I'm a little nitpicky on this one, mostly out of personal preference. And I now have an even greater appreciation for the strengths of the R6 😅 That said, the R7 is solid for the price and really useful to get some extra reach for birds. If you have the right lenses, it's a better long form video camera in some ways over the R6 as well. I will be very curious to see what the R7ii looks like whenever it is released...

I finally pulled the trigger to buy the RF 24-105 F4L, thanks to your videos, Dan! Now looking for a telephoto lens and I'll definitely consider the ones mentioned in this video!

Nice! Haha I just had to give my 24-105 some love on a freelance shoot... I've been neglecting it recently with all of this 100-400 shooting 😂

Great video! Loved the jumping camera angles when you were listing features.
Been getting into photographing birds too! I’ve never been a bird watcher but I really got into shooting detail shots of them during a trip to Brazil last month.
I agree about the grips. I do wish canon would make more grips for their other cameras like the RP.

Thanks! Haha don't get used to too many angles as I send this one back 🥲 And same here, that's why the 100-400 is interesting to me, a really affordable way to try. That sounds like an awesome trip though, I'm sure there's some cool species.
For the RP and R8 I'd love the option of a small grip, not quite sure how they would do it. Maybe more of an internal battery bank type thing that's rechargeable by usbc.

Great camera for me as an APSC user and I agree the battery grip should have been a feature and that it’s not really a true successor to the 7D line. Eye focus for me is amazing and I’m tempted to pair it with an R3. Adapting EF glass works wonders too!

Hopefully the next one can take the grip 🤞 I'm hoping this Sigma 28 is my last EF glass at this point, but agreed! Everything I've adapted over the years to the RP, R6, R8 and R7 all have worked really well.

@@DanYosua I think for me, I’d want unicorn or Z equipped lenses, i.e new innovations

    • @DanYosua

I'm hopeful that long-term they'll keep coming with some of that innovation. The 28-70, 24-105 f2.8, 200-800, 85 DS... all cool standouts so far imo... but it would be nice if they could bring some of that to designs that fall in the $1000-$1500 range as well.

Speaking of reach, I had the RF 70-200 f/4 here and compared it to my EF 70-200 f/4 (thought size and weight would be an upgrade, weight wise + adapter it wasn‘t really, and internal zoom is still a thing for me I recognized…), the thing why I finally sent it back after a few days is the fact, that even when focussing on infinity, the reach long end is rather at 167 mm compared to my EF lens. What is the size good for, if the zoom range is cut?
    Great lens though.

Ahh, that's a bummer, and sounds like a pretty big copy issue 😬 Hopefully you were able to get a full refund
