Ethan, I hear you loud and clear bud. Take care of your fam! Excellent work being modest & taking your god-given responsibility as a provider serious! Kudos man!
Stay strong buddy! Take all the time you need and things will fall inline. Your content stands out really well and helped a lot get introduced to the sport or even improve and be better and stronger paddlers. Reset, rest and come back stronger 💪🏼🤙🏼
We hear you Ethan and understand. Content creation is tougher than many think and it’s hard balancing a job that is also a hobby and life . We have been there too. Take a step back, and you will come back stronger . Thinking of you and your family. ❤
Ánimo, después de la tormenta siempre sale el sol! I have been following your videos from Spain and I have learned a lot from them, specially how to paddle straight! Many thanks! 🙏
Ethan, your tips made water sport enjoyable for me and surely for many others. This joy will return to you in some form. Take care! Greetings from another hemisphere
My husband and I have watched some of your content when we started new to paddle boarding last year. It was a great help. Thank you! See you when you are back at it.
Ethan, I'm grateful for the content you created, it was profound, you shared a lot of things that others ask for money to share, thank you for everything! Stay strong, the best for you and your family! 🙏🏽
Wishing you peace and joy 🙏 I also wanted to comment on how big of an impact your channel has had. I found your channel when you had only 3 or 4 videos out. I had just gotten my board, had no clue what I was doing, but knew that I would be hooked as soon as I figured it out 😂 (there are no instructors in my area) Your videos helped me tremendously and helped me to avoid a lot of bad habits. For various reasons, I was unable to stand up on my board...until today 😁 And once I was up I knew what to do because I've watched all of your videos multiple times. Now I'm going through them again because I see what I need to work on and refine. Thank you so much for being my "instructor" these past few years! May God be with you and your family in this season and beyond ❤
Thanks for sharing! I have said it before, we have a lot of similarities, not only paddling and UA-cam. We also had a hard time before getting our two kids. Also now what you are talking about with job, family and time consuming UA-cam with recording and editing and doing all by yourself. Sometimes I don’t feel for it all and other times I get so much energy from it and are just happy. It comes and goes. I recently skipped to think that I should do a weekly video and ended up with more energy, so the result is that I do so far, but if I don’t do it, I have already decided that I don’t do a weekly video and it’s not a problem. I hope you soon find the energy in your life! Take care of you and do what gives you energy and sometimes do what feels hard but you know it will give you joy in the end🤗
Thanks so much for sharing your challenges. Balancing family, work, fitness and passions is definitely difficult. I'm in my late 50s and have been through many challenging seasons of figuring it all out. That fact that you are voicing these times, is so healthy. You will work through them and come out stronger on the other side.
Thank you for all of the useful content you created during your journey up to this point. Best wishes in this next chapter. Good things will unfold for you.
Thank you for sharing your ‘raw’ struggles with life & the pause you need to take for you. You’ve been instrumental in my paddle boarding experience, getting me out on the water with good technique, encouraging me to keep improving, setting goals & THIS, trusting in where I’m at physically, mentally & my own seasons. I appreciate you so much & am sending you positive energy for your transition back to the US, for you & your family , for all the good things to come for you.
Thank you for sharing Ethan. Your humanity is part of what makes you a great teacher. Letting go of the expectation, and allowing life to flow is a daily challenge. I am new to paddle boarding. I have a chronic condition, and sometimes have trouble trusting my body. I really hear you. Blessings to you and your family.
Oh man, thanks for all the inspiration you are giving us by sharing all of that. For us humans out here that is a story all of us can relate to. I have been doing all sorts of sports (martial arts for 30+ years for one) mixing it with challenging work and here is the deal. We are not professional athletes. It is not our way to make cash like the Olympic crowd etc. That doesn't mean we are bad or we can't compete for championship. It basically means two things. First - we are doing it for fun and to keep in shape. Second - we will always have other things to do so the breaks will always happen. Also any goal that you set is not a threshold that decides whether you are worthy but rather a way to measure your own state. So if you don't meet that goal it just means that right now you have something else to focus. That goal is a reference, not a life changer. We got into the sport because we love it, not because we beat ourselves to death with achievements. Please remember that the only thing that is driving us is love. For sport in this particular case. I myself have bumped into this state many times. My GF calls me "a flower sniffing champion" because I burden myself with goals (which is fine) but then I let them suck the joy out of any activity. Which is absolutely not. Long story short. First - remember that joy is the only reason. Goals are secondary. Measurement, not a judge. Second - life happens. And it is also not a thing you have to deal with, it's just something equally important. Take a break from sports, shuffle the stuff and get back. We are in full support! It's not always sweating, sometimes you need to just chill. Side note - you are a lucky guy to have a trade like bus driving up your sleeve. That is a great backup option that will never keep you hungry. Not a lot of people have that. Well done! I wish I had something like that in my disposal for the times when crap hits the fan. Probably have to try and get a truck driver license. Also probably something to cheer you up - your content is traveling the globe. Been watching you for a long time, Saint-Petersburg/Moscow, Russia. Hugs and love =)
I’ve been listening to this and hear you talk about “reverse culture shock”, and all I can remember is moving back to Canada a decade ago… from Sarasota, Florida. That is where I learned to paddleboard, and even now that I am also in the Pacific Northwest, in Vancouver, I still miss paddle boarding the intercoastal waterways in Sarasota Bay. It’s a shame that you’re not able to go this year, but aim for next year, or anytime that’s not hurricane season if you guys can swing it to get down there and have some fun. It will be a great paddle boarding experience! A lot of those bays are very shallow (3-4 feet deep) on the Gulf Coast of Florida, so you have plenty of things to see in the water - cormorants, anhingas, and of course manatees. 😃 Even getting used to having defined seasons will be something for you and your family to experience again that’s kind of a weird culture shock of being in the north. I’m not sure if you’re originally from the Pacific Northwest, but we descend into darkness in the winter, much more than you would be used to being at a lower latitude in Mexico. That’s going to also take some time and some grace to get used to as well, so it is something to be aware of especially if you are prone to seasonal affective disorder. The fall colours in the Pacific Northwest aren’t quite as vibrant as the northeast, but it will be a nice transitional time into winter. The good news though is come February/March/April, you will notice that we start to gain daylight back as quickly as we’re going to lose it in the coming weeks, so all of a sudden everything will be good again. And we also have cherry blossom season that can happen anywhere from mid March to mid May!
