- At long last, here is your happy ending!
Story:
Player died in hardcore mode. The dog had no idea, so the two waited for each other for years. Eventually, the dog dies and meets the player again in heaven and both live happily ever after :)
I was going to use Steve, but he's too epic to die that easily with his dog left behind

This is one of the only online things I've cried at, the other was a memorial my friends held during 2020 for my cats that passed when I was young.
A wonderful bittersweet reunion, after so long the Minecraft dog and the hardcore player are reunited under the sweet glowing sky, hearts full of warmth, cheeks sore from smiling and eyes dripping, finally, they are at peace…
The sequel we didn’t deserve.

I am so glad this got resolved in a wholesome way
I know this sounds childish but when I stopped playing Minecraft I went into all my old worlds I could access and let all my pets go to roam the wild because I couldn’t bear the thought of them waiting forever for me to return when I may never return. Eventually I came back though and was able to find most of them again and it legit made me cry so much. It’s childish but I just became so attached to them.

I'm not sure who suffered more. The player who died and spent years watching his companion wait diligently for him before dying, or the dog who waited for his owner's return only for it to never happen until he was dead.
