I have this amp and literally, it is SUPER versatile. I have a Les Paul, and it sounds killer with it. For a good Clean tone for Jazz, Country, etc, I set it to the following (with the pickup position set to mid and all knobs set to max): Gain 1: 4 Gain 2: 0 Treble: 5 Contour: 8 Bass: 5 Volume: 10 Reverb: 4 For Metal, I max everything except for Volume and Reverb. I will go to my bridge pickup for this setting. Reverb tends to add clarity in the same way that a presence knob would. When in doubt, the amp is wonderful with every knob set to 5. I never set my guitar to neck pickup only, because it makes it sound muddy. My pickup selections are the exact same for my BC Rich MG5T.
Blast from the past! First decent amp after a horrific 15 quid effort before it! Remember this being pretty good, spent serious time with it, practice practice practice! Served me well, remember being blown away by reverb! Back in 1997!
I have one. Bass is a little weak so I took the back off and cut 1.125 inches off the top of the back where it meets the amp plate. The cabinet is too small to not be ported. Sounds better now. Nice demo.
Practice amp? I have the exact same version, marshall mg15cdr and it worked very well for a small live gig for about 150 people. It got mic'ed up though. And i'm going to but the new Marshall mg50cfx soon, but i'll keep my old amp, just because it's really good.

great guitar players like you always make shit shine and smell like roses.
Hi, I've used alot of amps from practice amps like this one to 4x12s connected to a Mesa, Randall, etc. and the best way to get a good metal tone out of this amp is to set the treble low, like anywhere before 12 o'clock. but also depends on you guitar's pickups. setting the treble low on this amp will give you a more wider sound and not too harsh.
what were your settings for your first distortion tone cos anything overdrive stuff i try to get out of this amp sounds like a whales arse exploding and it seems to be just this amp :(
Dear Ben... I believe your ability and much evolved knowledge of music in general would warrant a more sophisticated pracitce amp ie. a Marshall 50th anniversary one watt series perhaps...? however, It is your preference, and only a observation.btw... As outstanding of a guitarist that you are...your improved feel factor in your playing abilities has given you expedential dynamics that have enhance your mojo 1000% CHEERS....! Ben : )
Awesome review , was wondering if you could get a zakk wylde tone out of this amp. im considering this between a mg15fdx, hoping u could give me some advice. Im currently using a NuX amp 15watt any idea which is better , im thinking of selling it away to fund for my marshall.
newgeek studio's The old blink sound was Marshall + Mesa Triple Rect. Green Day is based on a modded JCM800. So yes, you can get close I think, considering the proportions of course. But look at the new CF line.
It seem this amp sounds best for metal, or this guitar have very high output pups ? somehow doesnt sound right for blues, but for shreding and metal amp sound really good... Steve Vai said; you have to develop what your potential is and you are clearly hard rock/metal player and here you realy shine, so why to play blues at all if its not in your nature :)
Best small amp ever imo, amazing Marshall sound.

I have the Park G15R CD which is pretty similar, but I believe it's just the older version of this actually...
I wish the bigger version of this series sounded as good as this little gem
The very end clip is most impressive. THe clean channel on full whack sound pretty darn good i must say.

A great raw review without any fancy stuff!

Is this good for that Green Day, Blink-182 sound?
newgeek studio's The old blink sound was Marshall + Mesa Triple Rect.
