the fg manifold you can buy from aeroflow brand new for $500 on ebay and fits much better between the strut tower and sohc, the stock fg dump also allows a wideband to screw in for a haltech 750
South East Asia is a cool place, I was in Singapore at the start of the year and it was around 32 degrees but over 90% humidity. It's one of the worst things I have ever experienced
@@blownhemi invest in an electric pedestal fan mate! If ya can put it near the window or door...all the better to get some 'cooler' air into the workshop.
U can turn a ba -bf manifold upside down to make mounting of turbo on top …. Works a treat … can’t do that with a fg as fouls on power steer bracket … but try that
as a other viewer said jack up the right side engine mount and maybe lower the left side and make a angled spacer to go the rear mount, being the trans.
Scotty at the end of the day it's 12s For $2k. The AU doesn't have to look pretty nor does the engine bay. As long as everything is secure & it works. It's never going back as a registered car. I'm enjoying the content (even though I'm a Holden man). You do know that AU (apart from being gold on the periodic table) stands for Awfully Ugly. Let the AU earn its rep that way.
How much clearance behind the motor as a top mount for an exhaust might be an issue , When turbo is mounted in the low position would an inch or 2 spacer lower it away from the bolt enough Scotty . Top mount seem's to have more issue's like heat n exhaust but I cant see it like you can .
Suggestion, you could just use a factory turbo off a BA, it should fit into the slot, of course finding a factory BA turbo that has not been bused ... well that's another thing, love your work scotty, love this project more than the sponsors ute.
Scotty you need to get some bonnet strut clamps makes it easier to work on with no stick or pole in the way and certain ones come with spark plug gap tool built in..
Scotty, do you reckon if you lengthened the drivers side engine mount and tilted the engine towards the passengers side you might get the clearance you need. Might have to modify the fan shroud a little. With the motor on a tilt it might qualify to for a Valiant badge
@@blownhemi Scotty, only talking about 15mm lift on the engine mount might give you about 25mm where you where going to mount the turbo drop an engine bolt out and jack the motor up on one side and see, your call
Ok lets try again... Probably won't like this suggestion considering what you have spent already, but there is a cheaper and better way to do this. And that is to build your own. Exhaust shops want you to believe the is some kind of black magic involved to charge ridiculous money for a custom manifold, and I spent that fortune only to receive complete garbage. So I decided I could do better myself. I did a video showing the process of the build. It was far simpler than you might think. The steel head flange is a fraction of the cost you paid for that adapter as it is a straight forward laser cut, and can often be bought off the shelf or you can have your own cut. The steam pipe bends are fairly cheap. You already have an electric glue gun in the form of a welder. I did all the fabrication on mine but didn't do the final welding only because I didn't own a MIG at the time. I think we have comparable welding skills. I wouldn't hesitate to do it today. You can also save money on getting the housing modified and do what I did, which is to build the wastegate pipe into the manifold, making piping less complicated.
Yeah, I certainly considered doing that, and nothing is off the table. If I change anything, I just remove that item from the budget and then add whatever else I did in it's place. If the budget needs the $390-400, then I'll just use the factory exhaust manifold upside down.
@@blownhemi I don't know if you saw the video I am referring to, but the first one I bought off a so called "expert" muffler shop turned out to be complete garbage (worth the look just to see how poorly they did) it cost $1000, the second replacement one I got done by Liverpool Exhaust in Sydney (another $1000) was a massive improvement. When I decided I wanted to both turbo and supercharge the SR20. I had trouble getting them to understand my vision for the next manifold. So I got the two flange plates off them (head and turbo) and a number of steam pipe bends. Between using sticky tape to hold them in position, and a grinder to make the precise angles, I got it perfect. I even put a divider plate in between the two halves to make it a split plenum manifold (mostly to stop the two sides crashing into each other). Was far simpler than I ever imagined and worked better than the expensive ones.

It's a cheap turbo. Why not leave it low mount and cut/ shut the compressor housing to clear the bolt? Those ignition leads will get baked with top mount config even with sleeves
No idea how the A arm bolts up on the other side but could you turn the bolt into a stud? Weld in a plate then weld in a bolt through it and grind flat so you just have the nut on the wheel side not engine bay side. That would give you the clearance you need? Either way top mount would be cool and go with the hackness of going 12s for 2k
