She had wrapped herself in that blanket when they were together. It probably still smelled like her. But that’s a lot for script writer to detail for a screenplay.

Appleholic1, I felt bad for both of them. Her mother knew exactly what it was like to be in Allie's shoes. She was probably forced to marry for status. You can tell, as she and the man exchange gazes, that their feelings for each other were strong. Allie's mother wanted to choose him; she just couldn't. Society said no. Those were the rules back then. If you broke them you were ridiculed.
