Little Cat vs 2 big dogs

Our cat loves his yard and also likes sitting at the gate but he really dislikes dogs. I have to try and stop him but haven't worked out how. The latest was 2 large dogs that thought they found a cat to terrorise but they were lucky the gaps in the fence weren't big enough for him to hit them but it never stopped him trying.
