I'm a terrible putter. Still am. I started playing jyly every weekend just to measure progress. I try to putt a few times a week. I was averaging 230 at the beginning of the year. I'm now hitting about 350. Improvement just about every week. It's helpful!
10:54 really solid tip that i think will change my game bcuz i especially when im tired seem so miss slightly right and i know its bcuz im not moving forward on straight line when putting its slightly left to right and forward etc.
That little quick exhale might actually be adding a little more power to your put. To use an example from another sport, in boxing we are taught to quickly and sharply exhale as we’re throwing the punch (1) so that your breathing is correct but (2) the quick core contraction make the strike quite a bit harder.
I heard someone else also saying that when they looked at videos of their poor performance the exhale were missing and they knew it meant the timing of the finger-pop is off from the get-go.
I was always told breathing out like that was to, one control your breath and energy, but also mainly to avoid getting the wind knocked out of you if you got countered to the body
Dude your putting is the best part of your game, in my opinion. I’m quite envious of it. This video resonates with me because about 2 weeks ago I finally found a consistent stroke putting, after playing 10-12 years ago, taking a 10 year hiatus, then starting up again 8-9 months ago. And for me it was focusing on an up-and-down stroke (staggered) that I can repeat over and over again, and my % has gone up significantly. Still though, I envy your putting skills!
I've been really enjoying watching your progress and improvements, mainly because I feel I'm also on that same journey. I've been playing for almost 2 years now (playing regularly for roughly 18 Months) and I've been really working hard on every aspect of my game. I always considered making videos to document my progress but for now I'll just continue to watch and improve alongside you!
It's a commitment to putter, grip, putting stroke....but most importantly....committment to PRACTICE. That, in my opinion, is what most people lack. Just going to the course, going to a basket, and throwing a few putts, isn't practice. It's warm-up. Practice is spending time putting from different spots over and over until you get it right.
im glad you said IF you can get comfortable with the putter you can putt with whatever disc .. i can put with any disc however deep dish pizza putters i cant putt with bcuz of it being too uncomfortable.. i do think how slick a disc comes into play tho bcuz im pretty sure grippy discs catch better which will add strokes to your game no doubt!
That putting app/game sounds interesting, I'll have to try it. I enjoy (mostly) practicing my putting and I have a basket in my backyard. However, I have scoliosis (my spine curves the wrong way)...since practice putting means throwing more putts in a row than you would do on a course, my back is in pain after about 20 putts. It's due to the slight twisting of the body/spine as the putter comes out. I've tried a straddle (edited to correct from stagger) putt, but I just don't get enough power on it and am only good to 15 feet. With a staggered stance, I'm good out to 20 feet, but much more pain after practice. I'm wondering if the game/app will vary things up enough that my pain will be reduced and I'll be able to get in more practice time. I also like the thought of paint the spine and then paint the pole. I'll have to give that a try the next time I head out back to practice (I'm recovering today from yesterday's practice).
An error a lot of us do (including myself) is just throwing a lot of putters, with too little focus. It is better to focus more on each putt and making them count. This is also key in deliberate practice, which is the way to go if you want to bevome better. The app will help making every putt count, since it will show up on your daily scoring. Also there are games where you putt from a different distance everytime to get in some variation.
I have scoliosis too! Metal rod attached to my spine. Luckily, it hasn't impacted my game. But I do exercise a lot to make sure the muscles can support my shifty alone. Lol!
@Matt Powers Mine is 20 degrees, so I didn't "need" the rod or back brace...but I barely met the requirements to join the Air Force way back when. I do some stretches and see a chiropractor, but too much repeative motion does cause me issues. I have found a TENS machine works wonders for my back when I can't see the chiropractor.
Follow-up on the DG Putt app. The unlocked "games" use multiple putters, like the StormPutt shows 6 putters. I only have 2 of the same kind, so I did three sets of throws. The nice part about that is that the walks back and forth to get my 2 putters gave my back a break and required me to line up my putts again....and in play, you don't throw 6 putters one after the other...so it is more realistic. I did pretty well with that and I'm looking forward to using it some more. If I do find that I'm continuing to use it, I'll upgrade to the paid version....i really want to try Survival.
i went through all the discs i considered a shallow grippy putter took me forever to get it but my short putts 30ft and closer go to my R-PRO Pig and its money i couldnt find a Pig with more glide thats shallow and grippy in Innova but i did however find the ENVY in electron to fit the bill for my 35ft-55ft putts the ENVY also is a signature series from James Conrad idk if that makes a difference to regular mold etc but now i dont miss.. ONLY time i cant putt is when im tired!
I have a little saying I use as my routine. "Stance. Grip. Line. Rip." I get my stance right and stable. I make sure I have the right grip. I build a line in my mind from me to the basket (or even to a layup spot). Then Rip, where I focus on executing that line. It has its own rhythm and allows me to focus best before I putt.
When I play against stratle putters, I noticed they missed WAY More than us that puts one foot forward. I'm glad you figured out it doesn't work better unless your Garrett Guthrie. I've taken mental notes of this sne even gotten some to change and they shoot better.
You went from hole 5 to hole 9. Did you play the long ones but not include them since it's a putting video? It's awesome watching you play at my local courses.
I only putt with a Nomad, but I don't have a plethora of Nomads to practice with. Do you think it's bad practice to just use whatever putters I have to prectice with (they're all different) or to slowly invest in more Nomads?
You will come a long way with practicing with the putts you have. I normally put with 5 of the same putters, but sometimes challenge myself with a mix of different putters.
I found out that, when i start playing tournaments, i cant use a jump/straddle putt inside circle 1. So now i have to go back to workkng the old skool way, with the staggered stance. Seems odd to me you have to hold a certain stance
Edit; Just got home and bumped the quality from Savings 360p portrait to 1080p landscape and realized the trick being a split view xD Letting the original sit down there. Original comment; What did you use as the backdrop to get such a nice Anthony-dolly? The blue sky? At home afterwards before changing the clothing? Before going out doing action filming?
i also think when im tired im letting my chest be more pointed towards ground .. gotta keep Gorilla Pose .. yep just coined that just now Gorilla Pose .. 14:51
my goal is to putt flat i naturally want to putt nose up BUT when winds kick up i have to witch to flat otherwise the wind takes control so for me putting flat is key and having some zip on it more from confidence rather then arming it but yeah..
People often ask me why I'm so good with my approach shots. It's because I can't putt worth a shit. It's hard for me to get birdies when my tee shot has to be within 8 ft of the basket.
Bro I feel that in my soul. Pulled every shot right until I started aiming for the furthest chain on the left side of the basket. Night and day putting for me now 🤷♂️
Not sure where you're at with your swing but your back leg looks real swingy and heavy. When you were with drew, I thought you did a good job of driving that back leg and finishing a bit more balanced. Just an observation for what it's worth.
Dope timelapse man 😎 I also think the breath is helping because it’s making sure you are activating your core muscles.
Your making amazing videos my dude. Appreciate the work your putting in on the production side if things. Cheers
Thanks for the putting tips, it is such an important part of the game.
Just registered for my first tournament. Gonna be using that app probably close to everyday for the next 4 weeks until the tournament.