Thank you for all you do on this channel. Your passion for the sport is inspiring. Enjoy your break to get the important things in life in place....we will be here when you're ready to start creating again.
Thanks for sharing and take care of yourself and your family! We appreciate your content but you don't owe us anything. :) Thanks for helping me discover and fall in love with this sport.
Just discovered your excellent channel Ethan, and glad I took the time to watch this video too. Good to see a channel that is run by a believer in the real creator. Going home after living abroad can be a real challenge and putting food on the table is always a priority. Good luck and thanks for the excellent videos.
I lived in Asia for many years in my 20s and 30s. Am back in the States now and want to say reverse culture shock is a real thing. My experience was that in the beginning everything was hard but gradually it smoothed out. I hope you find some peace and take good care.
I love your content and apply it to how I can become a faster paddler. However, taking care of yourself comes first. I can't wait to see you if you decide to come back with more awesome content!
Thanks for sharing. I hope you find peace and strength. You've contributed a lot to the community and sport on your own time and dime and we all are better for it. Enjoy and appreciate your time with family and friends who love and support you. We'll be here when you're ready.
Hi Ethan, I've just started paddle boarding here in the UK, your videos have been so helpful, thank you, and good luck, hope everything works out for you
I’ve greatly enjoyed your SUP teachings and learned much from your vids. I’m 64 and I’ve been round the block a few times. Maybe it’s time for you to change things in your life, keep an open mind and dare to take new roads and leave some things behind. Scrutinize your priorities and decide after careful consideration what you have to do. Give this time to mature and take decisions according to what is necessary and best for you and your loved ones. Good luck Ethan !
Hasta pronto Ethan, gracias por abrir tu corazón, la familia va primero. Nos dejas mucha tarea, tenemos mucho que aprenderle al mejor. Esperamos no defraudarte a tu pronto regreso. ❤ 🏄♂️ 🌊 🤙🏼🙏🏼
yo dude! thanks for sharing. I know how much work you are putting in to make such quality videos. I think you've done an awesome job. I hope you can find balance and still make the occasional video. but it's gotta be fun. take care of yourself, good luck with everything!
Currently Training for ultra trail races, but really want to do more SUP racing. I appreciate you sharing more about your heart and life. Consider reading I Peter and the encouragement he gives us about suffering. It is difficult for me to relate my struggles to Peter and to those of the early church, but we have disappointment. Peter had disappointments when he corrected Jesus about going to the cross and Jesus rebuked him. Peter did not embrace suffering, Peter just prior had a revelation from God on who Jesus is. Confident that you know all of this, but we forget what God brought us through, we struggle to embrace difficult seasons. I am growing and challenged to "walk in the spirit" in each season of life, along with call to "crucify the flesh". My path has to do with following the Lord when there is no clear plan or path. To keep being faithful in the direction that I saw him last. That sounds super spiritual but when it lasts more than a day and you really want to hear from God and follow him, it gets difficult. But it is good because it is the work and path that he has for me. What you do is making a difference and is a blessing to many both on your mission work and your efforts in the SUP community. Peace.
Hey! Just keep up your training. Are you sure where you are paddling there are not different currents or wind conditions that are contributing to your times being a bit off? Different areas have different variables that affect speeds in any given day. Can't wait to get my Everready!
Life is full of ups and downs. These days information is at hand in all sorts of media. One day you can be choofing along with no worries the next hit a wall. Randomoly pick up a book about Non Duality Teachers and bingo my inner light was lit. :)
Dude, even the weather will get you down around here. I have so many clients who are transplants and this weather wears them down, I don't really notice it too much because this is what I am used to. I can't tell you how many of them stick their head in a light box once a day to trick their brain into feeling that they are back in the sun even for a short period of time. I had to step back from paddling because I found that I was becoming obsessed with the weather patterns around here during the summer, fall, winter and spring. If I saw a chance to paddle, I was bummed if I couldn't get out on the water and then bummed when I had the time and was planning on going ,but, the weather was complete garbage. My wife noticed my moods and I had to take a step back to really look at what is important, but, just so you know.. Watching your videos always gets me amped up to want to go out paddling. I think it is why I have always done so many different outdoor activities that are season specific, the weather that makes paddling crappy makes good snow in the mountains,. Hiking on days when it is rainy and windy, with nobody is out there is awesome too. Same goes for hunting and fishing. When one door closes, another one opens. We just have to be smart enough to take advantage of those opportunities, no matter how strange, or new, they may be.
Ethan, I hear you loud and clear bud. Take care of your fam! Excellent work being modest & taking your god-given responsibility as a provider serious! Kudos man!

Definitely agree with that! The weather can definitely have an effect on the mood for the day. Just have to learn to appreciate it for what it is. 😁
