fully agree - if people buy it at full price (even the standard version), then companies like Ubisoft will continue to charge that. But did you not pay full price for Sonic Superstars? 🤣We also need to 'send a message' and 'speak with our wallets' there too 😉
I'll admit I do want this game. I like that you're playing as a seemingly morally Grey group of theives, I like that you're not playing as a dude with a lightsaber. As cool as the Jedi games from Respawn are, a chick with a blaster is a cool star wars thing. But at the same time, why do I buy games brand new anymore? Lost Crown, which IS a good game, has consistently been 35$ dollars the past month or so. I had the Persona 3 remake preordered and paid for, but i had to take it back for money issues. Just bought it a week ago for 30 dollars sealed. I'm not one of those people who are like "erm theres no good games anymore, its just not what it used to be" there's plenty of good games, I just can't adford the big budget ones anymore and they aren't really giving me a reason to buy them right away anymore
A bit of devil's advocate point here, not to defend ubisoft or these practices, but the false argument of "It is already finished so it should be included with no extra charge? Argument logically does not follow. If the content was not even going to be made, aside form the fact the budget counted on it being sold, thenit would not have already been on the disk. If we accepted this argument, then even if the DLC was created long after the game came out, then it should also be free, because when you go to buy it, at that time, "It already exists."
I stopped buying their money milking cash grab slop a long time ago but I'm happy to see more and more people opening up to not putting up with modern gaming bs anymore.
If i were spending $130 on a game, it better be a physical edition with tons of physical goodies AND in game digital stuff. This is ridiculous. Thats why i stick to standard editions mostly.
I buy games used usually. I'm not hyped enough to buy this game day one. I recently bought star wars jedi survivor's for less then have the price used.
Me and my friend are pretty much done with Ubisoft. My last game with ubi was AC Valhalla, after that i was done. I rather support developers who atleast give us demos to play like Stellar Blade.
Digital artbooks are stupid. They're even stupider with how Skullgirls treated their digital artbook. They actually changed the art to be more "PC" ten years after the fact. So if you bought their digital artbook 10 years ago, they were actually able to change it.
Not every company is doing this, don't be dishonest. Going to Support "Stellar Blade" cause of people crying over hot women in games. When we have characters in games like Tomb Raider, Street Fighter, Metroid, Bayonetta, Dead or Alive, Nier Automata, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy series, Social VR Chats, and Second Life. So yeah.. people who have a problem can go Home!
This is one reason why i don't buy AAA games anymore. For one, they don't interest me much. Two, it's bs like this. There's a lot of AA games and retro inspired indie games on Switch that i like. Some of which are physical which is good because i don't support digital.
You can tell these ideas come from people who are not gamers. The base game should be the same no matter how much you pay. $130 for the physical game plus a collectible figure and no one would complain.
Yup, between far cry 6 and the online activation for avatar im done with ubisoft completely. Im never buying another game from EA either. Capcom has been my go to for year but sadly they seem to be heading in this same direction as well.
My ultimate take is the reason they are using this structure is because it has been proven to be the most effective. People willing to buy day one for $70 are just as willing to pay $130. The alternative is the base game alone is $100 for everyone. Of course we should wait for it to be on a subscription service or used because you should do that with every single game because it’s the most thrifty thing to do. Also the dlc argument has been going since viva piñata put dlc on the disc, ultimately I’m just glad it’s something playable and not “get 2x experience for three days”
The only thing I think about is there are plenty of other AAA games that just go with a basic $70 base game and no additional higher priced versions and they do fine. I think we’re being tricked into thinking $130 deluxe editions are a necessary evil so that these games can turn a profit.
I would never pay extra for digital versions, they are still too expensive. Ubisoft especially produces very average games which are hardly even worth buying, the last Assassin's Creed was a lame cash grab too and I'm glad I didn't buy it. The only game of theirs I'm interested is Avatar and I'm only getting it from sale as a physical copy. I still haven't gotten Alan Wake 2 on PS5, because I want a physical copy. Even on sale the digital copy is way too overpriced. I want to feel that I own my big games, I like to see the cover art.
Wow you mean I can pay more to get early access to a game that will most likely need a day one update anyways. Sign me up... for buying it when it's 20 dollars months later.
I don't consider it 3 days early access, everyone who doesn't pay the extra toll is getting it 3 days late. I think games that are £70 are already too expensive. I hate all these multi version releases, they're annoying. So no, I will not be buying this. I'm very selective about the games I buy at this price. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Stellar Blade are the exceptions this year.
Ubisoft has NO SHAME 🥺Almost makes me glad they shelved Beyond Good and Evil 2 because they'd have botched it with live service and or micro transactions.Even though the world building looked incredible..
A lot of Streamers will buy it and reviwers 3 days before. It's probably why this is an option. I'll wait 2 years for thr gamepass version or complete edition for cheap :)
I'm about done with modern games. Sick of the bullshit manipulation tactics. Indie games and Nintendo are the only reason I'm still excited for video games.
It's Ubisoft. In a couple of months it will be disscounted to hell and back. Better be patience and buy when it finally comes to Steam or is in a deep sale
Ps5 is my last console and this generation will probably be my last, interested what the switch 2 is but with business practices like this and an ever looming digital future I’m alright I’ll jus play older stuff no dlc no online connectivity no day 1 patches im good
This is not right you should be able to buy the full game on a disc and not only give half game and download the rest to play the game that's why I will not buy a new console, I prefer to play ps3 and xbox 360
It's crazy to me just how many of these mediocre Star Wars games they keep pumping out. It feels like there's a new one every other month now. Who's buying these?!