@@Iliyena87 come to think about it, this breath/timing thing may be more applicable to driving.

@@joshnelson6274 totally agree, just kinda glossed over that part because I didn’t want to get too long winded about boxing on a disc golf thread.
Thanks for all the knowledge you have us on putting. I'm looking forward to implementing your suggestions.
I’m going to a big tournament so this helped a lot thx

nice job selecting a shirt that matches your putters! ;-) 00:56
Great video got a bunch of good info in this video and the mechanic putting video
15:27 the exhale of breath reminds me of someone in karate doing the hiya noise to make their strikes stronger and quicker etc.
love seeing your journey! great video. Here's to many more

Do you ever play Expo park in aurora or village green?
Molt (Michael Holt) really emphasizes the breathing during putting on his channel as well. He is like the taller version of you. 🙂

im not sure changing ones putts for wind is best to me a flat putt on straight line can handle any wind only thing one must change is height of putt

right to left tailwind is my hardest wind then def headwind but i know the fixes just hard to implement at all times

Gateway Houdini review sometime maybe? I'm curious how close it is to a aviarx3 at 3 3 0 3 and they have platinum nylon ones (platinum is god tier)
Gateway has 2 badass putters I bag and use almost every round: the wizard and the devil hawk. I've hit some crazy short and blind shots with both.
