    How to rosin your bow for the first time. A new bow may not have any rosin. If you use it to play it will not make any sound. You need to put enough rosin on your bow to make a layer of powdery rosin over the full length of the bow hair.

      Yeah, no one cares about helping the hearing impaired learn how to play music because that's like asking a blind person to drive, or asking any kind of disabled man to be a viable husband and father for his wife and kids. People half-ass accessibility to the disabled because we have no value whatsoever. Don't worry about the captions being corrected; laughing at the Deaf will always be fashionable and in style. :)

    • @winstonchurchill624
      @winstonchurchill624 6 років тому +14

      Pirate Boy I can’t tell if this is sarcastic or serious. Anyway, if you expect the blind person to drive, you are extremely stupid. No one says a disabled person can’t be a good husband and father, you’re just making this stuff up.

      Will Roth Wow that went RIGHT OVER YOUR HEAD....
      ~He’s making an EXCELLENT POINT to the OP in this comment thread, about how making comments like the one that he did...as well as the person who responded. And because you CLEARLY missed that point, I will help you out ~It’s insensitive as hell! They’re treating an EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TOOL(closed captioning) as if it’s there for their entertainment, to get a good laugh at some of the funny mistakes/etc....when it’s CLEARLY there for the hearing impaired, who must find it quite Frustrating when things like those inaccuracies happen because they’re OBVIOUSLY relying on that 100% to be able to understand what’s going on in the video. Hope this helps you! As well as those insensitive A$$ kids who clearly get there rocks-off & laughs out of a tool that’s necessary to be utilized by AT LEAST 466MILLION HEARING IMPAIRED throughout the world as of 2018

    Very helpful, I have watched several videos on rosining and you are the first to mention the metal piece and not to touch the hair. I watched a lady who suggested to hold the hair in place while rosining! I am getting my first violin tomorrow and wanted to educate myself a bit before opening the case and laying eyes on my own violin. I will definitely be watching more of your videos for helpful info, you seem very professional.

    I'm a luthier, and was taught by one of the best, in the U.S. He told me to first, granulate part of the rosin, into powder. Then, work the powder into the hair, with your fingers. This is the best way to do it, I've tried just going back and forth with the rosin, as shown here, and it isn't as good. It takes only about 5 minutes, but it has to be done more frequently, the next few times. And you should only put on rosin, after your bow starts slipping again, don't over due it.

    Hi Andrew. We must have been using the same translator in our videos. I did one on maintaining a fireplace door seal with captioning. The captioning would have led you to believe you were being told how to boil down seal blubber! Despite the obvious unintentional humor (Thank you for leaving it up BTW), I learned exactly what I needed to know as a complete neophyte sitting here today with bow in hand and no idea how to properly apply rosin. Great, useful info, and I hope, a shared chuckle with you.

    Thank you! Here's two things:
    - Spreading the resin is an even bigger mystery after this video. I just looked at Joel Kennedy's instructions, and he specifically forbade this 15 cm at a time application method and advised to pull the bow back and forth at a steady speed from end to end. So I'm none the wiser in the middle of this mess! I believe this way, bit by bit, some spots can get twice the amount of resin. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
    - I would also be interested in learning what physics works between the resin and the strings, and whether the resin dust travels from one place to another in the strings - after all, the resin is spread over the entire surface, but playing only takes place on one edge. So when playing, does the resin dust flow from one side of the string slowly to the side that produces the sound? is the whole thing due to static electricity, or how does the resin work? And how does the resin affect how the sound is produced? Don't say nobody knows. Thank you!

They showed me how to hold my bow, and practice finger placement. That was about it. So now I'm just learning things like this and how to get the best sound, and it makes a huge difference in my playing. Thanks again!

    Your video was very helpful. I watched it first than had my daughter watch it as well. She's almost 7 and was able to follow your instructions and rosin her bow! Thank you very much:)

    Thanks for that. I'm an ex pro musician (Piano/Keyboards) 50 years, Thought I'd have a mess around with a fiddle. Starting from scratch. Very informative, thanks. Keep Rockin' Gus. UK.

    Thank you for the instruction video Andrew. You're instruction were clear and easy to follow. I am 55 years old and have always wanted to learn how to play. Thankfully I live alone in a single family home with well insulated walls. That way no one can hear me play. :-)

    I was gifted my grandfather's violin. At 200 years old, It was really in bad shape, so I had the fiddle and bow restrung, a new bridge was built, totally tuned. Although the bow was restrung, it was warped so, that was fixed, as well . We agreed that I should purchase a new bow if I plan to play, as the condition of the original looks great, but is very delicate. Any suggestions of a bow for a beginner?