I mean they ain't, if it bombs it will bomb. What is killing modern AAA games are absurd AAA budgets. These things happen because people buy them, this has been a thing for nearly 10 years it is not new by any means. I understand telling people to ignore it and being annoyed by how the physical works (which has also been a thing for a decade). The only way to deal with this is to support games that don't which people are doing on mass, the biggest games of the year so far are all cheaper and high quality titles. These prices though have been the case since the change to 70.

Easiest way for me to not even give the game a look in. I'd rather put that 120 towards a few more Dreamcast games for my collection
Sometimes with physical switch games that have the download, the reprint of the game actually has it on the cart.
It isn’t 3 day early access, the basic tier is 3 days late . Quite a scummy practice
I miss the time that developers would anounce a season pass months after the base game got released because people actually wanted more from the game.
Makes me think of Dead or Alive 2: Ultimate that had 167 costumes that you unlocked by playing the game. No need for DLC or anything.
And then look at the mess of Dead or Alive 6. They murdered the franchise with the insane paid dlc for that game.
I never ever pay more that the price for the game. If i finished the game and i want more, i can always buy the dlc. But most of the time i done with the game by the time the end credits roll... I have no clue why people would buy for a skin. Or dlc while the game isnt even out yet.... 🤷
can you do a video on what games on demand people should buy on the 360 store, including 360 Arcade, before the 360 store shuts down in July?
🤣We also need to 'send a message' and 'speak with our wallets' there too 😉
I wouldn't buy any UBI Game at any price at this point, because even single player games have online DRM.
love games. now I wait a year or two to buy new games to get the whole game. its ridiculous
wasnt planning on playing this garbage anyways, I only want to support quality, thats why im paying for a $40 DLC when it comes to Elden Ring.
me still playing my ps2. and discovering new old games that i paid 10 bucks for.
It's $200 for the ultimate edition in Australia.
I'll be playing it used at a 9.99 USD price tag. Ubisoft can go somewhere.
So yeah.. people who have a problem can go Home!
this will be on mega sale if we all don't put up with this shit and refuse to buy...
With basic inflation isn’t this what games should cost?
Why are you letting billion dollar corporations doing billion dollar corporation things stop you from enjoying games??? Never will understand that
My ultimate take is the reason they are using this structure is because it has been proven to be the most effective.
Knowing Ubisoft in 6 months there games are usually down To 25 dollars so just hold out
I would never pay extra for digital versions, they are still too expensive.
It's so funny how people still buy this stuff lol. You guys did it to yourselves long ago.
I'm a big Star Wars fan, so I'm gunna play this... at some point. Absolutely not a full price purchase for me.
Wow you mean I can pay more to get early access to a game that will most likely need a day one update anyways. Sign me up... for buying it when it's 20 dollars months later.
Buying less and less games as Time goes on
Never buy a game at launch, for one it's always buggy. Then wait 6 months and get the game at 70% off with all the content intended for the game
Gonna wait until its $10 at the bargain bin
pretty sickening tbh
You can’t kill something which is already dead. AAA gaming needs a reset.
A lot of Streamers will buy it and reviwers 3 days before. It's probably why this is an option. I'll wait 2 years for thr gamepass version or complete edition for cheap :)
Yeah it forces streamers to spend $110 so they have a chance to stream it early for their audience. No thanks.
I'm about done with modern games. Sick of the bullshit manipulation tactics. Indie games and Nintendo are the only reason I'm still excited for video games.
Daily Pete vids? Im all here for it.
I can't believe any body would pay 120$ for a game that will probably be trash wow the future sucks
Everything in the Ultimate edition will be available at a third of the price within a year.
This game doesn't deserve to be even pirated. That's how bad it is .
It's Ubisoft. In a couple of months it will be disscounted to hell and back. Better be patience and buy when it finally comes to Steam or is in a deep sale
Just don’t buy it then 😂
Every UBISOFT and EA game ends up being $10-$5 anyway
Ps5 is my last console and this generation will probably be my last, interested what the switch 2 is but with business practices like this and an ever looming digital future I’m alright I’ll jus play older stuff no dlc no online connectivity no day 1 patches im good
The nice thing about Ubisoft is if you wait a few months they usually discount their games quite a bit.
Prince of Persia Lost Crown is already down to $30.
This is why i ride the high seas
Digital Artbook=Google Search
dont give Ubishit any money guys, play some Startrek instead.
Disgusting what they do
It’s Ubisoft, wait a few days and it’ll be on sale
This is not right you should be able to buy the full game on a disc and not only give half game and download the rest to play the game that's why I will not buy a new console, I prefer to play ps3 and xbox 360
Imagine buying a ubisoft game lol
If anybody tells me they work on modern games, it’s an instant snub.
Number one best seller on PlayStation store so people can only themselves when everything goes tits up
Just don’t buy it? No big deal. Problem solved. Or sign up to Ubisoft get the game for a month for 17.99 then cancel the sub.
Daamn, 129$ 😂
$100 isnt anything anymore, where you been?
I saw a game today on Xbox for 1,999.99.
I will be skipping Outlaws. I have never bought a Ubisoft game in my life and will continue not to. Not even for Star Wars
It’ll be $19.99 in six months
