Passed today! I was so nervous, but the examiner was very calm and clear. Temperature 1'C, the ice had just melted, lots of school busses, 1:30pm. This was my second try. First try in July the examiner was tense, in a hurry and even raised his voice at me, in Calgary, made my heart beat fast. (I have been driving for years, but after moving to Canada had to change my foreign driver's license to a Canadian one ) But I had the nicest examiner today, in New Brunswick. I definitely agree to find where the nearest school area is, as you don't want drive into the school area during the test, miss the sign, and get caught going over 30km/h! Almost happened to me during the test: went left on a busy complex intersection, right into a school area. Didn't see any sign, so the sign must've been at the beginning of the intersection (whereas, I was busy looking into the turn, and at traffic around me), as I was driving into the school area street, there was a car in front of me and I was wondering "Why is this car going a bit slow?...". I then looked over to my left and saw a school there... "Oh!!... *Phew*, thank you, car, for being there!..."
Hi Cory - yes, I once had a student fail because of a school zone. And we practiced there, but he was so nervous that he forgot about the sign. Still, he was driving a rig, and it was one of the toughest corners on the test, so it really wasn't fair. And yes, some times other traffic can save the day. All the best my friend. Cheers Rick

I failed the road test for the 3rd for failing to yield to pedestrians. I was about to apply the brake when the pedestrian was crossing the sidewalk, but the examiner apply the brake fast. I also kept on applying the gas pedal the wrong way. My turning is a little too wide. Need more practice!

Hey Rick, was just wondering what a flashing orange light does? From my observations, people still have to yield when turning left, but I'm not sure what it is. Im referring to the on at the intersection of Macpherson Ave and Spadina Rd located in Toronto.
Hi Andrew - thank you for your comment and query. Yes, it is a cautionary light that accompanies the hazard obstruction sign, which tells drivers to squeeze left. Have a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/ZPI3T1im1o4/v-deo.html I suspect authorities put the light up because drivers kept running over the curb at the point where the road narrowed. My test for my G is wed close to noon I have been driving for a few years but I did get a teacher to help if I needed someone help in areas I have been trying to get out as much as I can the test is in a city and I live in town and there has been a lot of snow but i am trying my best to get a lot of practice in I know I will do well but I bad nervous so I hope that goes away.

Hi Rick. I have a question for you. Is the drive test instructor supposed to rush you while doing your drive test? I went and did my test in August and I failed. The instructor came in the car and started rushing me. "Hurry up we have to Go, I have a lot of test today so we got to Go" He made me so nervous I started making mistakes. When doing my 3 point turn he says to me " move faster we got to Go, we only have 20mins for this test and we have a lot of people to deal with today He just kept rushing me. I was so uncomfortable, all I was thinking about was to move fast, mistakes I never made before I made them on that day. Now I don't even want to go back behind the wheel of a car. Are the instructors always going to rush you because they want to get as many test done as possible? Aren't they suppose to grade you based on your skills and how competent you are at driving a car? Thank you.

I was beginning to think that I just had to accept the behaviour as that's how it's gonna be and I should just learn to handle the pressure while driving.😥 You have no idea how much better I feel and I will talk to the manager the next time I go to the center. Hi Mike - thanks you for your comment and query. You have some time before your test. I would suggest that you practice in and around the schools during that time of day. Just go out and drive around the school area and increase you scanning to look for children. And you are justified in driving slower to give you more time to scan. As well, be sure that you locate any schools in and around the test centre where you're going to be taking your test. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help.
