    Most people are probably aware that this kit was not modeled after an actual race car -- it's fictional. Typically, when the model companies made fictional models, they would use the names of staff members on the decal sheets. Such is the case with Lowell Sidlow, the "driver" of this car. Mr. Sidlow was a graphic artist for MPC/Fundimensions in the early 1970s. in 1974, Mr. Sidlow responded to a letter I'd written to MPC (I forget why I wrote). He followed up by sending me some MPC kits (I remember they included a '70 Barracuda, '71 GTO Street Funny and '71 GTX -- I still have the GTX and parts of the 'cuda) and we continued writing back and forth for several years. He was inspirational in my own choice of graphic art as a career. Our correspondence lapsed for decades but in the past few years I attempted to reconnect and we wrote back and forth for a little while and I had him autograph an original-issue box for this kit. I've not heard from him for some time now and I don't know his current status except that he would be about 80 years old. He spent most of his life as a resident of Michigan.

    I've got several of these kits. I hope that Round 2 will release the Trickle Mustang and the Chevelle that were part of this series.

    Awesome video. I had that kit back in the 80’s and was able to obtain a newer one a few years ago. Haven’t built it yet but will be sometime in the near future. I have probably 200 nascar and racing type kits and probably about the same amount of truck/semi kits. So definitely gonna be busy for a while. Lol. Keep up the great work!!!

    With those headers you could cook a chicken in the exhaust box, so weird, in the directions it says to put exhaust in before the body is mounted, sure is the way I would do it. It is a cool kit tho. Nice job. 👍

    Another golden feather..!
    Loves your great inspiring intro Doug.. it always inspires me for the next model project.. and so sad that I am living far away from you...
    Pontiac GTO.. is my ever dream car,as I was so addicted to it as I was exploring those card through Popular Mechanics in 70s... And this model kit is so great, and you completed it in an awesome way.. ! Hats off...
    And may ask you one thing..? Will you tell me that why most of these model kits are scaled in 1:25 th than 1:24 th usual in diecast model cars..?

    • @RightOnReplicas
      @RightOnReplicas  3 роки тому +1

      RK, That's a great question. I don't know if the real reason was exposed but the original plastic scale kits were derived from the early metal diecast kits that were scaled in 1:25. AMT SMP etc., just stuck with that but, Monogram began producing kits in 1:24. Maybe they want a little larger model to differentiate from the others. I have no idea why diecast cars are now 1:24 and more recently 1:18. There's a similar disparity with military models that mostly began as 1:32 scale kits but the standard today is 1:35 scale. Go figure! Thanks for watching! -Doug

      And I used to dream all car model kits with a figure.. isn't be great..

    • @RightOnReplicas
      @RightOnReplicas  3 роки тому +1

      RK, I agree. All military kits used to come with figures and a few race car drivers but not the family cars. You can buy aftermarket figures easily now however! -Doug

    I bought this model and seems that the fender wells don't line up with front and back wheels. Is it a flaw or error. Terrible if I slide the body to align the fronti it makes the back tires off smacked in to the body and vice versa

    My home track still run old musclecars, Chevelle's, T-Birds, Mustangs, Darts....and I don't know about anywhere else, but we all had sponsors, anyone that paid to have their name or business name on the car is a sponsor. Videos are cool, very informative about the kits, but some of the questions that your producer ask are cool, but the whole knocking on the window thing, is kinda lame.....reminds me of Pee Wee's Playhouse.
