Tarikh Episode 53
In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil narrates the story of Battle of Assay.The war was fought between British East India Company and the Maratha. It was one of the major battle of the 2nd Anglo-Maratha War. On 23rd September 1803, An outnumbered British Force under Major General Arthur Wellesley defeated a combined Maratha army of Daulat Rao Scindia and the Raja Bhonsle of Berar near Assaye in western India. This was Wellesley’s first major victory and overnight it made him famous across the British world. Later he went on to lead the British force against Napoleon in the battle of Waterloo. But he stated that Battle of Assay was his greatest victory ever. Wesley later became the Duke of Wellington and went on to become the Prime Minister of England. Surat looted - Yes. Surat was ruled by mughals. No civilian looted by maratha .
Only wealthy merchants who are helping mughals are looted. Shaistekhan was one of the reason behind that.
In Bengal yes ! Hindus were also killed by marathas who were part /soldiers of mughals or nawabs or any other ruler. Temple destroyed by pindaris . After this returned all looted things.
Rajputs were also killed who were part of mughal army. Rajputs were not united that time just like marathas . After Chatrapati shivaji maharaj maratha unites . (Maratha army includes All caste as well as Muslims).

My mother is from Assaye gaon, there are many historical sites like adminstrative building built by britishers, graveyard of soldiers are present there in very poor condition which has been kept neglected by the government.
Till this day many british people visit this village to pay homage to their ancestors who died in this battle.
It is very depressing to see that people from outside know the significance of site but the people of our own don't care about it.
It's graveyard of britishers right? as you said, so why shall we care.

No battle can be explained without maps. Since I am familiar with the details I had no problem in visualising. Late Richard Holmes has explained this battle very beautifully and on horseback partly like Wellington.
Real reason of defeats in last 300 years is the decadent 18th century culture, and India is again regressing towards it, after partial enlightenment in 19th century. Accidents of birth & association still determines ones station in life. Only general worth mentioning was Balaji Bazirao, but due to casteism, his achievements are not celebtated
I'd beg to differ. Jawaharlal Nehru and Baji Rao belonged to the same caste. If Baji Rao's accomplishments are not celebrated due to him being a Brahmin, how come Nehru's achievements are celebrated? Also, Baji Rao is not the only great general produced in the last 300 years, there's also Shivaji, Sambhaji, Balaji Vishwanath, Madhavrao, Kanhoji Angre, Ranjit Singh, Yashwanthrao Holkar, Nana Phadnavis, Mahadji Shinde, Ramchandra Amatya, Haripant Phadke, Hamibrao Mohite, Sam Manekshaw, J. F. R. Jacob, Jagjit Singh Aurora and Ved Prakash Malik. This is not even an exhaustive list, just some names off the top of my head. Please read some history before making such ignorant claims.

History teaches us that, it was our internal differences that allowed invaders, be it Mughals or British, to infiltrate and eventually rule our country.
Every princely state of Bharat was constantly on war with the other to expand their kingdom territory. They were divided and outsiders used that divide to rule, and later when our freedom fighters started to unite the nation, they applied the divide & rule policy.
That same divide & rule policy is used by current political party in power.
Sadly, they want to rule, not serve.
In a democratic country, the political party that wins elections is supposed to Serve the people by administering the nation with efficiency and work towards uplifting the quality of life by bringing in right kind of policies that are beneficial to the public at large.
But unfortunately, our political parties misunderstand it as an opportunity to Rule the nation.
Let's learn from mistakes in History and stay United to display the strength of our Votes, and make these politicians realise that they aren't Rulers, but in actuality they are Public Servants. 🙏

People forget, that's it's not the British who won the wars but the Disciplined soliders. Indian soliders were fighting from both the sides.
The difference was of leadership. Indian soliders can win any battle in the world and they have in past in all the major countries.
